  1. Here’s a small CSB for visiting Baylor as a child. My Dad coached a player, Ricky Hendrix, that was a LB back in the Walter Abercrombie era. After watching them beat aggy in the pouring down rain, Ricky and Walter both walked me to see the Bear Pen, where they kept the live bears.
They were buddies/roommates! All Ricky said was this guy with us is “special!”

I’ll never forget that and rooted for WA for the Eagles, even though I was a Cowboys fan.

  2. As a child, I remember SMU playing Texas in the Cowboys Stadium during the Pony Express era.

As a child, I thought that that was an advantage, as the ponies got to play in an NFL stadium.

Later on, in 82 I think, had the Cotton Bowl with SMU vs Pittsburgh, basically in their home town, my Dad and a group of his players from DeSoto went to the Cotton Bowl FCA Breakfast, hosted by Tom Landry the morning prior to the game, in the end zone suite area of Texas Stadium. As a child, I came back to my Dad/table so excited that I got the whole Pony Express to autograph my program for the event, but all my Dad said was “great son, but you see that curly haired tall guy talking to the reporters and cameras, go get his!” The tall guy was Dan Marino! I still have that FCA program with two HOFs and CJK5H’s autograph.

I won the “door prize” for the event, which included all of the ‘82 Cowboys autographs, presented by Coach Landry. I still have the ball.

  3. Coastal Carolina has been in my head since BYU made that mid-week decision to go play them on short notice. Both teams had fewer than two losses. It was awesome and the Teal team won in the end, but props to BYU saying “F it” we’ll go.

  5. My wife asked me Sunday why I was wearing my “Bijan Mustardson” shirt this past Sunday, even though she knows I’m a Cowboys fan? All I can tell her is Bijan is “Special” and I’d still root for him to have a great game vs the Cowboys!

The Brock’s can F themselves choosing Bama originally. I’m also a son of a team that won a National Championship at Texas. Being a “local” player and looking elsewhere, while in HS, then good luck to you kid! Don’t come back crying for playing time, at the Mother Ship!

  7. Park downtown on the other side of the highway. Plenty of free parking. A handful of sports bars over there to watch the 2:30 games. It’s a 25 min walk to the stadium, there’s a shuttle if you’d rather

If you get there early enough, Chip and Joanna’s “Magnolia Square” is just West of 35 and the Baylor campus. Short walk after eating an early brunch/lunch and buying shiplap type “creative” things, according to my wife! Last trip to the UT @ Baylor game, she insisted that we took my truck, just in case she saw a “larger” item in the touristy area. So I asked her who’d be watching our truck while we’re at the game - so I won!

The only thing North of the river is the Bidet on the Brazos and a Track & Field complex.
