1. I have been a (paying) member on this site since who knows when. Never negged anyone but I have the itch to shoot my load all over the one equating my beloved Astros to Pete Rose. Can you clue me in?

2. The administration changed between #4 and #5.
Jeremy Foley was considered one of the best ADs in the country and made a ton of great hires across the board in athletics and is a major reason why UF has the streak of 30+ years finishing in the top 10 in the all-sports rankings, though it could be argued that he never made a good one for football. Spurrier was one of the last hires that Arnsparger made before returning to the NFL, and it's arguable that Meyer's hire was directed and made happen by then-president, Bernie Machen who had just come from Utah the year before.
Stricklin has been the AD since 2016 and he brought Mullen with him from Miss St. and of all of the hires, the only one that's been successful has been Nesty, our swimming coach.
He's also made two spectacularly bad coaching hires in women's basketball and soccer. Both who not only never won, but were fired over abuse accusations.

I agree that Stricklin has not been great (hard to follow Jeremy Foley.) But I think you forgot he hired Todd Golden. Who at this point looks to be a Billy Donovan starter kit.
3. FSU's got willing alums up to a point. They've only got so much to work with and they have to make choices the same as many schools in the mid-tier range of this stuff.
UF's base will provide help if there's hope. They're not idiots. They're also not in the upper tier at this point. If they hire someone they're excited about, that could change. UF has never been one of the crazies in the SEC when it comes to buying players before the NIL era. Meyer had people helping out, but back then, $500k could buy the top end of a great class. You want a top flight roster now? Barring a miracle or a Saban discount, you're going to need north of $12M and that isn't UF.
Miami has more than people think and Cristobal isn't totally dependent upon the original loudmouth supporting them. They're not upper tier on the alumni/collective side, but they're not middling. The thing Miami has that the other two do not is corporate NIL. Miami is a big city with a lot of brands that are willing to align with personalities. That helps put them into the higher realm of NIL, likely only lacking to the likes of Texas, Oregon, Ohio State and a few random programs each cycle.

The Gator NIL budget this year was 13-15 million. So don’t blame it on money…..

4. Saw Mays hit his 500th home run as a youngster just after the fam moved to Houston. Ironically moved to San Francisco 3 years later and watched the Giants on the reg from our house overlooking Candelstick (actually a Quonset hut) at Naval Station Hunters Point.

The Astros took and they have been my fav pro team since. Still liked the Giants and Mays though.

Always had the internal argument as to the greatest baseball player ever. Ruth beats Mays due to his pitching prowess but it’s close.

5. So one of my oldest nephews has shown some interest in Florida and will be making a campus visit sometime this spring. Gatorubet gatormarc locodos Lidig8r DallasGatr and any other Florida guys here, tell me a few things about the campus and it's culture. None of us have ever been to Gainesville and my brother is curious about the school, it's traditions and things to do in town.

One of the best decisions I ever made was going to Florida instead of UVA. (I was from the DC area.) Expansive, idyllic campus set in a small city that is defined by the university. Gainesville is pretty much the definition of a “college town.”

The school itself was much more rigorous academically than I expected. (I found out I was nowhere near as smart as I thought.) And you can get lost in the crowd if you want to. That said I became pretty tight with a few Profs.

Other than the setting I have always thought of Florida as very similar to UT. Plenty of everything to choose from and a 4-year experience that has helped define me.

2 fun Gator facts: Florida was an all-boys school until 1948. As opposed to FSU which was all-girls. And there are more Jewish students at UF than any school out side of Israel.
6. EVA>>>>>United

Been on that SFO-TPE flight twice this year and it blows away United. Great food, service and yes smoking hot, young, sweet FA’s.

My Asian Airline preferences in order:

1-Singapore (Only if you love size zero flight attendants that all look like matching Chinese dolls.)

2-EVA-See above

3-ANA-They seem to only hire hot, young, friendly Japanese girls for cabin crew

4-Korean-Good food, hot, thin FA’s

5-Japan-Great service

6-China Air

7-Cathay-Everything seems off.

(I only rated the airlines I can remember taking since Covid.)

7. My advice has been consistent. If you are a frequent flyer, pick one major airline and stay committed. It will pay off in miles and status (yes, it makes a difference.) Been AA since moving to DFW in the 90’s and I’ve been moving up their food chain ever since. CK for the last 5 years and while not nearly as good as flying private, it’s as close as the bus lines can get. Even my backup airlines are associated with AA. (Taking Qatar later today to Singapore and will get points and miles as if I was flying American.)

8. The long lines have more to do with eating at places that don’t take reservations. Just too many great eats to limit yourself to the fancy joints. (That and I’m on per diem vice expense report.)

2 places that I do highly recommend in Osaka (and no rez needed,) Critters Burger in Shinsaibashi. (Get the Wagu Burger.)

And Dublin Bay Irish Pub in Namba. Looks, feels and smells like a pub in the old country with not a lick of English to be had. But a great Irish/Japanese Whiskey selection at Lubbock prices. 1000 yen for any shot (7 bucks). That includes winners like Yamazaki 12 or Red Breast 12. Happy hour (5-8 I think) it’s 900 a shot. Nice and friendly owners and customers.

9. I walked some of the Singapore circuit today. They have started to close down parts of the streets.

Same, same. There a couple days ago and saw debris fencing in place near the rec club/Fairmont. More than 2 months out and they are getting things done! Love that city/state!
