Why the fuck is San Antonio that low when they have more water scarcity problems than Austin?

Eh she told me just to do it for the first 20 yards or so until I was out of the crowd, I was just so freaked out I took it to the max. It was only a 1000 yard swim or something short, and I’m comfortable in the water even though I’m not fast. I had just never considered the possibility of drowning because of things outside my control. The other tri I did was a staggered start, which makes way more sense from a safety perspective.

My significant other used to do several tri’s a year when we first started dating. She talked me into doing one with her that was an open water swim in the ocean. I’m a decent swimmer but not at a competitive level.
The day of the swim was relatively choppy, which I wasn’t looking forward to. Then as I was headed to the start to jump in the water, she decided to tell me about keeping your head up above water, so you can see other swimmers and not get kicked in the head and drown.
I think I was one of the slowest guys in my age cohort, as I basically swam head up the whole way. Freaked me the fuck out. I’ve done one more since but it was a way smaller race that was better organized and in Canyon Lake.

I’d love for some smart person to calculate the economic impact of the lost productivity for Houston this week, and compare that to the cost of burying the major lines.

Reading his obit, his stint in Iraq was just another event in his life. The guy had seen some shit. RIP

Not an engineer but have repaired enough framing to tell you what the engineer would likely say.
SYP lumber of same dimensions, each side of the chord of the truss. Glue generously with construction adhesive, and as I assume you don’t have a framing nailer, screw 2 rows of 4” structural screws alternating sides 6 inches on center. I prefer Grk https://www.homedepot.com/p/GRK-Fasteners-10-x-4-in-R4-Self-Countersinking-Flat-Head-Multi-Purpose-Screw-50-per-Pack-103141/203525231
congrats, it’s now way fucking stronger than it was originally.

This is some fucked up thinking that we can only have convenient and cost effective items if they're poisoning us.
It's too bad the EPA was recently stripped of its authority to regulate this sort of thing.
Truly some rot economy horseshit.
It’s not that we can only have them if they’re poisonous. It’s that over and over again we’ve chosen the most convenient and/or cost effective option over all else.
is cast iron or steel cookware as idiot proof for eggs as Teflon? No. Is it absolutely worth it for a whole host of reasons? Yes.
Plastics and health just ultimately end up being a result of short term thinking.

I agree 100% with everything you just typed. Joe Biden is undoubtedly the best president of my lifetime. And to be honest, it isn't even particularly close. There are things I would wish had been done better. But the list of accomplishments in 3.5 years is pretty remarkable.
And now it's time for him to do one more thing for his country--stand down. Give a gracious speech from the Oval about how it's time to pass the torch to a new generation. Channel JFK's First Inaugural, except instead of being the torch-recipient, speak as the torch-passer. It would breathe new life into the campaign. It would give the Democratic candidate an unbelievable advantage of not just being not old, but also of being the basis for excitement for the future. It would defeat Trump.
It would save the Republic.
I’m a few beers deep, but this is the type of thinking that has typified democratic policy my whole life. I hope he gets up at the next debate and tells trump to fuck off. Don’t be scared.
besides that, if he steps aside the dems lose. Who else beats trump? The best president of the last 50 years or an unknown. For a smart guy I don’t fucking get this take at all.

I ran last night at 9pm and it didn't make a shit. The asphalt was just radiating heat. Looks like 5am is the only option until November.

I saw some study that said a massive percentage of ocean based microplastics are essentially paint fragments. It made sense to me seeing as modern latex paints are essentially plastic coatings, but in a quick google I can’t find what I’d consider a reputable source to confirm/deny. Everything seems to point back to one study by some euros.

Seems like I’ve said some version of that so many times the last few years. Why has that project taken so long?

My grass has given up already. Last week it looked healthy. This week it looks like it could die tomorrow.

Tribute videos ring a little hollow when we’ve done jack shit as a society to enact change. Honestly it seems disrespectful.

You can beat the rap, but you can’t beat the ride?

I mean, the kid down the street from me that murdered a dude back in 2015 got 20 but is up for parole this year. 1st degree. Seems like Austin has always sucked, Garza is just continuing the trend.

It’s expensive after the fact. Every utility is. Planned in advance it’s cheaper and safer. Unless someone can prove me wrong I’ll continue to believe this is a direct result of kicking the can down the road, and being unwilling to invest for the future.

Multiple active shooters fired at main entrance of JBSA-Chapman Training Annex in San Antonio

It’s not that hard when you look at rates of alcohol use and suicide for active duty personnel. Having lots of guns around is a bad idea. Now guard shack of a major installation seems different to me, but it is also located inside the city limits of a relatively safe American city.
