They certainly did benefit from the North schedule rotation that year, but I will admit that they did beat our asses in Stillwater, and that team was not void of talent... it had Zac Robinson, Dez Bryant, Brandon Pettigrew, Kendall Hunter, etc.  (And as a fun trivia point, that was the year of the "I'm a man! I'm 40!" rant.)

And to their credit, they made it to the Orange Bowl and won the thing.

Agreed. One deserves credit for winning even if the regular season schedule allows one to miss Texas and OU. KU had a great year in 2007.

While I can't guarantee LT will have great QBs next decade, I assure you they will in the '30s because of my sons.

No sir, I haven't for about 4 decades. I believe the biggest danger back then was dodging the cows.

    Don't start now.

RIP Cedric! You will be missed!

RIP to his passenger, recent UT graduate Aamna Najam. T&P to family and friends of both. This just sucks. My heart aches for them both.

Let's clear some of this up.  To the best of my knowledge:

    1.  Cedric was driving west in the left lane of westbound 2222, heading away from central Austin towards 360 and his house just beyond

    2.  he had just passed Mesa Drive, which is a stoplight and is thus a reasonably safe entrance/exit to 2222

    3.  Mount Bonnell Road does not cross 2222 in a continuous manner -- the leg heading north from 2222 is farther east (closer to central Austin) than the leg headed south

    4.  as one approaches the north leg of Mount Bonnell Road heading west, there is a significant rise on 2222.  At the top, there is a flashing yellow light which warns of what's over the hill.

    5.  as one crests that rise, it's probably just a couple of hundred yards to the intersection with the north leg of Mount Bonnell Road.  The only traffic control at that intersection is a stop sign for those headed south on MBR, and at that intersection, all they can do is turn left or right onto 2222.

    6.  the minivan involved in the accident was turning left (east, towards central Austin).  The driver probably didn't see Cedric before pulling out because the distance to the crest of the hill is so minimal.  As others have said, a single motorcycle headlight is confusing at best, even if she saw it.  Any excess speed on Cedric's part would just make matters worse.

    7.  the southbound leg of Mount Bonnell Road, at which there is a stoplight, has jack shit to do with this accident.

This article above confirms "high rate of speed".

Agree with all of this. DKR's omission is tough but who do you take off. I'd argue that Dr Tom maybe should come off this list because I don't recall any "innovations" from Dr Tom (and for his bitchassedness towards the end of his tenure, especially towards Texas). The wishbone was a revolutionary offense for its time and DKR deserves far more credit for that. But you could have 5 or 6 other candidates that could replace Dr. Tom just as easily.

The Oregon stuff reads like Nike is a huge sponsor or something. Their helmet design isn't that great and pretty much everyone else on that list (except perhaps the paperclips) should be ahead of Oregon (because this is 150 years of history, not 20). Also the Duck mascot thing is a joke. The article even says its a cheap knockoff of Donald Duck. That should drop it out of the Top 25 or Top 50 altogether.

Tom is hard to take off as his worst record as HC in 25 seasons is 9-3-1.

LOL at Vince. We all know that Johnny Football beating the indomitable Alabama Crimson Tide was the greatest thing to happen since Jesus himself rose from the dead.

Oh shit, you're right. I'll have the editors fix that immediately.

How did College Station make the list?  Have they ever actually been there?

Oregon helmets in the top ten (which version?) is also quite laughable.

The rest seemed pretty good.  ND helmets are blah, but I get the tradition and respect.

I wonder if Austin as a better college town or Austin with better eats will trigger aggy more. Oh wait, or any of the other lists!

  5.
    • Greatest college football game of all time
    • Greatest individual performance
    • Only team with two top ten rivalries
    • 4th best program
    • 4th best mascot
    • 5th best helmet
    • 2nd best restaurants

SI editors are idiots. Those should be ranked higher. And left off DKR the person and the stadium?!?

Panel members approved a tweak to the overtime rules. If a game reaches a fifth overtime, teams will run alternating two-point plays, instead of starting another drive at the opponent’s 25-yard line. This rules change was made to limit the number of plays from scrimmage and to bring the game to a conclusion.

Dumb. I'm surprised they didn't make it a coin toss after 5 OTs. The game now poetically begins and ends with a coin toss.

We reached out to TO, who says he had no idea his stuff was about to be auctioned off, telling us his people had been trying to make contact with the storage company for years but had been getting the runaround.

Calling BS on this here.  How difficult is it to have somebody drive to the place and straighten things out?

Ah, yes the old business practice of trying to stop your customers from paying for your service. Poor TO.

Landry got to start an expansion franchise in 1960. Tends to lead to some poor records.

Jimmy lost all but one game his first year too, maybe that’s the secret.

You are right when answering the question 'why was their record so and so?'  The question I answered was what was their coaching records.

Damn never knew he was that impressive.

How many losing seasons did Lombardi and Landry have in comparison?

Landy had some pretty shitty seasons. Lost every game in 1960 except for a tie! I count 8 losing seasons out of 29.

Lombardi never a losing season in 10 years.

Can’t remember Shula’s Dolphins having a losing record under his tenure, especially during the 70s.

You must have forgotten 1976 and 1988. His only two losing record years out of 33 years.

One interesting thing about the cart is how the columns line up for Super bowl wins.

The last column has more Super Bowl wins (3) than the third column (2)

Just off the top of my head, column 1 has 26 wins and column 2 has 22, right?

Too lazy to count, but if you toss in NFL Championships prior to the SB and AAFC titles, column 3 must beat column 4. Hell, you might not need AAFC titles.
