  1. many years ago, i went to a dodgers game on manny ramirez bobblehead day, and manny had been dinged up - finger injury or something, for several games, so he didn't play.
the dodgers were tied 2-2 in the 6th and the bases were loaded, and they brought manny in to pinch-hit.  and he hit a grand slam.  and i've never heard a stadium explode any louder.
moral of the story - yuli will probably hit a pinch-hit grand slam tonight, because history doesn't lie.

edit to fix score and include video, surprisingly easy to find.

You could always count on Dusty Baker to DESTROY his own pitching staff!
  2. Let’s face it, Alvarez is not coming to Houston any earlier than the super-2 deadline (early June sometime.) Not because he’s not ready, but simply because we don’t need him. (As our record and team OPS prove.).

Let’s let White try to work his way out of his funk and allow the Wizard try to get that proverbial bag of balls for him. (Or bundle him with a mired pitching prospect for one of those lotto tickets Lunhow is so good at finding.)

  3. Sheeittt.  I ain’t Dallas.  The Dallas people do think they live in heaven.  They think their weather is San Diegoesque.

Most Dallas folks are mindful that we live next door to the sun 3 months/year.
  4. remember, the 7-5 has the same landing gear as the 7-6, but weighs a lot less.  752 is certified to land at MTOW, thus, no dump facility at all.

I think the 767 has bulkier gear. And is also “certified” to land at max takeoff weight. I think the reason it has fuel dump is simply because it carries so much more fuel (160k vice 75k.) And with its much higher normal MLGW (326k vice 198k) dumping simply gives it a chance to land on more runways, at safer approach speeds.

  5. For those of you that love Bosch on Amazon, (and I count myself as one,)  do yourself a favor and read the books.  Harry comes across as much more humorous and somehow even more surly.  Connelly (a great Gator btw,) is a fantastic writer.

  6. Damn Slorch is a Disneyland Marine?   I was 3rd Battalion at PI. (Where they couldn't hear you scream.)  And we only needed 3 of those bad ass DI's.

Years later in my zero life I was in a squadron next door to the the meanest of our drill instructors (a lowly LCPL at that.)  He was now a Gunny and I was a Captain and there was no way in hell I was going to let him know I was within the same zip-code. Fucker gave me a scar on my hand that reminded me of him for 20 some odd years.  But yea, I had it coming.

Getting back on topic, the boot camp scenes were the closest any of the rest of you will ever get to the real thing. R. Lee was legit.

That’s bizarre. It’s two games and, other than Arlington, the closest we’ll play to Houston all year.

Probably a carrot to teams (and the union) for going OOC.  I'd imagine it would be a pitcher and one who is already on the 40-man.

  8. I was there with you but the stats don't lie.
    NL:50 years, 0-1
    AL:5 years, 1-0

Let’s face it, it was flat out extortion from f’n Bud Selig that got us into the AL. I was pissed beyond belief.

But I’m all good now and Fondren is right. We have been pretty good in the AL (other than the initial layout.) And Lunhow has devised a long term plan with the DH (and marginal division opponents) in mind. We look to contend for the AL pennant forever and that’s alright by me.

  9. I don't see my gators getting past this round...   but you never know Come on you flaky bastards have one of your good games for a change!

I’m not going to miss the near schizophrenic offensive efforts from Allen and Hudson.

But I’m sure as heck going to miss the 100% Hayes gives every possession. Totally unsurprising his mother is a career Army officer.

  10. I have not seen the documentary on this incident but I do know the backstory. The original crew went illegal for the flight (8 block hours in 24.) So instead of the 3 STUD Naval Aviators (I think the F/O was a Marine.) The flight was scheduled with a very close to retirement Capt, a female F/O and Calloway himself as the FE.

When they went illegal, Calloway jump seated instead of working the flight. I’m thinking the final result would have been a bit different. (Thank God)

  11. All this awesome extension news and we still have a top farm system. We gonna be good forever. Those dark days of the late McLain years are a fart in the wind. Thank you Crane/Lunhow.

These are the glory days my friend....
