  1. Really? That’s your standard?

Imagine with me that she is telling the 100% gods honest truth.

Without more - DNA evidence, something - can you imagine a DA that would even move forward on that? That’s kinda the problem with a lot of sexual assaults - only two people know what happened, and the only evidence (say, DNA) is also consistent with consensual behavior.

She could be telling the perfect truth, and the criminal case would still be a non-starter. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. It means that it can’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

I’m loving watching the standards being applied to accusers and victims, though. Truly eye opening. Either you file a full blown criminal compliant the day after an assault happened, or you’re a lying psycho bitch.

The last bit has bothered me most about this whole deal. Especially when it’s from women. Fuck
  2. Calling my shot for late Thursday. In a surprising turn of events Brent Kavanaugh confesses that he took the alias “Doug Supernaw” in the 90s. He then launches into an emotional rendition of “Reno” directed at Ford as McConnell pulls a fiddle from his neck waddle and lays down hot fiddle work and perfect harmonies.

    Confirmation is unanimous.

  3. To be honest, it's your avatar in conjunction with your posts that I disagree with that really get under my skin. One or the other would be fine. Both, however, is too much for my delicate constitution.
P.S. I'm also daydrinking in preparation for watching the game as I wait for Favor to deliver me a jalapeno cheeseburger w/ curly fries from Dan's. So, yeah, I'm getting a bit surly. My apologies.

    Completely agree regarding a Chrispy.
  4. Large sized Beto sign near 360 and 2222 defaced with red spray paint and “Trump” spelled out several times. WTF I don’t ever remember this level of vitriol. I’ll try and see if I can flip the signs around tomorrow.

Pretty close to the area where I saw the “V” placed over the B in Beto with red tape that was quickly removed.

  5. It's clear to me that Jesus would not align with the Empire or any one of its parties.  He would align with people who follow and live his message.  Yes, I suspect He'd be outraged by those who try to use his name to provide some sort of holy shield for their personal views and actions, so I doubt he'd be a pal of the modern Evangelical GOP.  But that's still less a political position than it is a theological position on that particular heresy.
I think it's entirely irrelevant if you call yourself Christian, or if you run under that banner, or if other folks, agreeing with your politics, label you a good Christian.  You can label a box of shit "caviar" all day long, and it will remain a box of shit.  Christianity is a "Way."  You either endeavor to live by that Way, or not.  The Gospels aren't that complicated.  They are difficult as hell for us shallow, selfish human beings to really follow, but they're not particularly complicated or ambiguous.
In short, politically speaking, I don't much care whether you are a Christian. Odds are, if you really are one, and you really endeavor to follow the Gospels, I will admire you and your beliefs.  Also, odds are that if you loudly proclaim yourself as the Christian candidate, 1) you are not, and 2) I will find you a hypocritical loathesome toad.

Christianity at its core is quite simple. Love God completely. And love thy neighbors.

That’s the new covenant which should supersede the old covenant and all the Old Testament concepts evangelical like to cherry pick to justify hating the gays and browns. The mental gymnastics around this concept is insane.

  6. Nah, they got their anti-Hillary hate somewhere.  Likely Rush.  They're not passive observers enjoying their deer leases and F150s (mind the recall, please).

Disagree. She unlikeable enough, add in a few casual conversations around the campfire about D = taking guns and that’s all you need for them to punch straight R. A few sound bites about going after China and they are all in.
  7. I do not.  I can understand a Trump vote then - or at least folks thinking that much of his actual personality was just an act - with the Real Donald emerging after his election.  And I get the Hillary aspect.   I am talking about the right here and now.   If one is a real-time Trumpkin as I type this, they are beyond hope.  They are either deplorable, or intensely stupid, or turnip truck naive on steroids.    And I think the three categories roughly line up with the percentage of now-time Trumpkins, with the greater number being the former and the lesser number the latter.

No he’s correct. Plenty of normal guys I fish with. Don’t follow politics, don’t read long-form journalism, maybe a bit of Fox News etc. They aren’t cruel or hateful either. Just enjoying the F250, house on the West End/ or POC and the deer lease. Millions of willfully ignorant out there.
Unfortunately Democracies require a well informed electorate.
In that regard we are fucked.

