Pardon me, but I haven’t followed this. Is someone seriously arguing coming in early is not benefit? Even the social life is better as football player on a college campus, compared to all the old girls you grew up with. That might not be the case for the normal kid, but it is for a football player

You also get the advantage of an extra semester that doesn't burn eligibility, making it easier to grad transfer should you need to.

Given that a lot of his issues could potentially be tied to having a cutting bodybuilder's level of body fat, you should probably be supportive of him getting a bit softer around the edges.

My theory on the bodybuilder types and fragility is that their muscles seem to grow stronger much faster than the ligaments that they're attached to.  Kirk Johnson seemed to have the same problems Whittington has had.  Whittington definitely needed to re-evaluate his regimen.

Seems like this guys offense depends on a QB that can run.  Not sure Sark will go for it.

Yeah, unless we run it out of the Wildcat.  I could see some trick go-go plays or a go-go package with Roshon as a Wildcat QB.

  4. I mean, you'll know for sure when you see it.  The primary look is the QB in the shotgun with two RBs both standing next to him on the same side.  It's like a flattened wishbone.

HEB had a beer called Sports or Sportz in the early 2000s.  Definitely the worst beer I ever had, but it was $4 for a 12 pack.

edit:  Apparently I missed an earlier post speaking of the merits of Sportz.

They had it before then, I remember it as far back as '98.  A guy I played intramural softball with would buy it.  He was from the Midwest, and I'll never forget what he said: "yeah, it tastes like piss but it's cheaper than pop!"

There were several instances where we had guys in position to make a play on D but they just sucked and couldn’t finish…. I’m looking at you Brockermeyer.

You could also look at Schooler and Foster...wherever they are now.

Schooler is desperately hoping to make an NFL practice squad and Foster is at Sam Houston State.

really not sure the point here. Bijan obviously has a bit of negative selection in his stats, but the point was the top 4 RBs all had excellent yards per carry. If the OL was truly abysmal at run blocking and it was all Bijan, like it was suggested, you should see some variation in the yards per. When everyone is aroudn 6 or better, the OL probably did a reasonable job run blocking.

Don't let your fake news stats distract you from the FACT that our coaching staff is DOOMED to repeat the FAILURE that was last year.  DOOMED DOOMED DOOMED!

About the defense... I put next to zero credence into press conference bullshittery, but Sark said something the other day that made my ears perk up when taking about the defense. I'm paraphrasing here, but he said that when somebody messes up on d, they *now* get the same message from all the coaches on why they screwed up and how to fix it. We keep arguing talent vs scheme (spoiler - it's both) but I think the building of this defensive coaching staff was fucked from day 1 because Sark hired most of the position coaches before he hired PK, and they never got on the same page.

Considering that last year the defense was working with its third coordinator in three years, in three drastically different systems, with coaches who clearly weren't on the same page plus an obvious absence of talent at a few key positions and it's no wonder they were so bad. I don't know that they can fix it, but they have got to get their communication straightened out or they don't stand a chance. Does Patterson come in and help that or make it worse? As much hand wringing as there is about the oline (all warranted), this is the most critical determinant of the team's success next year.

Good catch.  Man, that would be frustrating as hell for a player, especially the knuckleheads we rolled out at safety.  Maybe Patterson was brought in to help PK coach up his coaching staff.

There are far more than 12 data points on Steve Sarkisian. He’s got 93 games as a HC for goodness sakes.

Do you have any actual conclusions to draw from his last two stops?  Have you watched any of his games prior to last year as a head coach? Or is this just the same "Seven Win Steve" trope, yet again.

He's not expected to be ready for fall camp and we're actively recruiting players in the portal to play ahead of him.  That's my prediction.

And if you play off and have two deep safeties, then what are you taking away? Presumably the safeties take away the deep ball. And often that was a deterrent. So the corners are concerned about intermediate routes and give up the short stuff to convert the 1st.

It just didn’t fit what was happening and sure didn’t result in a better defense.

They didn't want to play two deep safeties.  The pass rush was so bad and their safeties were so bad in coverage that they were terrified about getting beat over the top.  PK's defense has always featured Cover 3 with one high safety and minimal blitzing when he has the correct personnel.  If you have to bring 5 or 6 on any given play to have any shot at pressuring the QB, you're going to get picked apart in the Big 12.

