The key question none of us know the answer to is whether there have been discussions and whether there was a potential deal there or not that the Dems turned down. It is difficult to speculate without knowing the answer, but IF they are just sitting back and not working options in private with moderates, then I believe that is a mistake. Helping a moderate to get back in control helps advance bipartisan legislation.
Whether or not there have been discussions doesn’t matter. Biden thought he had a deal with McCarthy and McCarthy backed out. Any promises of cooperation can’t be trusted so it’s rational to then not help.

Multiple smart people on this thread have argued that the Democrats should just stand by and watch the shit show, believing that it’s damaging the republican party. I just don’t agree.
The Democrats had an opportunity to help elect a speaker who’s only mostly a moron. They should have jumped at the opportunity to help him get over the hump. Things are going to get dangerous from here on out. Trump gains power from this shit show.
It's pretty much game theory to me - a twist on prisoners' dilemma. Yeah, the best outcome for all is to cooperate, but Dems can't trust GOP to keep their word if they supported McCarthy or others. So it's absolutely rational, and the right decision without reliable cooperation, to vote for Jeffries as a block and let the GOP figure it out. Because whatever the outcome comes from that decision, it's better than getting shivved by the Republicans after trying to help the less crazy wing of their party out.

100% of this is on McCarthy from a cause-and-effect standpoint. He was ready to throw in against Trump, it seemed, after 1/6/2021, but then flew to MAL and bent the knee. Everything we are seeing is pretty much preordained from there.

Las is prolly going back to England asap. Even the championship would be a huge leap over some bogus MLS next league and they’re not sitting Stuver until he retires. I only care about keeping Gally, Seba, Owwenn, Dani, Valencia, Kolmanic, and Stu. Everyone else can get fucked including the front office.
The new front office? I mean, they haven’t done anything yet we can see results from, and this was a wasted season for the new guy. Ownership? Yeah. Ok. I can agree with you some there. Ownership does need to realize that another season like this one in the Texas heat and other than the north end and the AC controlled club in the Lexus seats, it’s going to be a pretty empty stadium. I am pretty sure Austin will be a lot more like L.A. football than Portland if there isn’t a good product on the field.

Will this be able to stand up in court?
So violate the commerce clause in the language of the ordinance? I’d say bold strategy but except, y’know, this SCOTUS.

In for 713. Cmon, Tuck!

I have this weird optimistic vibe that we may see a season like the Cavs two years ago. The west is probably too tough for that but if I got good odds on >40 wins I might take that bet from a value perspective. There are so many dudes on this team that could be playoff lineup players and at least 3 that have all star potential.
i probably ruined everything now.

Maybe he got it right after the game, but Pressly needs some love.
Getting asked to come in that situation, one that he was completely unprepared for and hardly ever asked to do (get three outs with two inherited runners)…. And then come back out and finishing the job.
He earned that win.
that’s my closer.
Man, I I’d love not to need him tomorrow for the right reasons.

Catching up. Anyone that thinks he was trying to hit Adolis is a fucking idiot. Down one, one on, 8th inning game five, tie series. Yeah. Make it harder it come back. Adolis got our pitcher and manager ejected by being a fucking hothead. Fuck him.

If I am Emmer or anyone running, I condition it on removing the single rep right to move to vacate, which is why we won't have a speaker for very long. I am curious if you asked Matt Gaetz what he thought would happen when he ousted McCathy what he'd say he expected to happen. I halfway think this is exactly what he wanted.

Juxtapose that with Biden from last night. The lack of self-awareness with Gym and friends. Man.

I am sure it is upthread somewhere, but killing the shift has to have really reduced Framber's effectiveness. Some of those singles he is giving up get swallowed up in the shift.

so, um, now what?

Are they having floor debates before the next vote? I can't watch right now. I really wish someone would bring up the Ohio St. wrestling stuff. Not sure why they all dance around it given the wrestlers' public statements. Let's just add more fuel to this shitshow if he eventually gets voted in.

I was looking at IMDB and doesn’t seem like they cast Chris (the youngest). I guess that is just too fucking much for the average person to bear.

Wild how 3 of too 5 teams in League 2 were just promoted to League 2 in last 2 years. The 2021 promotions are in last place and back in the National League.

I dunno. And I have no idea if this is German A team or not. but outside some laziness on back line it seems like we are holding our own.

This. They'll figure it out eventually.
There are diminishing returns on these stunts. It's all on the GOP to get this done. It's one thing to be obstructionist against the Democrats but quite another to be so against your own party. At some point the act wears thin and they'll be under pressure from their constituents to get this done.
I presume that if they get all 217 they won't call for a roll call vote to avoid the chance someone gets cute.

Have no fear! Sheridan will just write, direct and produce by himself!!
We started watching this show last month. It’s good enough. But fucking Taylor Sheridan needs to allow someone to give him notes on occasion. Just some help on the fact checking and making sure the plot ties together/motivations make sense. That’s what writer’s rooms are for.

I don't know why people thing that Emmer would have been an effective speaker given this insane caucus. And I don't know why people thing that this East-East Texas Christo-fascist is going to get anything done either. The dems did exactly what they should have done. And now they can hold the fact that those in Biden districts that supported Emmer are now on record supporting this d-bag.
