  1. Cool story Brojangles - like any MF function in SE/East Texas! Most of the people seen wearing the gawd awe full maroon, never stepped foot in the brain washing portal of B/CS.

I took my daughter (no pics) to SFA’s orientation two weeks ago. Took after Mom and couldn’t get into UT, but has transfer hopes (thanks Dad). I was amazed at the amount of aggy apparel - kids and parents!

My daughter chose SFA for some reason, but by God it isn’t aTm East! I live 5+ hours drive time from that campus, but she likes it?
All the campus towns we drove through, excluding B/CS, I informed her we would’ve already been there if she’d chose that school. It’s just money - and it ain’t hers!

  2. I recently joined, now that both of my kids are in or about to be in college. I always wanted to be a FB official, but couldn’t justify it until they were out of the “nest”.

I’ll be the “new” guy this year and get all the sub-varsity games during the week, for experience and all.

Is there anyone here (state wide) that is a current TASO official?

  3. As a child, living in the Dallas area, I loved the Purple People Eaters, and the Minnesota Vikings! Maybe it was their all-white uniform, because it seems as if they were always on the road?

I saw them play the Cowboys, in the playoffs, around ‘77 , and my Dad and I drank our thermos of hot chocolate before the game even started! Roger and the Boy’s won the game. Around early in the 3rd, a guy sitting a couple rows down from us, in a Snow Man costume, caught himself on fire! I guess spilt liquor, in combination of needing a cigarette caused it. It was on TV, according to my Mom, who asked us afterwards.

  4. Back in the 60s they played both ways. Many don’t know that Nobis stepped on the field a an OG, prior to LB.

Imagine getting blocked by him in practice and then all of a sudden, you have to block him!

My Dad only played on ST during the season, but received over 50+ stitches around his face/head while on the 40. All occurred during practice - and yes they had face masks.

  5. Used to live in Lake Charles and every year Cameron Louisiana held a “fur festival” and it was for nutria. God awful beasts, they will show their orange “beaver teeth” and come at you! Very aggressive varmit that needs to be put down!

  6. Late eighties and after a high school golf tournament, my team stopped for a meal close to downtown Houston. Teammate ordered a baked potato and asked the waitress for sour cream. He, not fluent in Spanish said “leche”, so she brought him some milk. We looked at him as he was dumbfounded as to the delivery of milk for his baked potato, so he said no, no “muy mal leche” - (trying to get some sour cream), so she brought him a glass of chocolate milk!

  7. I should’ve prefaced the “backwards golf” theory for those who consistently shoot in the upper 90s and above, and that’s quite a large % of golfers.

The whole premise is to find a “comfortable” iron to hit into a green, 7-PW, and go from there. The added emphasis is on scoring, which is chipping and putting!

I’ve dealt with teenagers “practicing“ at the range and you rarely see them in a practice bunker or chipping at the practice green. That’s where over 50% of your strokes add up, but no, it’s not as fun as beating balls from the tee.

  8. I carry a Kershaw “Speed Safe” almost daily.
Very easy to open, if needed, but a big enough blade for any need.

I carry it daily to open shit, as well as for protection, but it’s slim profile fits nicely for me.

  9. My son had to mow over the weekend, because his “fat, old Daddy can still beat him in an 18 hole round.

Mrs. MSU always says to let him win! I’m like F - No, he’s going to earn it, even if I’m in my 60’s!

They do make the little bastards play from the back tees in their HS tournaments, and he sees it at an advantage if I tee up more forward, so I tee with him!

He’ll only play forward if asked to play with others, over the weekend, but not if it’s just me!

For any “novice” player - chipping and putting is the key!! If you can get up and down for par or bogey, that’s the key to scoring in golf!

On 18 holes, if all were par-4s, it only takes two to get on in regulation, so subtract your next score from 36 and tell me that chipping and putting doesn’t count!
