I betcha a $20 donation to Burnt Ends that at least once in this trial, trump will no-show and get an after-the-fact exception or something else that that prevents him from getting frog marched into court

In your experience, what percentage of bench warrants are able to be resolved without an arrest? In my experience, I would say about 80% of the time a defendant later voluntarily comes into court, the BW is recalled. So, unless you're willing to give me some pretty good odds, I'm not touching that bet.

If the best a person can do off their medication is murder innocent people: I am sorry but they need to be forced to take their medication or be institutionalized. There is no dignity letting a person not take their medication.  None. Now people are dead bc we think it’s “mean” to force someone to take their meds. It’s not. The only difference is he didn’t have a gun he had a knife. He could have killed the same amount of people or more with a gun but if he’d had a GUN people would just be focused on that. Which is fine. Gun violence enrages me. But I’m tired of people missing the very large elephant in the room. Fucked up people being allowed to wing it. And that’s a recipe for disaster.

what meds was this guy not taking?

    What a twist!

Murder charges have been filed against a man who police say was behind an elaborate scheme that turned deadly to obtain immigration documents, according to records.

William Winfrey, 30, is charged in connection to the death of his accomplice, Rasshauud Scott, after a staged robbery ended in gunfire, according to police.

In a surveillance video from the gas station, Scott is seen running up to a couple at a gas pump and seemingly robbing them of their belongings.

The suspect then tries to run before being fatally shot by a bystander from a red car who witnessed what police believed was a robbery.

Investigators said that the crime was put together for the alleged robbery victims to obtain U-visas. Officials said the visa would allow them to qualify for work permits as the case is being resolved.

That's because the visas are set aside for victims of certain crimes who have suffered, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

Several text messages on Winfrey's phone revealed that he was involved in the planning process, along with the victims and Scott. It was also discovered that Winfrey and Scott staged other robberies last year that resulted in the alleged victims obtaining visas.

How in the world is that a justified shooting? Unarmed man shot in the back leaving a scene?

You say you "disagree that Israel is ethnically cleansing Gaza"....then proceed to type multiple sentences justifying....Israel's ethnic cleansing of Gaza.  Seriously, WTF?

Senior Israeli leadership has stated plainly that they want all Palestinians -- combatants, civilians, ALL of them -- driven out of Gaza.  That's ethnic cleansing.  Oh, and they also have stated that they'll use famine to achieve that goal, so a war crime achieved with a war crime.  Nope.  IDGAF how justified Israel was and is in a military response to Oct. 7th, "drive every Palestinian out of Gaza, including civilians, by any means, including war crimes" doesn't pass muster.  It never has, it never will.

And finally, if the concern is "there's a group of people who hate Israel so much they don't think it has a right to exist," then the cure of "so let's treat them with perfect cruelty and subject them to war crimes" is not exactly a recipe for solving that problem.

  5. There are reasons why the DAs try most high profile and media cases downtown - its where the their "best" prosecutors are, the building is equipped to handle the media and the accompanying logistical issues, and its the center of criminal justice center in LA County. Not to mention, no way in hell they were going to try the case in front of an all-white jury in Santa Monica after the Rodney King Trial and resulting riots.

The Santa Monica courthouse is a tiny, run-down building that never could have accommodated the traveling circus that came with the case.

Looks like perjury has consequences after all.  I suspect he has money too.

That's weird. I've seen hundreds of lowly, everyday people perjure themselves on the stand and not once have I seen one even charged with perjury, much less convicted

one of our local legal experts is going to need to explain why the system seems to be only working against the wealthy.

Bro.... Do you think she thinks anything?

The political forums are very interesting.

Most elected officials aren't saying what they think (assuming they think) or believe. They're saying what they think will get them re-elected.

I've been trying to tell y'all this since the HF days. There are so few politicians that care about us, if any. They become millionaires 'serving' the greater good.

I'm hoping against all hope that I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. History shows this country will become a mostly homogeneous community of non-thinkers. Which great society has not?

So the question becomes, will this country become a group of accepting non-thinkers?

Considering the primary drivers of the community over the history of this country (profit, division, war) it doesn't look good.

    I want to be wrong.

I hope football can save us.

So she became a Qanon adherent 3 years before running for any political office to lay the groundwork for a future run, but she never really believed in it?
