  1. Quinn Ewers, QB

When asked why he wore a glove during pre-game: “Early in the week I had my nail on my pointer-finger kind of lifted off the nail bed, but you know, obviously nothing crazy. It didn’t affect my throws. No excuses.”

I mean, for myself, I think this shows that I could practice better. Because that’s what it boils down to; practice habits turn into game habits. And you know, I think Coach Sark does a great job on his practice schedule and what-not. And, you know, he’ll do whatever it takes. Yeah, overall, I think I just need to practice better and execute better on the field.”

It is probably just playerspeak when asked about why the team lost, but still interesting.  It could explain why they looked out of sync, if they hadn't put in enough work to understand what they were expecting the Ok State defense to do and what the gameplan/reads were.

Our corners allowed a combined 3 completions on Saturday. Tech's outside receivers did nothing. We are playing tighter coverage with the corners.

All their damage went to slot receivers, tight ends and running backs.

Odd considering we have the potential to put Overshown and Barron on the inside receivers.

Our OL continues to be above average pass blocking and very below average run blocking. Still seems strange to me.

Unfortunately, we can’t take advantage of the pass blocking until Ewers comes back.

Specifically for the UTSA game were the DL doing a lot of stunts or lateral movement at the snap, so the guys either missed assignments or didn't have the angle they were expecting?

  4. ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)

Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:

    • Launch-a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
    • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
    • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
    • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

The highlighted part is why the Overshown hit should not have been targeting.  It was incidental and nothing beyond that which was required to make the tackle.

  5. To me on the last UTSA drive I thought they were content to run the ball and end the game, but then they ended up throwing the ball and trying to score and we were blitzing rather than playing back.  It wasn't clear which side escalated first, but I assumed that was what their conversation was about.

  6. When are we going to hear about the impact of Gary Patterson?  When they announced the hire I thought there was a 60% chance that he was going to come in and his ego and general assholeness was going to undermine Sark and cause disruptions and eventually the whole thing would implode, and a 40% chance that his competitiveness was going to drive him to positively influence the program in multiple areas, so he could triumphantly rub our (his) success in everyone's face.  What I gave 0% chance to was him coming in and working 9-5 and just doing a little recruiting and self scouting and not being heard from at all.  Surely there has to be more going on behind the scenes?

The article addresses this.  The player signed a NIL contract with this collective.  If the kid goes elsewhere, he can't accept NIL money at the new school...since his NIL "rights" are owned by the collective.

Think of it as the Big 12 Grant of Rights.

But wouldn't he still be owed the rest of the 8 million?

The way I am reading this is the collective is going to arrange for him to, for example, do commercials for the Knoxville Ford dealership.  The rationale is he will be a popular Tennessee football player, and so the dealership will pay the collective for his services and everyone wins.

Let's say he decides to transfer to Hawaii.  The collective would still own his NIL and would still have to pay him, but presumable the Knoxville Ford dealership would no longer be interested in his services.  The collective would have to try to find someone in Hawaii that wants to work with him, and the assumption is the collective doesn't have any existing ties to businesses outside of Knoxville so would be very difficult to find deals.

What am I missing?  It says the collective can only terminate for breach of confidentiality or bad behavior.

  8. I actually go the other direction and weigh myself everyday.  It is true that it jumps around, and can plateau for days, and can change based on diet and hormone levels.  Because of that I record it every day in a spreadsheet, and then setup a trendline using a couple weeks of data.  I will tell you it is really cool whenever you estimate BMR, and make a plan and control food intake, and are rewarded with a trendline that matches what you were trying to do.

I should have elaborated. I am very confident that we can find a way to establish the NIL baseline for the roster, with comp stepping up for contributors and for the stars. As y'all pointed out, not explicitly tied to performance, # of snaps etc. But since NIL value is highest for stars, it will not be hard to accomplish a system that rewards the players on the field over backups or youngsters. Huck mentioned player-specific deals on top of the roster NIL baseline, which works fine and no doubt there are other ways to skin the cat i.e. create proper incentives while staying compliant.

    Still no
