  1. It is crazy to me that they still have Kuminga and Moody just sitting there soaking it up and getting better.  And then you have a #2 pick in Wiseman who could turn out to be a future nothing... or Hassaan Whiteside... or even Joel Embiid.  They can develop those guys for YEARS before they are needed.

Who knows if they will ever be good enough to carry a title team, but they are assets for sure.  They were very wise not to unload them (and Poole / Wiggins) to try to chase a title with Curry's expiring window.  It is like they got to rebuild while keeping all their main title pieces.  It is amazing.

My opinion of Draymond is not reactionary to recent games. I've consistently felt he was overrated since 2017. He puts himself in good position on defense, but he gets away with a ton of shit that should be fouls because of his rep. FWIW I would absolutely take Draymond over Gobert, but that seems like damning with faint praise.

As a defender, Gobert and Draymond are on a similar level. But somehow people forget that Draymond is averaging 7 assists per game - close to his career high.

People will argue that Draymond's assists are a result of playing with Steph, Klay, etc.  Blah blah blah. Complete BS.  If that were the case, you would see a spike in assists when other players are in the Golden State system.  Andrew Wiggins is averaging almost exactly the same assists in GS as he did in Minnesota.  D'Angelo Russel averaged more assists in Brooklyn and Minnesota than he did in GS.  Durant is averaging more assists in Brooklyn than in GS.  Odds are that if Draymond went somewhere else, he would still average 7-8 assists per game.

Draymond has a tremendous talent for getting people involved on the offensive end.  He manages the whole flow of the offense from his point forward position.  He has an infectious way of eliminating hero ball.  The ball hits him in the high post and it is out of his hands in a millisecond finding cutters or open players on the perimeter.  And then on the defensive end, he is directing other players and challenging them when they F up.  It doesn't matter if the other player is Curry or Durant.  Draymond will challenge them.

If you put him on say Portland a few years ago, they would have been soooo much better.  If I were a team like New Orleans, I would do whatever I could to sign Draymond.  Dude makes plays that result in wins.  Tonight, watch how many times Draymond sets a pick or makes a skip pass that results in a mismatch. He makes a huge impact outside the stat sheet.

Fun fact - JC is the same age (51) as Rue McClanahan was on season 1 of the Golden Girls.

Went to the movie with my teenage kids.  They thought JC's character was "gross".  My daughter:  "Eeew. Her skin looks like a jeans jacket."

    They must think I'm hideous.

  4. Draymond is key to keeping the ball moving, setting screens, tipping offensive rebounds, etc.  Swap him with a black hole of a big like Myles Turner and the Warriors are much worse off.

It is kinda ridiculous that GS has a #1 pick that is a role player in Wiggins and a #2 pick (Wiseman) who was shut down and they just put in a better player in Mooney.  They are so stacked with talent it's not even funny.

Don't forget about Kuminga, who is still just 19.  The Warriors have a great young core that they can take their time developing:

    • Kuminga - 19
    • Moody - 19
    • Wiseman - 21
    • Poole - 22

  6. I think Beard had the players putting in effort on defense to a higher degree than at any time in their careers.  My assumption is that this is the reason for the worse shooting.  I chalk it up to conditioning as much as anything.  Hopefully with another year in the system and a full offseason, we will see the percentages increase.

  7. Just went on a golf trip for a week to Ireland with friends.  Amazing trip.  I will say that the Dublin airport is an absolute shit shoe.  Took us 2 HOURS to get our luggage on arrival.  Then when we were leaving, they said "get to the airport 4 hours early".  Seemed absurd to me, but whatever.  It ended up taking every bit of the 4 hours.  I would estimate that the line to get through security was over a mile long. No exaggeration. It was the longest I have ever seen by a considerable stretch - and I travel all the time.

We ended up playing Old Head, Ballybunion, Tralee, Dooks, Heritage and Castlegregory - and drank in more pubs than I can remember.  Probably enjoyed Dingle the most of all the small towns.  Just one great pub after another.  Stayed at a decent hotel in Tralee and used it as our base.  Not the best town, but the location was great for our needs.

  8. I enjoy most shows that don't have a happy ending. As such I was satisfied with this one.

Main complaint is that Ruth should have immediately run to the woods as soon as she saw the SUV.  Then they could have had Camila waiting for her there.

  9. Thanks all. We are going June 4-11. So hopefully it will be a little better weather than later in the summer.

Here is the general route, but I'm not certain what section of Shenandoah NP we will do.  We will get out and do at least a hike or two, probably under 5 miles total.

I'm not set on staying in Richmond on the way back or going down I-95, but it is pretty far back to Raleigh so I'm thinking we will make it part of the way there on Friday.  We fly out at 4 PM on Saturday.  I also have a couple of Marriott 35K nights to burn if there are better options.

Looks like we will be close to Luray Caverns.  Is it worth a detour?  We basically have one full day to get from Charlottesville to Dulles (staying there to make it easy to get to the Air & Space center the next day). That includes any hikes or anything.  We will try to see Monticello the day before.

  10. I think it would be cool if they found a way to put longhorn symbols in the 3-point line or lane, but VERY light and in such a minimal way that you couldn't see it unless you were on the court playing.  I think as a player I would think that was cool.  Something like this...

  11. We’re just stopping for the night in Richmond on the way back to Raleigh to fly home.  Other option would be somewhere on the outskirts of DC like Alexandria. Or drive all the way back to Raleigh and spend the day there before our flight.

  12. I don’t see a world where Bishop isn’t starting. He was great for us last year and will be even better this year. Bishop, Allen and Carr are all guaranteed starts IMO. If Disu starts, Allen will be starting at the 3.

  13. I booked an extended vacation the family this summer to explore the North Carolina coast, Virginia and Washington DC.  We are flying into Raleigh and driving to a variety of places in sort of a figure 8 pattern.  Here is the basic outline and order of destinations.

    • Outer Banks, NC
    • Colonial Williamsburg (and maybe Jamestown)
    • Charlottesville, VA (and Monticello)
    • Shenandoah Valley National Park
    • Washington DC
    • Richmond, VA

Any tips on things to do, places to eat, etc?

  14. A 7th year with a program is too long IMO.  He needs to move on with his life. And we need some fresh blood.  Everybody wins. I don't think he left over money as much as opportunity to do something new.  And the window to be a pro basketball player is pretty narrow, regardless of the league he ends up playing in.

I hope he eventually finds his way back to the program in some capacity.
