Yeah...remember when a SINGLE act of malfeasance -- lying under oath about a blowjob -- was enough to get a president impeached?

    Yeah...good times.  Good times.

The problem is the complete destruction of any and all of good norms of the office.  It took over two centuries to build up the office of the presidency (and it ended up overbuilt -- too much power in the executive, too much power ceded by Congress).  It takes no time at all to wreck it.  And that's where y'all think I'm "hysterical" and whatnot.  Sorry, but I've read enough history, and been an active part of the process as institutions/businesses/similar entities that have existed for decades fall apart in a matter of months.  This is EXACTLY how this shit happens.  It takes centuries to build a city.

It takes one firebombing to destroy it (sorry, Dresden -- you're just too good an example).  Building is hard.  Destroying is easy.  Trump is destroying the institution and the norms.  And the GOP is a gang of grinning accomplices.  We'll see how they enjoy the rubble, and what comes out of it.

Yeah I remember when he was acquitted along a straight party vote. If mueller has the goods this is different. If it’s whores and real estate it will be the same

eta Clinton should have never been impeached imo. He is the best president we have had since Kennedy if you can look past his philandering. It was pure politics. But if this winds up being about whores and real estate it will be sold as politics and trump will skate

He still won’t be pres come Jan 2021 unless HRC is on the ballot in 2020

  2. There is not going to be a jury trial Hugo. My posts aren’t about what I want to happen. They are what I think is likely given reality. If mueller presents evidence of payments to hookers and past shady business dealings, that is not going to get trump forcibly removed,  no matter what you, I, or anyone else thinks he deserves. That may well get an impeachment trial started if/when the Dems take the House, but it’s not going to get 67 votes in the senate to convict. Clinton’s votes straight along party lines in his trial. That’s what you’ll see here UNLESS mueller has solid evidence of trump conspiring with Russia. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think so

I've already said what I think will happen if mueller does have concrete evidence

Firing mueller is a whole other deal politically. I don’t see trump doing that and if he does I expect him to be successfully impeached

    I disagree.

Trump's brand promise is defeating and humiliating tribal enemies regardless of the cost, regardless of ethics, or anything else. Winning fights is his brand.  Midterm losses sufficient to lose the House in 2018 will wound and deflate the Trump coalition for that reason.

However, if the house impeaches and the Senate doesn't convict, Democratic enthusiasm collapses and the GOP is galvanized. If the Bill Clinton impeachment demonstrated anything, it's that impeachment must be a bipartisan process with broad bipartisan consensus. FWIW I think removing a president for the first time in our history is too serious to be undertaken on a one-party basis. But even if I didn't, it's just not smart politics in this situation.

Great post. If mueller has him dead to rights on Russia I imagine the senate and house leaders from both parties will get together and present a united front to trump and whomever is representing him at that point and lay it out for him. I can’t imagine he chooses to go through the humiliation of being the first. President forcibly removed from office but with him you never know

LOL.  Never say that about Trump.

Well that’s true. But if mueller has concrete evidence trump conspired with Russia I imagine the congressional leaders get briefed and the senate republicans go to trump and tell him if an impeachment trial is convened we will vote to convict, and he negotiates an exit strategy. But you’re right it is trump so who knows

Nancy Pelosi controls everything that goes on in that caucus.

There will be no impeachment from the Democratic side without her approval.

She will require Republicans to be on board.

If mueller has more than payments to whores and illegal real estate deals, we will have a resignation with pardons by the new pres similar to Nixon. If not you’ll see a shitshow impeachment trial with the senate failing to convict with voting along party lines. If the latter happens Trump declines to run or loses the nomination for 2020

People's reactions range from "call the national guard/won't someone think of the children" to "leave them alone, they were here first".  This even made the Today show last week.

How about a compromise? I'm assuming he accesses from multiple IP (home, work, phone) maybe just ban 1 or 2 of them. I'm sure his employer will thank you for increasing his productivity. Though if you ban his home IP I could see his wife leaving him from all his political talk and ranting.

    This post is gold

This sentence right here says everything wasn't fine. The stuff Mulvaney pulled the other day with the bankers was the garden variety corruption (albeit more explicit than normal).

Money has always equalled access - that isn't new.

This was your assertion - what has Trump done with regard to this? If you are really saying "the Clinton Foundation would have acted as pay-for-play" that is a textbook "but Hillary". If not, just clarify what he explicitly did because I don't see it.

OP didn’t ask for something trump has done that is good. He asked for something good about the trump presidency. Trump has been so open and blatant with the pay for play that the “garden variety corruption” will come under scrutiny as well. That is a good thing, if indeed you are not ok with business as usual

You skate right past the impact, as I knew you would.

NORMALIZING lying is the danger here.  He lies about -- literally -- EVERYTHING.  He creates a world in which lies are truth and truth is lies and there is no difference.  That is a most dangerous world.  Nevermind the gravity of the lies he's already told -- his big, beautiful tax plan that will make things nifty?  It's going to EXPLODE the deficit.  Nobody knows more about healthcare than him, and he's going to fix it, easy peasy?  We're fucked when it comes to healthcare.  He flat-out lied about fixing a goddamned thing.

He lies little.  He lies big.  He lies everywhere in between.

But Avenatti's lie (and it is a lie) bothers you MORE.

That's the fucking Trumpkin troll world you live in.  Fucking amazing.

You really are not going to know what to do with yourself when trump is gone and the whole country isn’t lying about everything all the time

and just to be clear, my contempt for your fatalism is not an endorsement of sheeit’s take or trump.
