I’ve heard he was blind-sided on this, and publicly he seems to be acting like he was. It’s pretty humiliating for him, but I’m curious if Abbott did it for the people who need it medically, or because next year is an election year.

I don’t partake of the devil’s lettuce or anything relating to it, but have friends and family that I believe have benefitted from it, and so I’m hoping we actually follow Oklahoma’s lead on it, and not let the Dan Patricks of the world shut it down completely.

I think it was a pure power play and pretty brilliant. Goeber burned a lot of political capital getting that POS bill across the finish line and made a complete fool of himself at that press conference

Abbott waited until the last minute and plunged the knife right in with the veto

The comments are gold. I wonder what happens to all that LEGAL product those headline grabbing police seized in the raids over the last couple of weeks.

My understanding was the DEA was involved, so the feds will probably destroy it but I think they still have a policy of not prosecuting

Because he’s a friend to Israel. You think any President, much less Trump, is going to listen to an ambassador on military matters?  That’s laughable.

    Look up Steve Witkoff

I am. Thought you might’ve been speaking of bombing Iran specifically. I think most people in the country favor having a thriving Israel and the US being a staunch supporter of Israel.  I don’t believe actions are taken based on a fringe Christian belief that Israel must be protected for biblical purposes. And it is fringe. Guys like Huckabee are totally marginalized nationally.  This fringe element didn’t factor into decision makers’ thought process with respect to Iran yesterday whatsoever.

Look into who wrote project 2025

ETA: Well, maybe we didn't use it there.  Could have sworn we did.

I’m pretty sure the forces ready to obliterate OBL were ordered to stand down prior to his escape. Draw your own conclusions on why

Haven't read the paper, but I agree with the overall intent (as expressed in titles, etc). Hell, I'd be hard pressed to agree with a paper that says the original intent was NOT for white men only.

Of course, I haven’t read the paper either. From what I read, it doesn’t sound like he is drawing the conclusion that original intent was for white men only. That’s pretty much a given. My understanding is that he was using that as the premise to argue that our current and future policies should necessarily be structured to follow that original intent. In my opinion that is morally reprehensible, and regardless of the internal consistency of the paper would not be worthy of any type of award, although they might even earn an A for it. Of course, all the other papers could’ve been absolute dog shit.

What if they are 100% accurate?

Well, since morality cannot be measured objectively, they could not be considered 100% “accurate“

I think it is theoretically possible to have a top paper that contains disgusting ideas. And that it perhaps should be awarded for its research or writing quality.

I categorically disagree if you are talking about a paper written in an academic setting whose basic premise and or conclusions are morally reprehensible

On the one hand, I think it is true that if it is really the best paper, it should be given the best grade/award.  On the other, a paper with a premise or thesis like that would have to be really outstanding, especially because it seems to go against the weight of scholarship.  It can't be "it has interesting, provocative ideas."

The other circumstances, a FedSoc Trump appointee perfesser and a repressive state like Florida, just take it to 11.

The professor should defend the grading rubric, absolutely.

Amusingly, Damsky's assertion or conclusion is the premise of CRT.

So you’re saying he’s not wrong he’s just and asshole?
