OU fans are PISSED bc Lebby barely called any downfield throws for Gabriel against KU.

Will be interesting to see if he does the total opposite against OSU

I'm sure fans were bitching about that, but if KU played them defensively similar to how they played us, they had their safeties WAY back for the whole game looking to prevent downfield passing plays.  So we basically didn't throw downfield against them either; we just picked them apart underneath and then with runs and screens to Gordon.

We tend to not play our safties deep which is one reason (along with youth) that have gotten burned somewhat often.

If they don't throw it downfield against us, there may be something wrong physically with Gabriel. Either that, or Lebby is actually as dumb as he looks.

Okie State better start putting Gordon on a pitch count in some of these blowouts.  They are going to break him.  He is special.

LOL well we did put him on a pitch count when Gundy was treating the first three games like the NFL preseason:

    • vs. Central Arkansas - 7 carries
    • vs. Arizona State - 9 carries
    • vs. South Alabama - 3 carries

But yeah I tend to agree. Hopefully a few of those games after Bedlam we can win comfortably and take some of his workload.

  3. I don't know what to think about this game.

OU has looked like shit in their only two road games this year, but as it always happens, I expect them to look awesome on Saturday.

Our young safties will give up 2-3 long TD passes for sure... just hope it's ONLY 2-3 and we can do enough other good stuff (Ollie Gordon) to offset it.

Obviously we can't turn it over at all and our special teams, which looked fantastic all year, has all of a sudden looked shaky the past two weeks. Need to clean that up.

Who the hell knows. I don't feel good right now but I'll probably convince myself we have a chance by the end of the week and then we'll predictably lose in some excruciating way.

You lose credibility when you say stuff like OU played SMU as a true road game.

Ok yeah brain fart on my part. It doesn’t change the point being made. They have played like shit in their only two true road games. Happy now?

Who in this thread has said they aren’t?

Maybe they are and maybe they aren’t.

Kansas State has blown every team out - both at home and away - since we played them. I think they are pretty fucking good. And save me the “they got to play against Howard” nonsense. Howard is fucking good - we just confused him and shut down their running game (which we have done against everyone).

OU has played 3 true road games this year and looked shitty in all three - a dogfight with SMU (who is OK but still G5), a dogfight with Cincy (who sucks) and then a loss at KU.

Yes, I’m fully aware and expecting that they will play awesome against us on Saturday, but I’m just saying *at this point* one can make a valid argument that essentially dominating K-State isn’t a pretty impressive win.

(Yes I know the score doesn’t show that but that game was never in doubt. We were up 3 scores with like 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and then Gundy went into turtle mode)

We’re playing very aggressive which has been good at making stops when needed but also gives up big plays. I really think the defense is pretty good overall and I think we can get those big plays under control as the secondary gets more experienced. I hope so at least.

I don’t even know that’s it’s being aggressive so much as it is having two freshmen safeties. They’ve been getting confused/torched on the reg and I don’t expect that to change on Saturday.

The upside/good news is that the DL is legit and Nick Martin is giving big-time Malcolm Rodriguez vibes so we’ve mostly been able to contain running games.

I’m just accepting the fact that OU will get 2-3 long TD passes on Saturday. I’m hoping we do enough good other stuff to offset them.

This should be one of the better OU/OSU games in recent memory. I think it will be a who has the ball last kind of game.

Last year was ass because our whole team was injured but that 2021 game was pretty fucking awesome. If you don’t recall it’s when we sacked Caleb Williams on the last play of the game to win and then Lincoln Riley left town the next day.

I’ve seen this movie before. Okie State receiving tons of hype, rolling, and catch OU at home. OU is coming off a loss, and struggling again on defense.

I fully expect OU to blow their doors off next week.

Literally the last time this happened (2021) we won.

But as a long-suffering fan, I get the skepticism.

On the one hand, OU hasn’t played well on the road in two years. This year they have played 3 true road games - they struggled with SMU and Cincinnati and just lost to Kansas. But on the other hand, I’m sure the game they will finally put it together will be in Stillwater, lol.

I honestly have no idea what to think about this game. I expect our secondary will be burned deep several times, but every time I think I’ve seen the most spectacular Ollie Gordon thing he does something more spectacular on the next play so… I don’t know.

Football is a complimentary game though. His offense hurts his defense in a lot of ways. First off when teams play against Riley they come in knowing they HAVE to be aggressive with the offensive gameplan because Riley's offense is going to score. Second, having a big, explosive offense leaves a lot of time for the opponent to take it's shots too. Sometimes limiting the amount of possessions can be your best friend. The more possessions the opponent gets, the more chances they have to figure out your defense. You score fast and early and the opponent starts taking its shots too and by the end of the game they have figured you out defensively, and made some adjustments offensively.

Their pace-adjusted stats are shit too. They are in the 80s in defensive points per possession and defensive points per play.

Maybe you're thinking Tulane? They started playing them annually when they were in CUSA and have continued to play them regularly since.

Nah I was thinking of Tulsa, just not remembering right (again...Bourbon).

I think the deal was that everyone around here made a big deal about it at the time because they were briefly in the same conference, but I guess they never played? Or maybe Tulsa joined C-USA right after Army left? I can't keep track.. feels like Tulsa was jumping conferences every couple of years there for a while.... WAC, C-USA, Big East, AAC, etc.

I keep asking the same thing.  He only wins in college when he has an overwhelming talent advantage and in the NFL, everyone has essentially the same talent level, with a few exceptions.

