  1. I was totally shocked when he got the GOP nomination in 2016.  I thought surely GOP leadership would prevent a New York rich boy draft dodging philandering bankrupt serial liar from rising to the top of their party.

I was very, very, very surprised when he beat Clinton.  I was certain Americans would show some sense and reject his nationalism and racism.

I was very, very surprised that once he became president, his tone did not change at all and at how divisive and ineffective he was.  I thought his pre-election persona was an act, and that once he took office he would somewhat straighten up.  I didn’t expect him to grow into the role, I just didn’t expect him to be nearly as divisive, corrosive, and inflammatory as he’s been.

I was very surprised when covid hit that he bungled the response so badly.  I couldn’t imagine anyone doing a that bad of a job.  I really didn’t think he was that stupid.

I was surprised that the election was so close.  I am mildly surprised that he has not conceded defeat.

The last 5 years has really lowered my opinion of our country.  But in hindsight, all of this was a pretty predictable outcome following the election of black president.

I'm not sure how this all plays out, but he's making it nearly impossible to just let him fuck off to his golf courses for the rest of his life. If he keeps this up there will be no other choice than to put him away for inciting riots and straight up treason. Like literally treason if he keeps this up after Jan 20.

I’m here.  From where I sit, whoever is on the wrong side of this has committed treason.  If there really is (against all evidence and likelihood) fraudulent/illegal/miscounted votes, everyone involved should be punished to the maximum degree, including Biden if he knew about it and claimed victory.  But if there was no fraud (as it appears), Trump and all of his enablers should be convicted of treason and punished accordingly.  This shit is serious.

One tactic Trump might use is to simply stall all the close states to prevent Biden from getting 270 EV by Dec 14.  At that point the House would decide the presidency, but by delegation instead of popular vote.  The current delegation favors Trump 26-23 (PA is tied), so in that scenario Trump would be made President.  Even that is not a guarantee for Trump, as delegations might not go purely along party lines, and the vote doesn’t take place until after the new Congress is in place.  If by some chance the House vote ends in a tie, the Senate then names the VP as President; that scenario also currently favors Trump/Pence, although subject to the same caveats as the House vote.  Ensuring battleground states (NH, PA, AZ, MI, MN, WI) resolve their recounts/issues and submit their EV for Biden timely should definitely be part of Biden’s priorities and planning.  Crazy shit.

    This still scares me.

  4. Listen to Andrew Yang.

Pour resources into Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Austin, Columbus, Madison, Philly, and Phoenix.

Give airtime to young leaders (they are doing an ok job at this).

After this is all said and done, someone out there is going to do an analysis of what Tuesday night would have looked like had the mail-ins and early votes been counted as they came in, and that whole batch was dumped the instant polls closed in each state.

My guess is that the election would have been called for Biden by midnight, but I can't wait to read the analysis when someone puts it together.

What’s crazy is that a lot of people will say Trump only lost because of covid.  That it tanked his glorious economy and allowed for voter fraud.  But I think the opposite may be true.  Crises help incumbents.  And this particular one kept those who would vote against the incumbent at home, while stirring up his base.  Had covid not been a thing, the election may have been called early, and the gap may have been wider.

So when do the Trumpkins start freaking out and hurting people?

I mean, they saw leads evaporate late in several states that are gonna end up for Biden.  They're gonna be told it was last minute shenanigans, and they're gonna believe it.

Does it get bad tonight?  This weekend?

I don’t think it will happen until fox calls the election.  At which point Trump’s reaction will likely determine how much violence there is.

They’re not doing a damn thing en masse.  The more obvious it becomes that dipshit will lose by several states, the quicker everyone will start jumping off his bandwagon.  The crazies I know are already crying in their fruity pebbles.
One idiot firing shots is actually the worst thing that can happen for them.

I consider this a wildly optimistic take considering how things have unfolded over the last 72 hours.

  8. I think at this point you have to assume the current EV count is 253-232, with 26 of Biden’s in expected recount (MI, WI) and 15 of Trumps (NC).  There are 53 EV still undecided (NV, AZ, GA, PA), with Biden favored by a razor thin margin and all of them likely headed for a recount.

Realistic Best case scenario: All 4 states finish up today and Biden wins them all.  Trump tells his radicals to stand down and wait for the recounts/lawsuits.  Early next week the recounts are done, the SC punks him, and he concedes.

Realistic worst case scenario: Trump overtakes in Arizona and holds Georgia.  Trump continues to stoke violence in PA, NV, and MI.  Violent protests erupt across the country.  The SC overturns PA.  The US is for all intents and purposes, a dictatorship.

Most likely case: Trump wins NV or GA.  Biden wins the others.  Trump halfway tells his fucksticks to stand down.  Sporadic violent protests break out.  Trump loses in the courts.

  9.  Odds for Biden down to -525 now, roughly half what they were at yesterday’s peak.  He’s up to -240 in GA and -450 in PA but down to -290 in AZ.

Trump’s messaging today is very important.  There are right wing extremists mobilizing in every contested state.  If Trump riles up his base, we could be fucked.  If the weekend gets here and Trump hasn’t explicitly urged calm, things could explode.

Every state needs to have their fucking votes counted by the end of today, so that at a minimum people know the outcome and Trump can either concede or tell his followers to stand down and let the lawsuits play out.

    This is fucked.

  10. This election solidified my opinion that the country is still very racist.  If the Democrats want to have success over the next 10-15 years, they need to shift the conversation away from race and toward class.  They need to figure out how to merge movements like BLM into a more general conversation about wealth inequality resulting in legislation for increased minimum wages, universal healthcare, increased subsidization for home ownership, and further subsidized college, as I think there is broad support for all of those things, even in rural areas.  They should abandon losing conversations around gun control and abortion.  Climate change can be a winner if they reframe it as a means to reduce unemployment and make established energy economies more sustainable and profitable.

With the current voter spread social issues are a mirage that tanks.  People are voting with economic prosperity as their overriding priority.
