  1. We vacationed at garner last month, and I picked up a novel to read, The Which Way Tree, by Austin’s own Elizabeth Crook. She dedicates the book to her grandparents (I presume they are the original Butts). Turns out the plot takes place pretty near Garner. Then on our way to get supplies we saw the HEButt Foundation Camp north of Uvalde. I’m guessing she spent some time in those hills that served as inspiration. Had no idea when I brought it to read there! Looking forward to the film.

  2. No where else to put this….
My MIL - Her yard man is missing in action.  She’s pissed.  He hasn’t returned calls or texts in 3 weeks.  Odds are currently even that he’s a) died or b) ghosting her bc she’s a miser and probably hasn’t ever paid him a reasonable wage and he’s had it.
She’s treating it like a class B felony and doesn’t know how he sleeps at night bla bla bla.
MIL asked her neighbor (a licensed landscape architect) for a recommendation and he referred her to his guy who has been doing the architect’s yard for 10 years.
She called today to tell us that on our upcoming trip to see her, she wants me to sit in on the “2nd interview”.  She’s “interviewed” him once but wants a follow-up with me there.  The fact that he’s good enough for a landscape architect isn’t enough.
I’m not sure what her interrogation methods will be and how far into his history we’ll dig, but I’m sure she’ll start any wage offer at somewhere below the net cost of the gas required to run the mower.

This was an awesome contribution. I keep thinking about it throughout the day. Please update after the second interview.
  3. I dawned on me today that when HarperCollins multiposts, he doesn't really mean to multipost. What he wants is to share his excitement of a sick meme. What he wants is to bond with the board. What he wants is quality time together. Still, it's a hard no.

    Legit LOL.

Sorry for the multi post. Tapa cray

We go every year to PC/Deer Valley to ski.  We liked Tupelo.  It was much cooler when it was on Main St.  Dont know if there lease expired of if Covid got them, anyway they moved off of Main.  Solid place, not crazy expensive but very good.

Tupelo is serviceable, not fantastic IMHO.

  5. Another thing I didn’t realize my first time around shopping for electricity—the prices change every single day while the plan names stay the same. So there’s no spreading a decision over two days without starting the research over. Might be common sense but I didn’t know that when I started comparison shopping.

  6. i remember looking back then and thinking everything felt high so i'd just wait a little bit.
powertochoose isn't terrible if you turn off the fuckery plans using the option to not show minimum usage charges/whatever.

So true! I was just coming off a 36 month contract paying $.07 and was super pissed about the prices.

Powertochoose is fine. It’s all there if you know your usage. Just a lot of clicking and excel formulas—takes about an hour for me to come to the same conclusion texas power guide gives me in 2 minutes.
  7. SIAP, but I recently grabbed a bottle of Terry Black's Spicy Traditional BBQ sauce from HEB. Closest store-bought equivalent to my beloved City Market sauce. Goes great with ribs.

Every single time I see this brand I smile to myself thinking about my best night in college: beating Kansas on Big Monday. Terry Black went 8/10 with six dunks.

  8. Went to ray lamontagne tonight at the new moody amphitheater—he was great.

One of my favorite songs is we’ll make it through, and he shared tonight that his wife of 25 years has a rare form of muscular dystrophy that will cause her to not be able to open her eyes or swallow. So he wrote that song to comfort both of them.

Amphitheater seats are miserably close together. I sat next to a gym bro whose bicep was completely on top of my arm/chest the whole time. Nice breeze though. How many times do you need to get up and squeeze past me in a less than two hour concert?? /Getoffmylawn
