  1. Yeah we were sitting just to the right of them and asked one of the bartenders what was up with those little dainty glasses and those little bottles next to them. I passed on partaking in any and just stuck with Pliny and about 5 other West Coast beers I couldn’t otherwise get here in Texas.

  2. Sunday. Actually passed on any beers during lunch at Old Fisherman’s Grotto in the Wharf since they didn’t have any beers I can’t get at home (man’s gotta have a code...). However just a tip for those flying out of SFO’s Terminal 2: Cat Corra’s Kitchen always has a rotating Fieldwork IPA on tap. Today’s was Destination Unknown which was quite tasty as I was waiting for this flight that I’m now on.

    Cheers all. Beer nerd out.

  3. Saturday. Lunch at Alvarado Street Brewing as we rolled into town. Love this brewery and brewpub so much.

You can likewise buy cans to take home...

If you’re down in Big Sur and looking to kill some time (as we were at one point waiting for parking at Pfeiffer Beach to free up), swing by the Big Sur Deli and Taphouse. You can buy single cans/bottles of various beers (including recent Alvarado releases) at the Deli and then grab a decent draft beer next door at the Taphouse. I had Almanac’s hazy DIPA. Last time there they had Pliny bottles to drink there and take home.

After hanging out in Big Sur for the day, we swung by Fieldworks’ open air tap yard for drinks. Love wearing a jacket in July in 60 degrees coolness and drinking their big ol sampler by the fire.

  4. Was in San Francisco and Monterey for the weekend. In addition to doing the fun touristy stuff like hiking around Land’s End, Golden Gate Bridge, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, Pfeiffer Beach, driving Big Sur, eating at Nepenthe and Fisherman’s Wharf, here’s how this beer nerd otherwise spent his weekend.

    Friday night:

    Remember to bring cash:

For all the incredible beers they sell, I’m not sure why they offer these. They smell quite nasty:

You can even buy cans to take home with you:

  5. I did the hot and fast cook recipe from the Weber Virtual Bullet website. Only in the smoker for a max of 45-50 minutes. Think that’s the main reason I ended up with well cooked meat (also my porn star name). While I pulled it to sear for 5 minutes right when it was probing as “medium” I think the 5 minutes of searing and 10 minutes rest gave it time to then move up to well done status. Still tasty at well done but not what I normally shoot for.

  6. Yup I was trying to strike a balance between my wife’s preference of, at most, medium to medium-well and my medium-rare to medium. I was aiming for a medium cooked meat and had probed right at that level but, as you can see, it overshot and ended up being well done instead. Still, as I said before and to refute some of you Uber BBQ dorks, it was still pretty tasty.

  7. I remember when it was a really big deal and appreciated to find Fireman’s 4 (as the only craft beer alternative) at the State Fair food pavilion during Texas-OU years ago. Having said that, I haven’t drunk one in many many years.

  8. Nothing ruined for me. My point is that a great deal of you seem to go out of the way looking for reasons to not like something as much as before. I don’t suffer from that problem and, thus, get more enjoyment from these things. That’s not to say there can be no dip in the quality of shows, I just don’t feel it’s applicable here. Now, back to your hot takes...

  9. it was said earlier in this thread...you people can ruin anything.  I love, Love, LOVE seeing/hearing comedians get together and talk the art of comedy as well as just shoot the shit and make each other laugh.  I'm enjoying this season although not every episode can/has to be great.  I also just now realized we haven't had any new episodes of Inside Comedy with David Steinberg in a while now and fear we won't get more.  Enjoy these kind of things while you can.

  10. Was in Fort Worth today so decided to try Heim. Three of us each ordered the 2 meat plate plus an order of the bacon burnt ends so we got to try everything expect their beef rib (wasn’t feeling the “average” $33 for it).

The bacon burnt ends, pork ribs, jalapeño and cheddar as well as pepper sausages were all quite tasty, the brisket was good though not outstanding, the green chili Mac and cheese was a tasty side, but the pulled pork and turkey were a disappointment.

Overall, not too bad...especially as we were able to walk right up and order.
