This team did underachieve - we really should have beat Iowa and definitely could have beat OU and Baylor each, but it's still a Top 10 season in any living Cyclone fan's memory.  Any sane ISU fan can accept these years if we can get a real run at something significant (a conference title) once a decade or so.

Last week left a bad taste in people's mouths, as we got dominated in the 4th quarter by a rival, and Campbell has been really bad in rivalry games (1-7) at ISU.

But keeping him extended is big for our program.  He's recruiting very well, and this helps maintain that.  I'm optimistic he'll finally figure out Iowa and start beating KSU with more regularity.  If each of those series could settle into a "home team wins" type of series, I'd be perfectly content.

I get where you're coming from man, but I think there's a shot you're conflating Disappointment with Underachieving. And you yourself said it's a top 10 season in any living Cyclone fan's memory. I think the bad taste in your mouth is still coloring your perspective. You lost two of the best offensive players you've had in the last decade, you lost both of them after last season, and you're not a program (at least yet) that can simply reload with that kind of talent year after year. I don't think it's unfair to say you lost those players and as a result lost 1 more game overall as a realistic outcome before the season started.

If OU and Baylor hadn't been such heartrendingly winnable games, would you be calling the season a disappointment? Or is it just because you were so close on so many occasions to so much better that makes it more agonizing?

What's being built next to McIntyre's off of Bevis between 19th & 20th?

I don't have any new information, but like 2 or so years ago that property was sold and was supposed to become another outpost for Beer Market Co. I'm assuming they finally got their financing in order and started renovations. But that's old news, it could have been in turnaround and sold to someone else. This is where you miss Swamplot.

I like Campbell, i'm ready for him to stop shitting the bed vs. Iowa.

8-5 is underachieving with the team he had last year and this. Expectations were not met but who the hell else could they get, so lock him up and hope that he gives you 1 good run every 5 years.

Underachieving based on...what exactly? They lost David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler with literally no one even close to replacing their athleticism. And as a result they lost 1 more game overall. I think they had a pretty good fucking year considering they basically left at least 3 more wins on the table.

Waiting for the leaking of a shitty sideways-filmed video of someone who might be Herman hollering out for Beck while staggering through a hotel lobby supported by two buddies.

Dude. Don't be fucking absurd. We all know it would be Mehringer, or at the very least Wareheim, not fucking Tim Beck.

    Buncha IG stalkers.

Figured errrbody was too busy sliding DMs to South Austin's mom's IG account.

Losers slide into DMs. Winners just slide right into South Austin's mom. So yeah, you probably got that part right.

  6. The kid hasn't been cured of being a flake, that's for sure.

But one thing IS certain, and at this point I think it's pretty undeniable just how much of a cancer Mehringer was to this program, growing unchecked under Herman's nose, that a player like Shepherd would even consider returning simply because of his removal. Or maybe it was Orlando or Fedora, or Meekins that Shepherd wanted to murder.

Just kidding, it was fucking mehringer. And if he was that fucking bad (we've known for years) then his hiring and retained employment over 3 years is inexcusable and fucking pathetic. But good news, we'll bring in Chris Ash, a guy who's so perceptive he also hired Mehringer and got along with him. Our defense and program culture will be in great hands.

Wouldn't care if he is a prick or not as long as he was a leader and a coach that got his players to WIN.

As for the "technocrat" where was the "tech" ?...there was zero innovation, progressively less actually each season.

There was very little attention to detail so I don't get this label. Could be he is just an arrogant prick, who happened into some teams that had good players and some good assistants.

Don't actually use your eyes to evaluate what happened on the field, sir. All you need to know is that Herman has a giant binder of statistics and it's very, very technical. You couldn't even possibly understand it, like turtling against Iowa State.

Name that I haven't seen yet: Would Norvell take an OC gig or is he going to seek a P5 HC spot this year?

If you haven't seen it yet it's because you're not paying attention. Norvell isn't leaving a HC position, regardless of where, to be a coordinator. Especially since he's been linked to the HC positions as a person of interest by both Florida State and Ole' Miss. That's something you might get a DII or DIII coach to do, but probably not a guy who just went fucking 11-1 and Memphis, dude.

  9. Probably because they're going to give him enough rope to hang himself with, and in Herman's case it will be David Carradine style. Herman's a narcissistic prick, but he's also done quite a few things good at Texas (recruiting, evaluation, S&C). Firing him after 3 seasons, 1 year after a Sugar Bowl victory is a bad look, and no one's going to do that. So what's the next best thing? You make your POS head coach sink or swim, literally. Either he'll figure out his flaws and fix it, or he'll continue to self destruct in cataclysmic fashion, make the decision to fire him easy, and hopefully CDC spends the next fall vetting replacements in time for the opening of the SEZ, which may or may not come with a shiny new coach that has been properly researched and vetted, and a inheriting a talented roster.

