Lulz. Yes, it’s the real Four Seasons account. Maybe Mossad needs to look at Four Seasons Landscaping?

I think the Four Seasons is saying "Please don't blow up our hotel!!!"

Which side would be motivated to attack the evacuation corridor?

Hamas’ continued existence requires civilians and framing israel to gin up international outrage. It’s their only play at this point.

On another sad note, Suzanne Somers died today.  Not in the bombing, though.

There are lots of possible explanations. They are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

    1) Russia helped plan the attack to increase their chances of winning in Ukraine

    2) Hamas wanted untraceable money and used crypto so it couldn't be easily traced

    3) A Russian crypto was the only viable avenue that Hamas could use for international funding

    4) Russia wasn't involved directly but saw an avenue to spread unrest

    5) It was a regular occurrence that just happened to coincide with the attack

    Are there more possibilities?

It was a good time at Shorty’s. Surprisingly not that crowded considering it was the eclipse and the Pig Party but we left fairly early so maybe it got busier. Round 2 starts this afternoon at the house. Fajitas and margaritas with some good friends.

I think all the idiots just stopped on NPI and didn't drive the rest of the way to Port A...

Did it ever clear up?   My plan was to be there but an urgent work project popped up and I’m working my first Saturday in forever…

Clouds kinda broke here on NPI.  I had a great view of it from the backyard.

I assume it was clear a few miles north at Port A.

I guess this might be the best place for this so...
I'll be up in Santa Clara in a few weeks.  It seems like most of the recs here are for up in SF but since they're connected...
I'll be staying at the Marriott right next to Levi's Stadium.  What's good in that area?
I'll be a conference every day all day so I probably won't feel like heading all the way into SF after that...I'm getting too old for that shit.  But, maybe I could be convinced.

Blackened ribeye at Birk's is damn good and very close to your hotel

That looks great...Gonna blow past my per diem but I'm not going to care.  And you're right.  It is RIGHT by my hotel.

I don't need tie and jacket do I?  I'm not planning on taking those on this trip.

Most underrated part of the city and it’s not close. Most parts of it aren’t dangerous, it’s surprisingly hilly and has a few nice older neighborhoods. Southside lions park has some nice views.

    Which parts are dangerous, please???

I love SA but don't expect much from the southeast side. It's a shit hole.

I didn't expect that it had improved a ton from when I lived on the NE side in HS in the 80s but, I thought MAYBE?????

Exactly - I always tell people flying AA is a little bit like living in a rigid caste system. It's miserable at the bottom and pretty great at the top.

I'm usually Gold or Platinum, so no Brahmin goodies for me, but Vaishya ain't THAT bad...

Plus I've got the MC Exec card to get into the AA Lounges so I've got that going for me.

  11. I'm going to be up for a business trip in a few weeks and staying on the SE side of town next to Brooks City-Base.  What's some good stuff in that area?

I'm going to go see my Dad out at Medina lake before the work starts so I've got some stuff planned with him out at the lake but will probably just eat around my hotel during my conference.

I will miss going to Jacala with my Dad though.  That was always a go to trip when I'd come up to visit.  He literally grew up a few blocks from there so he's been going since the 50s.

So who gonna be in Port A for the eclipse Oct 14th?

My organization will be out there helping to support a team that will be doing data measurements with balloons prior to and during the eclipse.  We'll be providing airspace support for them.  This will be out at Padre Balli on NPI.  Don't think we'll have any UAS up and flying but you never know.

I'm not involved in that operation (I'm in charge of engineering, not ops), but I'll probably head out to view it from the park since it's 2 min from my house.

This week, Delta Air Lines announced sweeping changes to frequent-flier perks that will start in 2024. While the airline says its revamped system has “simplified” the SkyMiles program for repeat customers, it’s actually dealing a significant blow to the middle class of travelers, inciting outrage on social media and promises from some to quit flying Delta altogether.

In a Tuesday announcement, the Atlanta-based airline detailed how it would make it much more difficult to earn coveted Medallion status. Simultaneously, it plans to take away unlimited access for American Express cardholders to its Sky Club lounges, some of the swankiest in the United States.

The array of changes includes how fliers earn Delta frequent-flier status. An annual spending requirement — what the airline calls “Medallion Qualifying Dollars” (MQDs) — will now become the sole elite metric. Starting Jan. 1, Delta is also massively increasing requirements — in some cases doubling the amount of money customers had to spend to achieve the same elite level this year.

Under the new conditions, to hit the entry-level Delta Silver Medallion tier, a traveler would need $6,000 in MQDs, up from $3,000 today. And to reach top-tier Diamond Medallion status? Well, that would require an eye-watering $35,000 in MQDs, a 75 percent increase from the current $20,000 threshold.

Delta’s elite status isn’t the only thing getting a giant overhaul. Starting in February 2025, the airline will begin to restrict Amex cardholders from its swanky Sky Clubs — limiting entries to up to 10 per year.

There’s no softening this one: A move away from unlimited entry is a massive downgrade from unlimited Sky Club access, a long-standing premium credit card perk that both Amex and Delta heavily advertised to cardholders.

For years, Amex touted its Global Lounge Collection, which includes Centurion Lounges and Delta Sky Clubs, as the “largest in the world.” Platinum cardholders have access to more than 1,400 airport lounges across 140 countries, American Express says. In the process of acquiring more customers, the supply of lounge space couldn’t keep up with demand.

Amex and Delta are essentially victims of their own success. Now, we may be finally seeing the end result, reverting back to a time when these pre-departure spaces were more exclusive.

Under the new rules, travelers with the popular $695-per-year Amex Platinum, for instance, will only receive six entries to Sky Clubs per year when traveling on the airline.

The one exception to all of this? Spending a cool $75,000 on the card in a calendar year grants you continuous access for the rest of that year and the following year.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2023/09/15/delta-changes-miles-lounges-status-hackers/

For the spending, you get 1 MQD for every $10 on the AMEX Delta Reserve and 1 MQD for every $20 with the other AMEX Delta cards.  So, trying to do it entirely by spending is damn hard - That's $120K of spending to get to just Silver potentially.

  14. More info from my Dad on the new bar.  Looks like it's going to be a sports bar...which would have been really helpful to Austinvines this weekend.

It's going to be at the corner of E Cotter and N Station (232 E. Cotter).

What was it that used to be there @justhookit?

I've included a pic of the sign for the bar...

We are here this weekend and our rental has Spectrum so won’t have the game. Any ideas on a decent spot for dinner that will have the game?

    Stingrays should have it.
