Latest item: LDS (Mormons) will be dropping out as Chartered Orgs. effective Dec. 21 2019.
As it is, NO LDS Scouts ever camp in the outdoors.
A Cub Scout age boy CAN go camping, just not with his den or pack, like would be done in Cub Scout packs not sponsored by the LDS church. ... It could be with his immediate family, with extended family, on a ward campout, or even on a “Father's and Son's” camping trip. But not as any kind of an official Scouting opportunity.
Never really worked with any LDS scouts, as their troops were homogeneous. I know in years past, some LDS troops attended summer camp at LPSR. Instead of attending Sunday through Saturday, they didn't arrive until Monday. Not sure when this changed.
I did work with two LDS scouters in WoodBadge courses, one a member of a patrol I counselled, another as a fellow course staff member. Both were good to work with. The staff member was an especially hard and innovative worker. The only restrictions I remember them having at that time was they couldn't participate on Sundays (had to be at their own services at home) and they couldn't wear shorts (immodest, I guess.) Although shorts are part of the standard WB uniform, they were exempted. They were able to camp the same as the rest of us, bar Sundays.

My first concert ever was probably a Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic, when I was 3 or 4. My folks have pictures of me there, so that's what I'll go with, although it could easily have been another similar outdoor festival event, or even some show at the Armadillo World Headquarters.
My dad was the General Manager for KOKE FM in the 70s and early 80s, and KOKE was the promoter for pretty much any and every country/western concert in Austin that wasn't a Nashville band, so I went to a ton of Willie, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon, etc. growing up. Tons of Aquafest acts, too, in all of the various genres that played there back in the day.
Abuela Gringa and I were at Willie's first also with our 5 yr. old son and 3 year old daughter (her first). It was his second as he made the first night of the Texas International Pop Festival outside Dallas on Labor Day weekend in 1969. He spent the other two nights at his grandma's.
KOKE FM was on at our house or in our car much of the time for its existence. I think it helped shape my son's musical taste. Not so much the daughter's.
My first was either Pete Fountain or Ray Charles. I won the tickets to Fountain and took my mother. The Ray Charles concert was my first unattended by an adult and was in 1961, 1962, or 1963. Mom dropped me and a date off and picked us up afterwards. I thought it was the State Fair Music Hall, but could have been the Dallas Memorial Auditorium.
As was common in that time and place, mom was worried our safety, as most of the audience were "not like us." Much of Dallas was still openly racist in those days. It didn't bother me or my date and we had a great time. People were dancing in the aisles and their seats, unabashedly enjoying the music. Ray was great. Few concerts I have been to since have lived up to that one.

From my understanding, ALL Troop level activities will be 100% gender segregated Troops & if you want to be coed, it has to be within the confines of Venture Crew, Sea Scouts, STEM Lab & for CUB Scouts, you can have a gender integrated Pack however all Dens are gender segregated (unless you want a fully boy or fully girl Pack that is 100% girls & 100% boys).
I haven't been following the changes. Weren't Venture Crews and Sea Scouts already gender integrated? I wasn't familiar with STEM Lab, so I haven't any clue. Is the cub program the only major change?
Of course, I expect it will gradually become more fully integrated in time.

Watched Sir Doug and the Genuine Texas Cosmic Groove last night. Okay, but not enthralled. Too fast paced, clips were short and hurried. Seemed to have a lot of time spent on weak Vancouver and Scandinavian ventures. Didn't seem to mention the Turkey Day Jam, which I thought embodied the Austin years. Good stuff on Soap Creek and Texas Tornado periods.

Izzy's Deli on Main used to be a good lunch place. Specializes in Rueben sandwiches.

Hope you two don't have sensitive ears. There's plenty of cussing. Hasa Diga Eebowai!
We found it hilarious. The profanity and sacrilege didn't bother us. We found the dancing and singing delightful, and the actor who played Elder Cunningham did quite well, almost Chris Farley in his athleticism.

Going to see The Book of Mormon tomorrow night. Christmas present from our kids to me and Abuela Gringa.

Yes, we like their sliced brisket sandwiches. Good comments on their ribs, which I plan to try sometime. Don't know if pork or beef. Brisket baked potato and brisket chili pie are okay.
It's in downtown Nixon on SH 80.
Stopped by last week and tried the ribs. Pork ribs. Good, but don't compare to the brisket. Everyone has his strengths and weaknesses.

Willie's Picnic at Southpark Meadows in 1984, between my freshman and soph years at UT. Saw the Police there. Back then that was "way out in the boonies" lol.
Willie's first in 1973. Kid in white tee shirt at lower left center is my now 50 year old son (a few here know him on Surly).

There was a whole series of these biographies of famous men's (and women's) lives as youths. I must have read scores of them in elementary school. Graduated to more adult books by about sixth grade.

Sheman's battle flag at San Jacinto.
Original hangs in the House of Representatives in the Texas Capitol.

I see Pioneer BBQ in Nixon is already on the map. Good stop on the way back from the coast.

Watched all the seasons of Inspector Lewis, who got his start as Inspector Morse's sergeant. Then I watched Endeavor about Morse's early career. Subscribed to Britbox so I can watch Inspector Morse. I hope it is as good as the others.
I enjoy the British mysteries.