  8. Only 5 new registrations at the event, which was less of an event than "hang out at this place where people sometimes come", but that's OK.  I asked one guy if he was registered and he said "you don't want to talk to me, Cruz fan." (he was not being a dick)  To which I shrugged and said "I'll still register you.".  But he was registered.  Got two yard signs to go deliver to two of the doors I knocked on who said they were supporters but need a yard sign.  Gay couple who own two homes and need a second one for this one, and an awesome woman in a wheelchair who was talking about how incredible it was to see Beto at the Texas Disability Issues Forum.
Also the funniest moment was knocking on the door of one unit of a duplex, a bit run down.  I'm standing there waiting the requisite 20 seconds for a sign of life and think "it stinks of Raid".  I look up to see if there's a dead wasp nest or something.  Holy shit, there are two dozen wasps clinging to the eave directly above my head.  Slowly backing away.
I recommend going out and doing one of these things, it was fun and I didn't really have any bad experiences.  If anyone needs a VDR for a thing, lemme know (but also you can post in any of the Beto facebook groups, or I can give you an e-mail to get in contact with a broader Travis county VDR list).

    Nice work!

I’m a VDR also. I’m busy next week but want to get active again in that capacity up until the deadline. Let me know if you want to step up a table on campus or another target rich environment and split hours manning it. Or if you come across any good VDR opportunities.
  9. I have had my yard sign stolen 3 times over last two months. Ordered 5 more. Got my friends house too.

Party of Law and Order and Civility!

Really upset my son. Some petty chickenshit fuck Head is going to make that boy a hard core anti republican for life.

  10. Whether securing a town in Iraq is necessary to protect my freedom is irrelevant to the soldier and should be to us a well when it concerns the consideration of the soldier's sacrifice and willingness to obey orders and do their job.  That is why combat engagement and war mongering should not be taken lightly.
Otherwise, I agree with your point, and will make another.  We have been at war for so long that "supporting the troops" has become commonplace and taken for granted. Faux patriotism has taken the place of genuine concern and active participation in civic duty. Everyone is a hero now-combat troops, first responders, athletes, special needs kids and adults, moms and dads that just do their jobs, 5th place soccer teams at a city tournament, and on and on.  When everybody is a hero, nobody is a hero.

I disagree. Nothing trumps the hero worship of our troops. Law Enforcement is a distant second.

I support our troops and volunteer with veterans a lot. I know some real fuck-ups who’d be in jail without the Army, and some real heroes. I’m grateful for their service. I wish we did a fuckton more to help them return to civilian life. But the cult like worship of our troops is dangerously over the top. I’m glad it’s not like the Vietnam Era. But to act like these guys are all superhuman heroes without fault is pretty ridiculous.

But it’s far easier to hug the flag than sit down and discuss how broken are system is.

  11. Native Houstonian here. I went back for a couple of years and I’ve also driven all over the country. Houston is fine, just a lot of people driving long distances daily to skew the numbers.
West Austin is the absolute worst area I’ve encountered. Entitled rich fucks giving no fucks, Prius drivers and olds are a bad mix. Texting while driving, speeding, driving 40 in a 55 passing at 100mph in the median, coming to a complete stop on 620 to turn right. I’ve been in 3 wrecks in 5 years and none were my fault. I was rear ended once by a BMW bro who was texting when he plowed into me while I was sitting at a red light, about 40 yards from another accident that was still being cleaned up.

  12. I don’t see it as a Dukakis moment. Completely different motivation and circumstances. This was not a self -aggrandizing cheesy photo-op to look tough in a tank, this was being human enough to play along with a prank and be a good sport. It’s pretty funny. And it highlights Beto’s hard work and determination.

Cruz will run with it and trip on his dick in another funny way self-owning way that he didn’t intend at all. “Real Texans don’t sweat”

  13. The questions in that survey are amazing. The white persecution syndrome is so over the top.

Yeah, content, writing style, persecution complex. I laughed at the robust options for “news sources”.
  14. It's dumb for a bunch of adults to act like babies about the F-word, but specifically speaking for myself, I wouldn't want my elementary age kids hearing that. But then again, are elementary age kids going to rallies? It's all young adults and adults, right? Asking for a friend who has never been to a political rally of any sort, not even a campus/student election event.

    1. Uh Potus, on TV etc

    2. Like that’s the first time kids are exposed to the F bomb. What the fuck, weak sauce
  15. I woke up worried the onslaught of negative ads and the PAC / no-PAC spending is gonna be super tough to overcome.

I woke up worried that we have a nation so full of morons that won’t vote for Beto because of a Dui in 1998 but Trump is aight.
