My son had this album when he was a teenager. Overall, I wasn't impressed, but thought this song was really good, if a bit repetitive.

Contemplating one's mortality as one ages:
And a less serious approach.

July 23rd 1962, the first public TV transmissions over Telstar 1 took place during a special program featuring live shots beamed from the United States to Europe, and vice versa.
Space! The final frontier!

Just finishing up. Very thorough account, with serious research and documentation. I found it a slow read, but probably largely due to my age and difficulties keeping up with so many people.

We buy these when a vegetarian niece is coming to a family gathering. Tasty, even for an old carnivore like me.
I think only available at Central Markets, however.

Watched King Lear. I had never read nor seen a performance of Lear and was very impressed with it. Anthony Hopkins was really great as Lear (no surprise), but I also really enjoyed Jim Carter as Kent. It's done in modern dress and trappings, but Shakespeare's dialog. I found it much easier to follow with closed captions on. It's in widescreen format, so the captions were not over the film view. And Emma Thompson was highly believable as a vile MILF.

I fly the San Jacinto Flag on April 21. My copy is very thin, almost like silk. It's OK to fly outside one day a year, but if anybody knows of a thicker version, please let me know. We also fly the Alamo flag during the siege, and the Gonzales flag on October 2. The neighbors always think we are flying the Mexican flag in late Feb-early March.
Must be Californians.

I fly the Texas Flag and the Longhorn flag at the ranch
I fly the US flag, the Texas flag, and alternate the Longhorn flag and the Port A Strong flags. I also have a copy of Sheridan's San Jacinto flag (see my avatar) but haven't flown it yet. Maybe next April 21.

Here.
I highly recommend the flags from Austin Flag and Flagpole. The one I have flies almost always (24/7 I have a light for it) and in 3 years it's only now starting to rip, and that's 3 years of a lot of wear and tear. In fact, the only reason I'm getting a new one this year (will order just before July 4) is that this one's bleached out. It was so well stitched/constructed that it's avoided fraying or getting holes on the end until just recently.
A 5'X8' is a pretty big flag - make sure whatever it's on can fully support it - those things generate a ton of torque and pull in a wind - they can snap a flagpole pretty easily! I have a 3'X5' which is pretty standard size.Agree on AF&F. I buy their heavy duty US and Texas flags for use at the coast. I think it's called TEXTUFF or something similar. Usually have to replace due to fading before fraying. I get the 3 X 5 and don't know if they do 5 X 8 in that material.

I thought the movie from the eighties with Ralph Macchio looking for Robert Johnson and ending up in a guitar battle with the devil was the real story.
It wasn't?
I would have voted for Ry Cooder over Steve Vai anyday.

watched the robert johnson doc earlier today, always fascinated by the deal with the devil that always surrounded him. good way to spend about 45 minutes, even if you're not a big blues musician fan.
Put on my watch list. Reminded me of the Danny Glover documentary called Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? from '97 that I think I saw on PBS back around that time. Checked around, found on Amazon Prime and added to that watchlist to see again.

Grandson is going through his ordeal for OA ( Tonkawa Lodge) this weekend. I'm going out on Saturday to watch the ceremony and have dinner with him. Looking forward to it.

All seven seasons available on Britbox. Not sure where else.

Very easy read and very interesting. Not sure yet how he came to the amount of detail. Maybe a little of Edmund Morris' Dutch?

Recently have enjoyed watching British & Australian actors that I am not familiar with in crime/political dramas.....
Completed:
- Secret City 2 Seasons (1st better than 2nd)
- Collateral (ok acting crime drama)
- Bodyguard (ok acting, kinda far fetched story)
Any other suggestions similar on Netflix??
Did you do the netflix original Get Shorty? I'm a fan of Irish actor Chris O'Dowd.
I also watched the Death in Paradise series. A light detective series, with two changes to the main DI character over the seven seasons. Attractive French and Afro/French actresses a plus.

Bill Cody was the most famous of the riders for the Pony Express, then Pony Bob Haslam who once rode 300+ miles in about 30 hours. Rider Billy Tate, age 14, was attacked by Paiute injuns and killed 7 of them in a shootout before being shot dead full of arrows.
Johnny Fry was the first rider. He was later killed at the Battle of Baxter Springs (KS) by members of Quantrill's Raiders.
BTW there is a Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph, MO. Well worth the visit if you're in the area.

Armybrat’s total tuition bill for the fall semester of 1962 was $100 (full load, blanket tax, and just for nothing fees). Books ran another $50-$60, which I thought was an outrageous scam. Gregory Gym was a bit warm, so afterwards I went up the street to Hilberg’s Cafe for a chicken fried steak lunch (side of mashed taters, house salad, and iced tea). 85 Cents.
pre-OUsux days. It was just “fuck OU” then.
Similar in fall of '65. I didn't do any adds or drops, but didn't you have to go to the department office back then for adds and drops?

Just started watching Family Tree from Christopher Guest. Stars Chris O'Dowd, who was great in Get Shorty (on Netflix?). Seems true to Guest form, so if you like his work, you might like this. Only through first episode so far.
Also, being big into genealogy, my wife and I find this particularly amusing.

I miss the local CD Warehouse. I found so many gems in there in their used albums section. People brought all kinds of albums in there to trade in. You never knew what you would find. I was in there every week. The malls all had a record store and sometimes two. Sam Goody was a big one.
I miss the old Ace Record Store on Elm in downtown Dallas in the 60s. Thousands of used Blues and R&B 78s for $2-5. Never could afford much, but could spend hours just looking.

How you know I'm old...
I have since accepted it, but for the longest time, I had a problem with the common use (workplace, tv, etc.) of the word suck. Everyone over the age of 12 (and many younger) should have guessed it was derivative of cocksucking. So It became okay to say "you suck [cock, implied] in any given situation.
I have nothing against cocksucking, but find reference to it inappropriate in most public situations, no matter what language. You work with a lot of old farts?
Rant over.
