I see the problem. One forearm is twice the size of the other. Never gonna shine with that kind of inconsistency.
The big forearm is the arm he hold his fork with.

Semolina flour is what many places use. Honestly, I started using parchment paper and it’s a game changer. No more sticking period. Yes it gets a little dark at 500 deg but just throw it away.
This is the trick. I use parchment on the Green Egg pizza stone and have never had an issue. Pizza never sticks and paper never burns.

There are rumors that the Patriots don't like Maye and don't rate him as a first rounder. If the Commies take Daniels then the Pats might trade out of the spot rather than roll the dice on one of the others.
and as a former fourth round pick.
Reverse Katfid....they are scarred from the Mac Jones debacle.

Well BYU is looking like a contender for last.
Maybe if their coach wasn't a dipshit, the team would play better. I have been following softball for 30 years and have never had this much trouble trying to keep up with line up changes, and substitutions.
As far as the towel goes, the gorilla towel is allowed, but my guess is she had added extra rosin or pine tar to the rag. The coach had a hard time wiping his hand after taking the towel from her.

That was a lazy coaching effort by White, and a lazy effort by the team.

Some dude posted a link to the weight differences from last year to this year over at OTF:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Bxb5zfOTGbuXkUCVIcAzAWYuA6fItA9O6VTsX9tutbU/edit?pli=1#gid=0
We have 4 guys at 360 or over. That's ridiculous. Sydir Mitchell is not a "good" 372. Sweat could have played with less weight too, so whatever.
Red at 240 is disturbing. They are going to have to change the name of Redcat to Redfat.
Red is going to look like Gary Coleman out there. We need to immediately stop all NIL deals with Cane's.

Sydir suffers from endurance issues, and was supposedly using last year to get into shape....He gained 35 lbs????? His getting in shape routine must be similar to mine.

So last night they showed Baylea Brandon and Alyssa Popelka in the OF watching the game. Love having some players we wanted to stick around still showing support!
Though I thought Popelka was going to UW - she isn't on the roster. UW announced her signing on July 31. Wonder what happened there...
Popelka's mother is battling cancer. Wouldn't be shocked to hear she stayed home to be close to her.

She is a cutie
They should get her a NIL deal now and lock her in for the class of 2040. What is Coach White waiting on?

Maybe Arch and the Manning's are going to come out with their own video game, based on the Manning passing academy. Maybe Arch doesn't want to be a back up video game QB. Maybe I don't give a shit and will buy the game anyways.

Stewie crushed that
She has crazy natural power. Seems to hit the ball hard every AB. I said before she hit the longest HR I have seen in Clearwater, and that shot last night was an absolute bomb. Scary to think of where she will hit them in a couple of years.

Gonna guess Kavan is starting. This is their best start in a long time. Monday evening softball is nice 😎
Agreed on the hot start....
Kavan has been better than I had hoped, and has the looks of a legitimate staff ace
Atwood has elevated her game to an entirely different level and should be in all conversations for POY this season
Stewart has adjusted quickly to collegiate pitching and seems to hit the ball hard every AB
Goode is starting to look like the player she was last year and now White has to find a way to get them all in the line up.
Mitchell has proven to be a solid portal pick up, but she may be the odd man out by the time this line up is settled
Scott's speed is a must in the order, but she makes us worse where ever she plays defensively
Henry has been really solid at the top of the order and can run, slap, and hit for power
Dayton is back to looking like she did her first season on the Horns, and is a spark plug on offense
This roster has so much positional versatility along with speed and power. It must make Coach White feel like he has 35 girls on the roster.

And down goes Oklahoma and their 71 game winning streak, losing to Louisiana 7-5 this afternoon.
OU was an absolute shit show in this game. Multiple errors in multiple innings, including the 8th.

Well Bella is apparently really bad at it
Bella is the lead off hitter and known for being aggressive on the bases. She is trying to get a jump, so that she can take the extra base on a hit....however, I agree she has got to be better.