Like I said lets not pretend that Sark is anymore than he has been and the hobbit got infatuated with the guy and his two minions said OK. We did not do an in-depth search to see if there was anyone that was better. The last time Texas did a real search they came up with Mack Brown. So lets hope Sark surrounds himself with the right pieces to get this done because unlike Herman, Strong and Mackovic he at least tries to get the right folks on the staff.

Full search? You're dragging that corpse back out?  Nobody does a full search.  You can't, the recruiting windows are too short these days.  That's why the coaches that Lincoln Riley took with him to USC snuck out of Norman on a private jet in the middle of the night.  When recruits will decommit at the drop of a hat, so nobody is ever "available" until they've already agreed to terms.  Even then you have to worry about another team poaching them if word gets out you're interested.

Not Alabama but what about what Nick did at Michigan State in the same time span. His last year was 9-2 at Michigan State! Peterson had one season with 12 wins and two with 10 wins at Washington. Peterson's worst season was 7-6. That was Sarkisian's standard season at Washington. Granted he did take them from shit to 5 wins year one but in year 5 with all his guys he only had 8 wins and 4 losses. The record as a head coach is not deserving of arguments that we don't know what he is as a head coach. We know exactly what he is as a head coach so for all our sakes lets hope he becomes something more when sober and somehow performs at a level that he has shown incapable of as a head coach.

Peterson's not available, but we do have his DC and a former head coach from his coaching tree on our staff already.  Who's better than Sark that we'd have a chance to get next year?  Who's a better bet than "Seven Win Steve"?

I can guarantee Tom Herman wins more games and goes to a bowl game last year. There is 0 chance that doesn't happen, he uses casey and hudson as battering rams just like he did Sam and his offense isn't terrible. The defense would at worst been just as good, but they knew ash's scheme and it fit the personnel much better.

I'm not stanning for Turtle fucking Tom, but he didn't get fired because he was a shitty coach on the field, sure it was frustrating to watch them play games closer than they should have been, but he never lost to fucking Kansas. Not even once.

Sark is on a short leash this year - if there isn't immediate and drastic improvement from the get-go (meaning against alabama) then Seven win Steve will be just that...

Drastic improvement is what, 8-4?  I don't think he needs to hit 8 wins to be given a third year.  He wins less than that and he's going to need a new DC, but I think the only way he gets fired is if he puts up another 5-7.

I see how you mention Kansas but then try mention that last years futility was not the same as Stong's. Sark past results and this prior year's result checks off all the boxes that indicate to us that we have a shit show coming our way that at best will be like Mackovic. God forbid you become a manger and believe you can change longtime mediocre performer into excellent performer. The best thing you can say is that it is to early to give up on hope and you hope Sark is one of the few anomalies in the business.

Sark went from coaching QBs at El Camino College to head coach at Washington in 9 years.  He was 33 when he took that job.  That's a meteoric rise to become a Division 1 coach. They went from going 0-12 the year before he took over to 10 wins the year he left.  That's a good job for a team that has never been a blueblood.

USC was a shit show, but he was fired in the middle of his second season because of his drinking, and he's done every reasonable thing a person can do to rehabilitate himself from that.  His track record as a head coach is at best incomplete.

I don't know whether he can build a dynasty, but he's a helluva lot better than that asshole we hired from U of H, his offense is miles ahead, and his coaches are much better recruiters.  I don't know what your profession is, but I don't know that I'd want to work for you with a take like that based on the fact that he couldn't turn Washington into Alabama in 5 years after Whittington ran it into the ground.

I think we learn a lot from last year - we are going to suck for the foreseeable future (2 more seasons at least)

The question really is can the for sure suck that we are going to see be overpowered by explosive plays. Our Defense is going to be trash without something major happening on the DL and LB play this season.

Hey, if we can go from Texas Tech under Kingsbury bad to Texas Tech under Mike Leach bad in two seasons, I can live with that.

As we move into next year, it is possible that OLINE is our worst offensive position group. But that’s cause we have horses everywhere else.

Too bad we can't say the same for the defense.  I feel better about the o-line next year than I do about outside linebacker(if we miss on the transfer from TCU), inside linebacker, and safety.  At least right now we've got some athletes at safety, Bush isn't on the two-deep for OLB, and Luke Brockermeyer may have played his last snap as a Longhorn.  With the OL we're at least not depending on addition by subtraction to improve the rotation, as everyone has had a significant role before outside of the RG.  Our QBs are still going to get sacked more than they should until we get the freshmen up to speed.
