What are you talking about, a lot of high 3-star/low 4-star Ohio athletes grow up thinking of Lubbock or Lawrence, KS as a proving ground one day.  I get the BYU and Houston invites, but the Cincy and UCF thing as "recruiting" plays just baffles me.  Good thing we can quit giving a shit about any of it in about 8 months.  I'm not happy about moving to the SEC, but can't wait to get the fuck outta this train wreck.

I don't know I went down the rabbit hole, obviously we just need to win out.  But suddenly KSU and ISU are looking a bit saltier as of late.  But looking at the tie-breaker scenarios for the Big XII championship game.  We all knew them cold when it was just Top 2 teams from 10 and we all played each other for a decade+.  But this thing's a flow chart of diarrhea.  We have one slip-up game to KSU or ISU (or worse, TCU)...it gets ugly in a hurry.  Because we also don't play OSU or WVU who could, for some bizarre reason possibly be in the mix with an upset or two on their own.  Early to think about, but this season is flying by so thought I'd have a look.  I think Oklahoma drops one between @OSU & @ BYU, but they're not losing 2 games.  So this gets jammed up with all of us missing different sets of 4 opponents.  /rant

I'm almost certain that Cincy and UCF weren't added as "recruiting" plays, they were added as "market" plays. TV is driving the bus on this whole thing, after all.

As wild as this seems given our horrid start, OSU will be sitting in a very nice position if we win in Morgantown this weekend. After that, Bedlam at home is our only game against the top half of the conference - all the rest are against the new guys.

Yeah didn’t realize I was tagged in this post six weeks ago, my bad.  Once I got past 40, i sort of stopped having the tv tuned to games all weekend at home…love watching football with friends, but it’s not as intense a connection anymore.

Regarding Gundy…only real gripe is blind spot for quarterbacks over the decades.  Not sure if it’s due to his playing days or what, but he finds ways to fuck with it regularly…we all thought Bowman was brought in specifically to let Rangel/Gundy season up but instead he fucks with it.  He stops fucking with it, look what happens…state of Kansas 2023 champions.

    Stop fucking with it, Mike.

As the season moves along that three-QB rotation AND RB rotation in the non-conference is going to piss me off more and more.

I don’t think there’s any question that we would be 5-0 at this point if he just names Bowman the starter from day 1 and runs Gordon out there 50-60% of the time at a bare minimum. If he wanted to do the rotation thing for show he should have ended it after the first game. Get fucking serious and run Bowman out there after that to let him build up reps/rapport with the rest of the offense. Once he finally got to do that look what fucking happened.

I get wanting to not burn Gordon out but he had four fucking carries against South Alabama. He’s clearly and obviously the most talented player on offense, FFS.

  3. That game felt so much like an OSU-Texas Tech game from around 2007-09 or so. Both teams getting like 9 yards per play all day…. The only way we would get stops is getting an INT or a fumble or something.

    Fun game but stressful AF.

Kansas is NOT fun to play against… that offense is something.

The get two weeks to prepare for OU in Lawrence now. Would love to see them carve up Venables. You know they’re gonna throw the kitchen sink at them.

Wasn't it prior to the end of the season in the last 3 or 4 years?  Like maybe the COVID year?

Yeah I listed them out up thread a bit. In 2020 it was our 3rd to last game; but then it was the last game again in 2021 (when we beat them in the last Caleb Williams/Lincoln Riley game) and then last year it was back to the 2nd to last game again.

  5. I learned long ago that our particular orange is just (for whatever reason) one of those colors that can look almost totally different in different lighting conditions, whether or not you are watching live or on TV, hell it even looks different from network to network.

Plus two different people can look at it and see something different. I don’t know why.

  6. Thanks for the kind words, guys. I really do appreciate it.

I found ShaggyBevo more than 10 years ago… I think it was during the 2010 season… around the time of the legendary “Co-op statues” thread.

It quickly became my favorite ever sports/pop culture/food/everything message board and slowly became the only one I ever post on.

I love all of you of assholes.

Guess I hadn't realized that. They've moved the Texas/Tech game around a bunch as well ever since we quit playing aggy.

That still seems really early. Sounds like it's only been that early one other time.

There have been earlier ones, I just didn't go back that far. We actually played them in October once or twice back in the Les Miles days.

There were some others that were off-and-on early like that even going back to the Big 8 days.

I'd say like 90% of the time it's been the last game of the year, but then it's bounced around in various times in November (mostly) for the other 10% of the time with a few other outliers in late October.