Leaving early in softball is like holding in football. It could be called on almost every play.

They are 14-4 but that schedule is garbage. Split with Tech and a W over ASU
Mullins has a 0.94 ERA.
Mullins is a good pitcher and will give Texas some problems, but this team is deeper and better than past Texas teams. I think we see the Horns roll tonight, depending on how much run Coach White gives the bench.

Another thing about the Stanford game last night involving a lack of focus or a brain fart is when Atwood was batting with runners in scoring position and 2 strikes. She was called out for not being in the batter’s box by the time the pitch clock reached the 10 second mark. Although we have no idea what would have happened if she had not made such an egregious mistake, it is a mental error that should never happen!!! 🤘
I wouldn't put too much stock in that one. The player clock is new, it is early in the year, the clock start time was very inconsistent all night. Alyssa Washington steps out of the box and removes her gloves and meanders around and yet never got a call against her. Atwood backed out of the box, took a sign from the coach and got back in and was charged with the 10 second violation. It was a ticky tack call that you won't see more than 10 times all year, if you watch a lot of softball.

great thoughts. I do like that we are rotating Stewart at catcher, if for no other reason to take some wear off Atwood. It's tough . . . she's got a great arm and can hose runners with it, so she's not a bad defensive catcher at all. She's just not a great blocker IMO. Her bat is something else though - she's a beast.
I did notice that Mitchell's footwork at 1B needs work. I actually like her better at third as well, which is weird because it's a much harder position than 1st. One note on Mitchell and Stewart: they are both surprisingly fast for big hitters. Stewie in particular is a big chick, but she can scoot. What an athlete.
Mia's a tough one. She has the athleticism to play 3B, but she Roger Dorn's too many instead of squaring up and working through the ball. I would also consider some rotation at RF with Maloney (Henry, Mia, Hunter?). Ashton gets on base, which is great for the 9 hole, but her short game/slapping tends to get shut down against good pitching/defenses. Mike has some tough choices to make, but it's great to have so much talent to make the choices tough.
Stewart has the strongest arm on the team. I too am a catchers dad. Daughter played D1 softball as a 4 year starter behind the plate. Blocking pitches is a mindset and sometimes kids get a little lazy back there. Atwood is also 6’ tall and that can be a challenge as well. I would like to see Atwood get more time at first and keep her body fresh so her bat stays in the lineup. Feels like we actually have a team that can win a game or two against OU.

Just crazy that we lost a game on a dropped play at the plate, when Henry threw an absolute strike to Atwood. It was a comedy of errors all night on defense, and yet they were still in the game. Gotta find a way to keep Scott in the line up, but off of 3B. Every play is an adventure with her

She’s listed as an infielder. Can she play it decently? Cause she’s put together and fucking rakes. It’s gonna be hard to keep her out of the lineup.
She can play, but we have no spot for her. Mitchell and Goode are looking for an IF spot also.

One thing some of these Big 12 schools have a bad habit of doing is cupcake-y non-conf schedules and then they get destroyed in the Big 12 and miss the tournament
Tech has been infamous for doing this - they'll roll into conference play at something like 26-3 or 28-1 and then finish 5-13 and miss the tournament. 31-22 last year but 5-13 in the Big 12. You don't typically see Tech, KU, ISU, UH at the big tournaments in Clearwater or Mary Nutter.
Yes, the Big 12 will get a little easier without Texas/OU, but Utah is good and Arizona/ASU have access to that good Cali talent.
Very true, but both of those tournaments are invitationals and I’m not sure those teams have the draw to get invited.

Texas Softball 2024 - Farewell to the Big 12 (and back to OKC?)
in UT Sports
Posted
Kenny is from the Tim Walton school of coaching. He would rather hope for a 3 run HR than play small ball and manufacture runs. Texas can compete with anyone in the country, but I am a bit concerned that Stewart has cooled off considerably and Reese has come back to earth a bit as well. We are going to need TK and Mac to show up big time this weekend.
