Took my GF 45 min to drive from our house here on NPI to the Bluff (she teaches/coaches at FB HS).
I think I'll stay working from home, thank you.
I did see on the Facebook that at least one person has lost a NICE palm tree. That sucks. Those are EXPENSIVE to replace.
Apparently the wind was whipping the rain around bad enough that my Nest doorbell camera told me there was a person at my front door (it's pretty recessed from the wind). It didn't even do that during Hanna...

I just got a haircut today and every station had a cute little picture with statement "Cash Tips Preferred".
I always tip well for haircuts because, well, idk, but they're making me look less ugly so I figure they deserve it.
So, I did the cash tip instead of the tip on the CC payment. Figure they get to keep more of it AND they don't have to pay as much in taxes because taxation is theft!!!!!

Great. That’s exactly what we fucking need here.
Dad just said that the name will be the "Beach Bum".
Original, I know.
I told him to tell them that they need to have GOOD food there. Maybe that will differentiate it AND give y'all something decent to eat.

Why was tip included?
Also I got the tip screen when paying for golf at another course today. Had never seen this until two weeks ago now two of last 3 places have it.I'm only tipping for golf if the beer wench shows me titties...
Hers, preferably.

If he finds out more, I'll post it here.

Looking for some flight advice and this seems like the catch-all thread for this stuff.
Flying home from Sardinia in a couple of weeks. Flight booked on Aeroitalia from Olbia (OLB) to Rome (FCO) with a 3h55m layover at FCO before catching my next flight on AA from FCO to DFW (nonstop). Aeroitalia now emails me to say their flight schedule changed and will be 2.5 hours later, so my layover in Rome is now only 1h25m.
In my mind, that is not enough time to comfortably make the connection. We are not checking bags and there is no customs, but I would be switching airlines and the second flight is international, so that makes me nervous. Also, there is always the possibility of the Aeroitalia flight getting delayed on the day of travel, which wouldn't be a huge concern with a 3h55m layover, but could easily screw me on a 1h25m layover.
I contacted Aeroitalia and they don't give a shit. I asked for a refund so I could book a different flight and they said no. My ticket was nonrefundable and apparently EU regulations allow flight schedule changes of up to 3 hours before they are required to offer a refund, so they are within that limit.
I'm thinking my best bet is to eat the cost of the Aeroitalia flights (was about $400) and book new flights on a different airline. It kind of irritates me on principle, but I don't think I'll win that argument unless they happen to issue another delay that puts them over the 3 hour limit. I'm also thinking that 1h25m window is too narrow for comfort, but I've been burned on delayed flights quite a bit lately, so I'm probably a tad paranoid at this point.
What say the surly travel pros?
Book a refundable flight for that leg. If you make your original flight, cancel it and you've got flight credit. If you don't, you were going to eat the cost of the original ticket anyways and you still have a good flight to get you home...

I don’t think some of y’all understand how the Port A economy works. Nobody can afford to open a restaurant on the water for fine dining anymore and even if they could you can’t staff it with quality people. Thus, you end up with places like Virginia’s, Grumbles, and FINS (which is way underrated by the way). You would not believe the sales numbers of those places.
Also it did have the best seafood restaurant on the water for years - Pelican Club. Sadly, dining options here in town aren’t what they were 10 years ago with the loss of that restaurant and Marcel’s.
For fine dining, Venetian Hot Plate is in a class by itself here. Lisabella’s is probably second but way overpriced. Same problem with Phoenix. Roosevelt’s is hit and miss. I really enjoy the dining at Black Marlin but it’s a little more casual than those places. Their new building will be interesting to see what they do with.
edit- when the new marina gets built at Charlie’s pasture we hopefully will see a wharf style shop/restaurant venue out there.
Where is that?

Government assumes waiters make at least ten percent of sales on tips. So the waiter can’t just say “everyone stuffed me today I only made 20.00). Now most people are tipped on cc not cash anyway but that 10% is what restaurants will make waiters claim , minus what they share with the hostess , basset and food runner.
I remember Ruth’s Chris used to prepay waiter taxes. Generally you get a higher level service at del Frisco vs Chili’s.
I will say the only thing missing from the service at Per Se to make it 100% perfect was a fluffer to end the evening...

