  1. That was really illuminating, braff. I had no idea. Btw Who TF is asking you to root for Baylor or penn state?

Even the biggest Baylor haters have to admit the losers that take the time to post nothing except “Fuck Baylor” or rape humor ad nauseum make the board stale and predictable.

Shaggy used to be clever, especially when making fun of other teams. It’s sad.

Is it my imagination or did it happen when we moved from shaggy to surly? It seemed to survive the jump from shaggybevo to shaggyTexas but not to surly. Has there ever been a thread to discuss that?

  2. My husband has really gotten into his Blackstone, now making dinner multiple nights a week. He loves to experiment and tweak recipes, so I thought I’d make or buy him a journal/cookbook to document his experiments.

Any recs? What would you want in something like this? I only cook from my laptop so I can’t really imagine writing notes on paper. I definitely want it to have tabs and pockets—what else?

  3. 6)  Though we didn't stick around for the encore, that rendition of About Today was pretty fucking incredible and (despite the efforts of point 5 above) a great finish for us.

You missed out. It was so great. Ended with acoustic crowd only unison of vanderlyle with Matt leading us like a choir director.

  4. Good show, a third of it was really great. Venue and crowd sucked. One of my favorite bands, but Matt may have the most limited vocal range of anyone I’ve ever seen live, maybe 6 notes before he gets really pitchy. I absolutely love how The National uses horns. It’s so innovative and adds really amazing depth.

I guess I’m getting old because I really hated smoke detector. Felt like that phrase was in the song twenty times at least.

  5. OP, you’re so brave. I applaud your deeply unpopular stance.

    Oh…fishing for attention

Wouldn’t every single post on every internet message board by definition be a request for attention?

Not sure where this post is giving brave/faux unpopular vibes, or how I’m even supposed to know that there’s an internet consensus about this, but this post is actually about me no longer loving something I used to really enjoy. I came on to give my take on Oppenheimer and realized most of what I was thinking about wasn’t about the film at all.
  6. Uncharacteristically I went to three movies in theatres in the last three weeks. I think I’m over movie theaters.

    - bad behavior from other viewers is increasing, and it’s too much of a gamble that your experience will be ruined. Not only did the guy next to me at mission impossible not silence his phone, he literally answered three calls on it.

    - even normal human behavior is annoying when you’re lying next to a stranger watching a movie. I don’t want to hear a stranger chew or gulp or see him scratch his balls. The recliners are nice but I’d prefer a regular seat that gave me space between strangers.

    - I love my subtitles. I really miss them at the movies.

    - my theatre evidently is infested with Indian meal moths. They’ve been annoying/distracting to varying degrees at shows in three different rooms.

    - at Oppenheimer tonight, it was so loud it hurt my ears and shook my seat. I get that its Nolan’s style, but I need some environmental controls.

All of a sudden I’m old. I actually don’t think going to the movies is too expensive, really. I love movies. Just turning into a hermit I guess.

  7. Fast forward a few years and the kids were talking about phones in class and I said they shouldn't have them out in the classroom. They looked at me like I was regarded and said that the phones were REQUIRED. They had to be able to look up shit and use the calculator. I couldn't believe it.

What grade is this? This is educational malpractice.