Or Herman shoots the moon and we open the SEZ coming off a playoff appearance in 2020.

Jesus, look at Ash and that big, beautiful neanderthal fucking dome.

I think I've figured out Herman's hiring pattern. He only hires cavemen looking motherfuckers or white privilege roosters to coach. Orlando, Wareheim, Ash, Mehringer...3 giant meatheads and a skinny little dipshit. Someone get Frank Beamer's goiter on the line, Herman will probably hire it as a recruiting analyst.

Edited to add:  But seriously, that was how I read that small snippet that was posted.  Have no idea the full context of Nahlin's other thoughts.  Was just responding to that post, which seemed to offer some support for Ash's ability to teach as a DC, regardless of the conference.

Yeah, he's not on board with Ash. Additionally, he's also taken more than his fair share of shots at Herman recently, and has stated he no longer thinks Herman is the guy who can get things done at Texas.

EDIT: Later in Nahlin's chat he literally said that Herman should look to the NFL for a DC. I'd say that's a ringing endorsement for Not Ash.

It's pretty clear (at least to me) that he's being sarcastic to the numerous individuals at IT who, like many posters here, are complaining that being a DC in the B1G is much easier than being one in the Big 12.  He's joking that teaching tackling must be easier in the B1G, too, because Ash did a good job coaching that.

Yeah, I think you're the only person that is clear for, because that's not the vibe I'm getting at all. Especially when you consider a couple sentences prior he flat out said Texas should slow down this process (which is doing the opposite in favor of Ash) AND to gauge how everyone would react to the hire, as well as saying he isn't a locker room fit. If your idea of getting subscribers excited is to say Texas is moving too fast in the direction of someone who is a poor locker room fit, imploring them to seek feedback on an Ash hire to interested parties before moving forward, AND reminding everyone that defending is easier in the Big 10 as opposed to the Big 12 is your idea of a rallying cry, well, agree to disagree.

That or you've gone full Futureman today and I'm just missing the joke by a few feet.

Friend of mine from the Boston Herald said that Steve Belichek wants to be the college version of his dad and doesn't want to live in his shadow in the NFL. His wife is from Round Rock and he and Tom Herman have been friends for 10+ years. Would be a logical starting point as he builds more college connections and a reputation. Only concern is ability to recruit.

Great. Lets hire the one guy who has (arguably) worse fucking hair than mehringer.

Sure but make him say no and make lsu pay. They likely will since it would be a "win" vs Texas but force them to pay up across the board. These are the types of hires that Herman needs to go after in proving he's truly maturing as a HC. Go hire some confident, proven bad asses that will force you to be a leader of men vs a charlatan.

I don't disagree with your post, but the problem with Wilson is he's a RB coach. We a have one of those already, and we're not making room for another. Now, would a creative coach find a way to maximize a recruiting sorcerer like Wilson? Probably. But that isn't Herman.

pretty sure thats incorrect.  with him being fired, I was almost positive his contract had some wording that 1, he had to keep trying to get hired as a HC.  and 2.  if he took another HC job Texas would still pay his contracted $5mil  minus HALF his salary at the new school.

i.e.  If he was making $2.5M at USF, Texas paid him $3.75M, and USF paid him $2.5M.  It encouraged him to get a new job and still saved Texas money.  Also, I am pretty sure it had wording that wouldnt have allowed him to sign for only $200k his first 2 years with a school while having a massive $2.5M+ backend deal.

Lots of "pretty sure" going on in your post. And you'd be wrong.

Strong's base salary paid him 1 million a year while he was still finishing out his contract at Texas, and Texas paid the rest. And shockingly, yes, his total 9.8 million contract (of which there is speculation it was even larger and paid for by the USF booster club, an amount which hasn't been released) was back-loaded. After the Texas money ran out, his base from USF jumped from 1 million to 2.5 million immediately, with other incremental raises thereafter.

Can someone explain why everybody thinks UT pulling Joe Brady from LSU to be the OC is gonna be hard when Joe Brady is only a non-playcalling Passing-game coordinator/WR coach for LSU?

Because everyone paying even half attention knows that he is a play-calling offensive coordinator without the official title, which I’m guessing LSU will offer him the title and cash that goes with it to keep him in short order.

  17. Listen. I need this to be Mehringer. There’s not a single more delicious scenario than hermans chosen son, Mehringer, shit talking him to players on behalf of Chris ash, the failed POS who he worked for previously, who Herman recommended to Ash, that Herman himself brought in to advise on the team.

is there a more obvious demonstration that Herman can’t see shit and is completely clueless? His program literally submarined by his best friends who suck at football and have no compunction shitting all over Herman. Fucking. Wonderful.

  18. It sounds like Mehringer. Which is actually amazing, because if there’s one dude who should be loyal and always support herman it’s that worthless piece of shit.

the irony is he probably learned that behavior from his POS mentor.