  8. So I'm almost a week late on this, but I have to say... I'm very pleased with how we have "standardized" our uniform look this year. So much better than a bunch of wacky combinations that would be sometimes good and sometimes meh.

Pardon if this has been discussed - why in the fuck is Bedlam being played on November 4th?

They've moved that game around off-and-on over the years. It's typically been the last game of the season for us, but not always.

We actually also played on Nov. 4 back in 2017... it was also on Nov. 10 in 2018, and was our second-to-last game last year and was like our 3rd-to-last game in 2020.

So yeah - mostly the last game of the season, but not always.

They still haven’t answered where Ahsoka was during Eps. 4-6 when old Luke could’ve used some help from a Jedi master. I thought we might get a backstory to justify her absence.

I’m intrigued what was in Thrawn’s cargo and the plan on Dathomir. Most of you know that’s where the Night Sister’s resurrected Maul. Maybe this is Filoni explaining the “somehow” that Palpatine returned?

On the first point, it seems pretty clear to me - Ashoka was traumatized by finding out that Anakin had become Vader ... so much so that she didn't trust herself to either train Sabine or get involved in the Galactic Civil War for fear of losing either her apprentice (or herself) to the Dark Side. That's pretty much was her character arc was about in first half of this series prior to her spiritual awakening in her World Between Words meeting with Force ghost/Force memory Anakin when she became "Ashoka the White."

The Palpatine returning stuff may or may not be related to Nightsister magic but the cargo is almost certainly corpses of dead Stormtroopers that will be re-animated by the Nightsisters on Dathomir.

Last night was Queens of the Stone Age and Viagra Boys. Excellent show!
I wish the set for Viagra Boys was longer but otherwise fun show.e5a63a37edccc4fb294adb77e11885af.jpgc4491f207275feb06cb62bb21e6e981e.jpg9844cfa3db9f0f70cb1461ddb1a16d0a.jpgd9ee641f3c455548fa12b3fcf328e0c3.jpg

    Awesome.

I haven't seen QoTSA since the "Like Clockwork" tour. They kick so much ass. I need to see them again soon. They are playing OKC on this tour but not Tulsa. Boo.

This is the last I will pick at it.

Watch the first episode of Mando.

Then watch any episode of Ahsoka.

    This is a preference thing.

Mando leans heavily into the "Western" influence of Star Wars (John Ford movies, etc.), while Ashoka leans heavily into the "fantasy" references/elements (Lord of the Rings, Dune, etc.) of Star Wars.

It's fine if you prefer the former, but it doesn't mean the latter is "bad" for those of us who enjoy that aspect of the show.

For a "bad" example of the latter, see the Obi-wan show. For that matter, for a "bad" version of the former, see Book of Boba Fett.

In fact, I think it's pretty awesome that we can get three distinct types of Star Wars, and they all kick fucking ass when done well:

    • Western / samurai adventure stuff (Faverau)
    • Fantasy / Space Wizard stuff (Filoni)
    • Gritty / real / political stuff (Gilroy)

Maybe I'm nitpicking here but the scene where the two tie fighters got within visual range of the Ahsokas ship was lazy witting.

Why didn't their scanners pick them up, why didn't Ezra or Ahsoka not "sense" danger and we've seen that ship take hits from tie fighters over the multiple series and never sustain that kind of damage before. Just seemed odd as did the fight with Morgan

The series was really good overall and I'm curious to see where Filoni takes it but Rosario is really showing Ahsokas age in light saber fights

It’s a loooooooong Star Wars tradition that Force powers are used as the plot dictates.

Best just to understand that and go with it.

Ok I’m going to the well one more time here- these repulsolifts seem to be largely imperceptible visually.  Yet forward thrust both in atmosphere and in space on pretty much all craft are things that look a lot like jet engine exhaust with afterburners, or rocket engines.
it would probably look like toys on a wire if there were no such effects and that’s probably the real answer there, but is there a ginned up explanation as to why forward propulsion requires rear mounted rocket looking stuff when they can defy gravity without such?

ill stfu now and enjoy the space opera/western

Yes the repulsorlifts are mounted internally - I imagine around or near (or even part of?) the hyperdrive since it's part of the same technology.

And I've never thought about it but I guess the analogy I would make is like a blimp. The chamber filled with helium lifts the blimp off the ground, but forward propulsion requires the use of propellers.

