  1. it would be one thing if we began with an attacking style and switched it off, but we don't. we always set up in a defensive formation (even when we have attacking players throughout the team sheet), are content to sit back and concede possession and hit teams on the counter. when this is successful it compounds the problem because instead of pushing for another goal we sit deeper and more compact while other teams commit more players to the attack. this puts more pressure on mediocre defenders who make more mistakes and are even less able to play the ball through accurately to our attacking players waiting to counter. i lost count of the number of times yesterday that dier, sanchez, reguilon or aurier dealt with the initial threat but gave possession right back in dangerous areas because there was no outlet between the back line and the forwards. this is mou being mou. it was the concern when he was announced as manager and will continue to be as long as he is manager because he has never shown a willingness to adapt to the modern game. if/when he starts to ratchet up his public criticisms of the players not executing his system vs. changing tactics you'll have a full bingo card and it'll be time for us to start waiting around for levy to make a change...which will also take too long. there is too much quality in this squad overall now to blame the player quality for the lack of results.
  2. that was sort of my point. playing a defensive/counter strategy in today's premier league is playing to not lose.
  3. because we play to not lose.
  4. not sure why y'all even bother to watch the first 75 minutes of these matches.
  5. so, bust?
  6. mou needs to take him off at half and leave him on the bench for the rest of the season.
  7. narrator: “they couldn’t.”
  8. xhaka still a hack.
  9. he scores when he wants.
  10. he assists when he wants.
  11. well the good news here is that you aren't going to see a sanchez and tanganga pairing in front of joe hart for anything of consequence from here on out unless something goes terribly wrong.
  12. harry's not missing the NLD.
  13. lots of discussion about arsenal's issues in the epl thread too. it's the north london derby so anything can happen, but as long as they don't decide that a headbutt doesn't warrant a straight red i think we'll be alright. i am guessing mou will heavily rotate the squad for the euro match and we'll be pretty fresh as well. they're gonna have to hit some balls over the top to auba or laca and hope that dier or rodon/sanchez switch off and they can get in behind, otherwise i think it'll be tough for them to navigate through sissoko and hjobjerg with their midfield. and don't forget, they still have david luiz...
  14. as long as wilshere doesn't come out of his forced hiatus even though he could totally, like really, still play dominant top flight football retirement, we should be good.
  15. bob’s gone. he stole his car.
  16. where are you from anyway man?
  17. this is the harshest penalty in sports - i'd prefer it if the standard for what requires a direct and public apology to fans, teammates, coaches and club be a bit higher than it is at times, such as in the case of Pepe's headbutt yesterday.
  18. this feels like a succinct version of what you've been trying to say. sounds like arteta needs to work on the mental aptitude of the squad (when to not headbutt and when to embellish reactions so clearcut reds and yellows are called in your favor) as much as he needs to fix the midfield.
  19. this wasn't red. but to be fair, mike dean likely had tears of laughter obscuring his vision and there was no VAR to help him out. "suckle little man. suckle!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EYUtdSW42Q