Yeah... only thing I can think of is that his main problem in college seems to be that he won't fire his shit-tastic defensive coordinator.

They are currently 3rd in the country in scoring offense and 105th (!!!) in scoring defense.  I mean, if they were "only" like 60th or so in scoring defense they would likely be undefeated and ranked in the top 5.  If they had a top 10-15 defense (which USC absolutely should be able to do) they would be blowing everyone out and be a national title contender.

If I'm an owner of an NFL team and are willing to hire him, my terms would be "We are hiring you for your offensive acumen. We are not hiring your buddy who is a shitty DC. You will hire a real DC."

I believe in this scenario, you work your way down the list of common conference opponents.  OSU's loss to ISU (shared opponent of all 3 teams) knocks them out.

So here's a reasonable scenario I just came up with - and I think this would send Iowa State to the title game?

In this case - OSU wins Bedlam and it's OU's only loss so they are in.

Assume (because this is OSU we're talking about) we drop 1 of @ UCF, @ Houston or vs. BYU... probably 1 of the 2 road games.

    And then this also happens:

    • Texas' only remaining loss is at Iowa State
    • K-State only remaining loss is at Texas
    • Iowa State's only remaining loss is at K-State

So that would leave OSU, Texas, K-State and Iowa State all with 2 losses

If you do a "round robin" among those four teams, everyone is 1-1 except Iowa State, who is 2-1, being the only one of the group to play all 3 other teams.

EDIT - the only thing I'm not sure about - does "record against highest placed opponent" do anything? Because in this scenario, OSU would be the only team in the group to have beaten OU.

I'll say that looking at the schedules, Kansas will be a big factor in who gets in, as they play OU, K-State and Iowa State. Also, outside of Bedlam, OSU definitely has the easiest remaining schedule; although UCF is going to be much tougher to deal with now that Plumlee is back.

Did he honestly need a 3 man rotation for 3 games to figure out that Bowman was better than his noodle armed kid and the other jag?

    No. It was fucking ridiculous.

His kid sucks but Rangel was a legit potential starter. He’s a RS sophomore and was a decent recruit from Frisco.

I would have been fine with giving him the full-time gig this year for development purposes since Bowman is gone after this year, but Bowman was the clear and obvious choice from day 1 to give us the best chance this year.

So yeah the rotation thing was dumb as shit.

So I was thinking this through (as best as I am able) the fact that we don't play them, and the possible tie scenarios involving 1 loss teams.  If OSU runs the table, that obviously tags OU with a loss.  If us, OSU and OU all have one loss, we'd have between the three:

    OSU 1-0

    OU 1-1

    Texas 0-1

Do they run the schedule comparison in that scenario?  Or are we on the outside looking in no matter what?

Bottom line to all this is if Kansas beats OU, then its all moot as either OU or OSU would have 2 losses after Bedlam in KU wins.

Yeah with the unbalanced schedule and no divisions I have NO IDEA what will happen if there are multiple 1-loss teams at the top of the standings... there's also a decent possibility of a 1-loss team at the top and then like 3 or 4 two-loss teams tied for the #2 spot.

(I could see like a 1-loss OU at the the top and then, say, OSU, Texas, K-State and Iowa State all with two losses... not sure if that's even possible with schedules but it feels like it could happen?)

Who knows how that will get sorted out but I'm sure it'll be a shit show, lol.

We have three bedlam wins since 2011. Only UT and KSU have more in that time span. And yes I used 2011 to get that third win in there, doesn’t really matter, we don’t beat them much. But it’s not like anyone else beats them consistently. It just hurts more when we lose to them because fuck em.

Yes with all of the "Gundy shits the bed against OU all the time" talk forgets is that they have just flat been better than us for the vast, vast majority of the time. In Gundy's 15+ years as OSU's coach, there really only was one Bedlam game that he lost that we had absolutely, positively no business losing - the 2013 game.  But then he also won one that we had absolutely positively no business winning (2014).

Outside of that, you have 2011 when we were a prohibitive favorite and absolutely curb-stomped them.

Every other game in the series during his tenure, OU was either the prohibitive favorite or the game could be classified as a "toss-up" at best.

On the whole you could say that he maybe should have won maybe 1 or 2 more of the "toss-up" games (I'd consider the 2021 win to be more or less a "toss up"); but it's not like he's constantly losing to them as a favorite. They have just regularly beaten EVERYONE.

I don’t see why y’all dropped them from the schedule. Isn’t it good for the B12 for y’all to have an annual game with them?

WE didn't "drop them from the schedule." THEY left for the SEC, effectively ending the series for the foreseeable future.

As for scheduling them in the non-conference, we already have several non-conference series against P5 scheduled way into the future at this point, including series with Arkansas, Alabama, Oregon and Nebraska. Those series take us into the mid/late 2030s.  I don't think anyone would say it's a great idea to throw OU in as a non-conference game with those games already scheduled.

That said, I think we will eventually start playing them as a non-conference game; it will just take a while to get it scheduled.

We also had a home-and-home scheduled with Colorado in the late 2030 that will obviously need to be filled now. I think there's a decent chance that Bedlam will take their place; and if not then probably in the 2040s.

The lack of holding calls has been frustrating for years.

Then you see a game like Bama and you say our DL has a legit pass rush when we don't have Big 12 refs. It's going to be amusing when we think our DL is a lot better in the SEC simply because the refs don't suck.

Prediction: there will be a “Fuck SEC refs” thread on this site before the end of next season.
