1. So one of my oldest nephews has shown some interest in Florida and will be making a campus visit sometime this spring. Gatorubet gatormarc locodos Lidig8r DallasGatr and any other Florida guys here, tell me a few things about the campus and it's culture. None of us have ever been to Gainesville and my brother is curious about the school, it's traditions and things to do in town.

One of the best decisions I ever made was going to Florida instead of UVA. (I was from the DC area.) Expansive, idyllic campus set in a small city that is defined by the university. Gainesville is pretty much the definition of a “college town.”

The school itself was much more rigorous academically than I expected. (I found out I was nowhere near as smart as I thought.) And you can get lost in the crowd if you want to. That said I became pretty tight with a few Profs.

Other than the setting I have always thought of Florida as very similar to UT. Plenty of everything to choose from and a 4-year experience that has helped define me.

2 fun Gator facts: Florida was an all-boys school until 1948. As opposed to FSU which was all-girls. And there are more Jewish students at UF than any school out side of Israel.
2. Was somebody badmouthing Banshee? Lili Simmons got naked and had sex near about every week. I’m not much for white women but that’s enough for me.

3. I'm in Singapore at the moment.  Headed to Siem Reap.  Some of the people meeting up for our trip got caught in all the grounding.  My two Singapore Air flights are on 737 Max planes, but not the 900, the 800.  So, I guess I've got that going for me.

Where did you stay in SIN? I’m going NRT-SIN this afternoon. Hardcore Fairmont guy here.
4. EVA>>>>>United

Been on that SFO-TPE flight twice this year and it blows away United. Great food, service and yes smoking hot, young, sweet FA’s.

My Asian Airline preferences in order:

1-Singapore (Only if you love size zero flight attendants that all look like matching Chinese dolls.)

2-EVA-See above

3-ANA-They seem to only hire hot, young, friendly Japanese girls for cabin crew

4-Korean-Good food, hot, thin FA’s

5-Japan-Great service

6-China Air

7-Cathay-Everything seems off.

(I only rated the airlines I can remember taking since Covid.)

5. My advice has been consistent. If you are a frequent flyer, pick one major airline and stay committed. It will pay off in miles and status (yes, it makes a difference.) Been AA since moving to DFW in the 90’s and I’ve been moving up their food chain ever since. CK for the last 5 years and while not nearly as good as flying private, it’s as close as the bus lines can get. Even my backup airlines are associated with AA. (Taking Qatar later today to Singapore and will get points and miles as if I was flying American.)

6. The long lines have more to do with eating at places that don’t take reservations. Just too many great eats to limit yourself to the fancy joints. (That and I’m on per diem vice expense report.)

2 places that I do highly recommend in Osaka (and no rez needed,) Critters Burger in Shinsaibashi. (Get the Wagu Burger.)

And Dublin Bay Irish Pub in Namba. Looks, feels and smells like a pub in the old country with not a lick of English to be had. But a great Irish/Japanese Whiskey selection at Lubbock prices. 1000 yen for any shot (7 bucks). That includes winners like Yamazaki 12 or Red Breast 12. Happy hour (5-8 I think) it’s 900 a shot. Nice and friendly owners and customers.

7. I walked some of the Singapore circuit today. They have started to close down parts of the streets.

Same, same. There a couple days ago and saw debris fencing in place near the rec club/Fairmont. More than 2 months out and they are getting things done! Love that city/state!
8. WHy do you say these things?  Meyers is on pace to put up 2.5 WAR this season.  There is literally not the slightest possible chance that they are DFA'ing him.

You must be a heck of a lawyer Wulaw. Like a pit bull guarding a bone. Your defense of Jake is relentless, savage and consistent!

9. I'm lazy. Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and final stop Singapore. Penang has been the most interesting place.
Bangkok too much riff-raff. Would have been fun 20 years ago. Good spots on side streets out of the busy spots. Still would recommend.
Malaysia is the best country I've been without a doubt for the best and cheapest food I have ever had. I haven't spent over $5 for a meal.
KL is your typical cosmo city and fun. Penang is very unique. Chinese, Indian, and Malaysian culture. Lot's of everything.
Singapore in a couple days. I'm sure that will be $$$$

I’m totally with you concerning Penang. I always think of it as a low rent Maui (and I mean that in a good way.) Really cool vibe and extremely affordable. I paid 20 Ringett (4.38$) for a haircut a couple weeks ago. And you can get away with dinner for less than that. What part of the island did you stay at?

I always say it’s the most underrated area in Asia.
10. looked up the box score the first time we hit 7 HRs
would not have Tim F’ing Bogar playing the part with Yordan (as the guy with 2 HRs) that day
(Actually I guess you could say it was Berkman or Hidalgo as they each had 2 that day as well)

I was thinking the wind was blowing out, but no 12kts in from RF. The answer probably lies in those pitching staffs. Absolute garbage on a good day.

11. I don’t want to sidetrack the thread, so I’ll drop it after this explanation.

All dictators suck. A dictator that is just trying to enrich himself will steal from you, rough you up, maybe even kill you, but…only if it gets him more money.

A dictator trying to change the system, establish legacy, address generational grievances- that’s the guy who will start wars and get millions killed. Putin always sucked, always disregarded rights and liberties, always murdered with impunity. Now, though, he’s trying for a place in the history books and is wrecking two countries.

It’s like Cambodia in the mid ‘70s. The US backed predecessors to Pol Pot were crooks and authoritarians. Pol Pot was a Marxist crusader focused on social transformation. Who was worse?

WTF? I’m gonna go out on that limb and vote for the commie dictator that oversaw the genocide of 2 million locals. (Like a quarter of the population.) Yea, that will certainly “change the system.”

12. I think TB will be awful. He’s pretty close to a stand in on The Walking Dead now.

I thought the same about Troy before he started. He has certainly not proven me wrong since he got behind the mic.
13. I fly one or two Trans-oceanic round trips/month (usually on AA.) At least 75% of the cat-ranchers (old F/A’s) are worthless/bitter or simply ornery. Probably 50% of the hot (or at least younger) girls have a similar makeup. My dream date on these long flights are the ones who give a s***, and those are the gays.

These results seem similar on other US carriers. Probably to a lesser degree on the Euros. The desert folks are solid, but the cream in service are the Asians. Gold star across the board. (And not just because of the weekly weigh-ins.)

14. SGN NRT SFO DFW
sucks I have to go thru SFO because I wanted to buy some Suntory World Whiskey at NRT but I didn’t check luggage so it’s a no go for that.

Funny, I bought 2 bottles of that stuff in NRT yesterday. Spent about 10 minutes getting my carry-on to close.

I don’t think you can get World Five in the states. And it’s expensive outside of Japan. (Like 75 dollars in SIN.) Its around 35 dollars at the NRT duty free. One of the true deals at a duty free. (Like Jameson Crested in Dublin.)
