Astros can still easily win this division and get the bye.

    fify.

If this season has proved anything with all the injuries and illnesses and inconsistent play, it's the difficulty with which this team has gaining ground on the Rangers. One thing this team has not done this year that every Astros team since 2017 accomplished (covid season excluded for obvious reasons) was a double-digit winning streak. This year's longest winning streak was eight games back in May and during that streak the Astros went from 4 gb to 1 gb and then promptly lost two straight to fall to 3 gm behind. That is this season in a nutshell imo.

I don't expect this current margin of difference in the standings to improve positively in our direction with the way this lineup is hitting and the state of the starting pitching lately. It's not impossible of course and Fangraphs says the Astros are the current favorite out of the AL to win the WS but nothing about winning this division will be easy. We still have not logged a single day of sole possession of first place.

  2. Gaining ground tonight feels like a miracle. We haven't been within 1.5 of first place since Aug 4th. So very stupid that this team couldn't take advantage of the Rangers getting swept over the weekend and decided it was a great time to get swept as well.

They’ve played 4 more home games than the Astros. The Astros have the 28th toughest ROS SOS with opponents having a .471 winning %. Rangers have the 13th toughest, playing teams with a .503 winning % the rest of the way.

Relatedly, they have also played  a considerably easier schedule based on SoS than the Astros. 28th to the Astros 15th....which confirms my gut feeling. What gets me is that it feels like the majority of the time they're playing a winning team, they get them at home.

  4. Every time I check the schedule it seems we're playing a >.500 and/or hot team while the Rangers are playing at home, always. That series they took at SF was a surprise because they aren't a great road team. The schedule has been very good to them. I mean jfc they had the Guardians at home followed by the Rays and Dodgers as well, then went on the road and lost to us and San Diego. Then they got to play the ChiSox and MIA at home. Now they get first-place Milwaukee at home this weekend. Godfuckingdamn. Their schedule is giving them blowjobs daily.

I’m with the power lines starting a fire theory. PG&E started many wildfires in California so it’s not like it’s a crackpot conspiracy.

Yep. My in-laws lived in Paradise CA and lost everything in that monster fire and are signed on to the class action suit against PG&E. My father-in-law was driving kids to school that morning and barely made it out. His burned out school bus was all over the news. I can't even talk to them about this horrific Maui fire because I don't think they have fully processed what they went through.

    Wildfires suck.

I guess I forgot that they fucked with the schedule midstream last year.

I guess I forgot as well because I have no idea what you are referring to.

Maybe you forgot that last season's postseason schedule was affected by the new CBA and the delayed start of the season due to the ownership lockout?