Yes, Admirals Club and reciprocal airline lounge access for cardmember plus spouse and children under 18, or two guests. Same privileges, minus reciprocal airline lounges, apply for authorized users.
Used to be a killer deal compared to a standalone AC membership, but they just announced a major hike in the annual fee and will begin charging for authorized users ($450 -> $770 for myself + 3 others). AC membership is like $850 these days though, so it’s still a net win.
Woah...didn't know that. Looks like my fee is going from $450 to $595. I think the AC fee used to be $650 and now it's $825 (I'm Gold so there's a HUUUUGE discount from $850).
I may not renew the card now. I have an AMEX Platinum so I can get in the AMEX lounges which seem to be nicer in the places that I've been. It was hard to justify at $450...

Yeah if the beach in Corpus was that nice it would be the most expensive real estate in TX 😆
Apparently the Nueces County Appraisal District thinks it is based on my property tax bill this year...

There are inefficiencies associated with accepting cash, too. Bank runs, more accounting, employee time, employee hand in the till, etc.
Anyway, I’m not paying 50K bills that I could ACH, which I get. I’m looking to drop a hundred bucks on dinner on vacation and like most normal people I don’t walk around with stacks of cash in my wallet. Businesses and consumers survived and thrived without this bullshit. Build it into your costs. Stop pretending that it’s anything other than a way to buttfuck clients who don’t carry cash (first) and to likely increase the amount of income that isn’t easily trackable (second).
I figured that second bit out really quickly at one place where I paid by debit and demanded they take the charge off. They first had to go get the manager who tried to argue (it was on their sign that debit didn’t incur a fee) and then she stared daggers at me as she took the fee off.
And yeah…at least one other place just lost all my business when I saw the little sign). I imagine establishments that cater to regulars and not one-time tourists will be less likely to do it, too.
If it's built into the cost, then then CASH payer is the one who gets buttfucked. They're paying a the cost of a fee they didn't incur. The CC user is just paying the fee that was incurred and that fee is "built into the costs". And if that fee is charged ON the CC bill, it's VERY easily tracked. And if they charge it to debit users, that's not really any different than your solution of building it into the costs.
I'd rather they tell me about the fee and let me know I have a choice to avoid it.

I’m back in TX for a bit of a vacay and may be relocating stateside for a stint. But yes.
I get that vendors don’t love it, but if I’m at a place that charges 20 and up a plate on average with the family— yeah, I want to pay with card. Not as much points as just not carrying cash around.
The math isn’t hard to figure out what portion of your customers pay by card and then charge accordingly, build that shit into your prices. I fucking hate the fee thing, especially if it’s not well posted because it’s part of the whole grifting, never tell you the real price of stuff bullshit economy. I also suspect many places prefer cash to “save” elsewhere in their business model than CC fees.
And this trip I’ve already turned around a left a place when I saw that notice. Your stuff better be unique or awesome or I’ll go down the road. I wonder what that math is.
But, if they add that extra 3% to the price, then even cash buyers have to pay that fee. By breaking it out, only the people that will incur that charge have to pay it.

SW, least in my experiences, has a sporadic and arbitrary pattern of comping drinks (not asking for credit cards). I'm obviously not complaining when it occurs but on some occasions the flight attendants are rigid on collecting and charging a card and in some cases, like last night coming home from Baltimore, they didn't even bother. We had four total drinks. Flight was on time, so they weren't trying to compensate for that.
You'd been in Baltimore. They were sympathy drinks...

always go with green chiles over red
I will say that the red chile in the south around Las Cruces/Mesilla Valley is different and better than the red chile as you go farther north in the state.
I lived in Las Cruces back in the 90s (worked at WSMR) and made several trips north. I found it weird that the red was different but the green didn't seem to be.
That said, if you're in Las Cruces, go to Nopalitos. And head to La Mesa and eat at Chope's.
Old Mesilla is kinda interesting but skip La Posta. It's gringo tourista food that's living off the reputation of a Life Magazine article written in the 70s...

Pastabilities in Syracuse...their hot tomato oil and stretch bread was great. The Wicked chicken riggies were as well.
Pizzalchick in Boise...not bad.
Chef Point Cafe in Watauga...REALLY tasty...in a gas station.
Taste of Europe in Arlington...not bad, nothing special though.
I'd like to try more of them...