So the repulsorlifts are like the helium chamber and the ion engines are like the propellers.  As for the "toy on a wire" thing I imagine the idea is that they can some what control the amount of "buoyancy" provided and/or the power of the ion engines and maneuvering thrusters easily overcomes the anti-gravity effects. And I'm sure the idea is that it's not unlike fly-by-wire systems in modern aircraft where powerful computers can monitor and adjust how all of the various systems work together to achieve the desired result.

That's the best I've got. I'm sure some nerds in the corners of the Star Wars internet have a better explanation.

BTW, I think we got at least one more, if not more, new songs than Tulsa. The first two they played tonight were new songs. One I hadn't heard before and it was really good. My only quibble is that we didn't get Via Chicago. Even the song off the country album played more like a Dead & Co song than country. It was quite enjoyable.

Great fucking show as always. Been way too long since I'd seen Wilco proper and not some amalgamation of Tweedy solo projects, etc. Even there set in Charleston last April was lame compared to this. Fucking love these guys. Is it wrong that I'd rather meet and hang with Nels than Jeff?

    jennifer-lawrence-eek.gif

Looks like an awesome show. And yeah Nels on Impossible Germany is hard to beat. At the Tulsa show the other night, it wasn't on the set list originally and they added it, which was awesome. I've never really got why bands do that but was so glad they did. It's like they just chatted for a sec and then Tweedy goes, "we weren't originally going to play this tonight but now we are..." :D

In terms of meeting the guys, my CSB is about 5 years ago Wilco played at the Brady Theater in Tulsa - I think it's literally the only time they played here that wasn't at Cain's.... anyway there's this craft cocktail bar right down the street from it called Valkyrie. Me and a buddy of mine were having a drink there after the show and Pat Sansone just walks in and sits down at the bar.  And clearly nobody else in that bar had any idea who he was so I walked up and just started chatting him up for a few minutes. The dude could have have been any nicer or cooler.

Lol I love that the Star Wars nerds have labeled Chop as the most dangerous droid.

He has roughly 50,019 kills, and he’s tried to kill Ezra twice in season 1 of rebels.

So yeah his lounge was absolutely with bad intentions!

    Fuck yeah.

Chooper is absolutely a sociopath who only thinks of murder all day long.

    I love him so much.

Guess an Uncle Tupelo reunion ain't never gonna happen.

I think a lot of hard-core Wilco fans do not like Kidsmoke for whatever reason. I can't call it commercial because the damn thing is like 10 mins long. Seems like if somebody knows one Wilco song, that's the one they know.

Pretty sure I've mentioned it here before but I was late to the Wilco party. Some of my ex-wife's friends, who I'm still really close with, were hard-core Wilco fans and I went to at least two or three shows in the early/mid 2000's and didn't really know a single song. I just wasn't a fan. A buddy from work burned every Son Volt/Wilco/Uncle Tupelo album he had and I put them in iTunes library and just never really listened to them. For whatever reason, I started listening to them right about the time I was going through my divorce in 2012 and things just clicked for me with them. I'm not sure there's a better back-to-back than "How to Fight Loneliness" and "Via Chicago" on any album that I own. Wilco is a top five band (at least) for me now. I've seen Wilco 6-7 times probably now (maybe more), Jeff Tweedy solo three or four times and Tweedy at least once. I bet the only musician(s) I've seen more are the Old 97's/Ranchero Brothers/Rhett Miller, who I've probably seen 30+ times altogether.

Really excited for the show tonight.

That’s an interesting perspective on Kidsmoke. That wouldn’t be my impression at all… like you said it’s like a 10–minute long krautrock freak out…. I figured it’s the kind of song that ONLY hard-core fans love. Even on AGIB (which is one of their least “accessible” albums for non-fans, IMO) there’s way more “mainstream” sounding songs to my ears, like Hummingbird or The Late Greats or Theologians.

And yeah I’m with you in terms of top bands… they’re in my top 3 as well.  I couldn’t put a number on how many times I’ve seen them… definitely 10+ times, plus I’ve seen Tweedy solo another 3-4 times.

But yeah Old 97’s/Rhett are definitely my “most seen live” act as well. God knows how many times I’ve seen them in the past 30 years… a lot. Basically every time they’ve been in Tulsa, plus shows in Dallas, Austin, KC, Red Rocks, and so on.

Enjoy the show! And yeah definitely be sure and give “Cousin” and “Evicted” a listen because I’m sure they’ll play those. Both good tracks.
