  1. Anyone else watching Under the Queens Umbrella? Kind of a Korean House of the Dragon. I’m more than halfway thru the 16 one hour plus episodes and am fascinated. Just seems to get better and better. A must watch for those with a touch of the yellow fever.

Only problem I have with the show is that the actress playing the Queen has obviously had some work done. I mean I know the Koreans are big in the plastic surgery world but I don’t think much work was being done a few hundred years ago.

I probably should have clarified, but it’s the First Class Sakura JAL Lounge that I frequent. That said, I’ve been over to the peoples side of the lounge and I believe the food and drink menu was the same. Regardless, it’s a made to order menu delivered to your table. And the curry is outstanding! (Just insure you hit the boys room before the flight else you will destroy the airplane lav!)

  3. well first of all.  Its DEAD.  Like hardly much open restaurant wise.  Japan isn't open as of now so it feels pretty empty for one of the biggest airports in Asia.  Im in the KAL lounge so no help on restaurants.   Another 6 hours down to Ha Noi.   My buddy is in the other terminal because he is flying AA from DFW.   They will not let you go to the other terminal without a boarding pass.

I think KAL is in Terminal 1 at Narita so you might be right. (Last time I was thru there was 6 months or so ago.)

If you are going thru Narita on American and then continuing on to HAN on JAL you are in luck. That would be Terminal 2 and it’s hopping (at least it was 2 days ago.) I would not know about where to eat as I always go to the JAL lounge and it’s outstanding. I would recommend getting Suntory World Whiskey at the duty free in NRT though. (They have been selling it with a free Suntory glass the last couple of months as well.)

And as of a month or so ago Japan is pretty much open.

  4. be proud !

It took the Astros 61 years to get 5 games over .500 all-time. This seems like a lot, but take this in consideration, the Astros are the only team in the expansion era with a total record over .500. 13 other teams born 1961 and on all have records below .500

Thanks for that stat. I was just thinking that finally getting over .500 as a modern expansion team ain’t as bad as it seems.

Located inside the Hanoi Sheraton. It most certainly lived up to its rating with the best brunch I’ve ever had in Asia.
As a side note the hotel is located on Truc Bach
Lake (the lake John McCain was captured in.) They even have a memorial to McCain on the lake.

  6. Looks like this trip if finally going to happen after years of covid delays.  No restrictions or quarantines  other than showing vaccine card.   Visas for Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia secured.   And I have a life long friend joining me.  We went to CR a year ago and have very similar thoughts on travel.
Oct 6-21.  Ha Noi, Ha Long Bay, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap, and Bangkok.
I haven't been this excited about a trip in a long time.

No restrictions is an understatement. I was in Hanoi last week and the Vietnamese GAF on masks is not much different than Dallas. I’d say the PI is more slack but that would be it in Asia. Really surprised how many folks were maskless in the airport.

  7. Since getting called up to AAA Sugar Land on June 7th, infielder Enmanuel Valdez has slashed .311/.365/.600 with 9 HR and 29 RBI in 32 games. He's kinda come out of nowhere and gone from a relative nobody to a prospect with promise and will be Rule 5 eligible this winter so it will be interesting to see what the Astros do with him. Is he a potential trade piece or do the Astros see him as injury insurance in case one of Aledmys Diaz or Dubon gets injured? Regardless, his ascent is remarkable and imo a testament to the Astros developmental system.

Looks like he started coming on last year. .879 OPS at AA as a 22 year old is more than solid.
  8. Strolled over to the local cineplex Thursday afternoon ready to watch Top Gun 2 in all its glory. Unfortunately every showing in all 4 theaters was sold out. IN F-N GEORGETOWN, MALAYSIA! Guess the words out that it’s pretty good.

  9. Y'all really need to watch this video.  It's so fucking cringe-worthy, and it's just not the kind of video you should be putting out when you are getting your asses kicked and barely have air superiority over your own troops.
And the woman is rude, so we've got that going for us.
If that were a real pilot, he'd probably be dead already.  Or had a few close calls.

Seems like some pretty solid production value along with a catchy tune. Bonus points for the big tits and DSL’s. Score a (very) minor propaganda victory for the bad guys.
  10. I think it was Oscar Gamble who provided possibly the greatest quote about facing Nolan.

“A good day against Ryan, go 0-4 and don’t get hit in the head.”

  11. BTW-MLB net work had an incredible Astro stat the other day. 75 MLB players last year were either signed or drafted by Houston. 23 more than the next closest organization. (Twenty F’n three!) Run the numbers and let that stat soke in for a moment. Jeff Luhnow was indeed a Wizard!

  12. Anyone ever been to a game in Anaheim?  We're actually going to be out there in July when the Stros swing through town, and I'm thinking of heading over there one evening for a game.  Decent stadium?  Food and beverage situation?  Will we get our asses kicked wearing Astros gear?  Any line on tickets other than Seatgeek and such?

Been to several Astro games there. Absolutely no problem sporting Astro gear. Really laid back fans, decent food and beverage items.

The stadium itself has pretty much a Disney feel. (Appropriate since it’s across the highway.) But they have taken very good care of the facility (unlike Dodger Stadium.)

I know I have walked up to the ticket booth and sat over the Astro dugout for like 125. (Circa 2015) Other than that have always used Stub Hub and don’t think I’ve been more than 10 rows up. Always seems to be good seats available. Huge parking lot, easy access. Go and enjoy.

  13. Speaking of curveball accents…My best bud at Florida was a Chinese-Jamaican. The looks he would get from the rednecks when he started speaking in that thick Rastafarian accent were priceless. Was a stud in the USMC as well as a Force-Recon Company Commander. Hell with a pair of nunchucks in the day.
