The NCAA going with double NU/Aggy first round tourney games is pretty funny at least

Nebraska has never won a game in the men’s basketball tournament. Very nice no win situation for aggy.

If they win then it was expected because Nebraska has never won. If they lose they go down as the same that finally got Nebraska over that hump.

Maybe Sherman was okay, I can’t remember but I respected that guy.

It was fun to point and laugh at sleepy sherm but I’ll admit that he was the only coach I was happy they fired. I truly believe that he was building a solid foundation that could have made aggy a competitive program for years to come. I’m not sure they would have been national title contenders but I suspect they would have won more games than sumlin if they had kept him.

The numbers are frankly irrelevant. Shave whatever multiple you want off the top. It is obscene. And it is funded by our tax dollars. But I guess it may feel better for some if we get to argue about whether you carry the one or not.

I’ll disagree that it’s not important as pro-Palestinian groups and government actors including even Biden are using them like they are official to make a point and win hearts and minds.

Still we agree that a single civilian death is too many but that is war. When Gaza voted Hamas into power it was never going to end peacefully. I don’t like or condone Israel’s actions nor the US funding them. I can keep these thoughts in my head while also acknowledging that Hamas is making this as deadly and painful as possible for everyone intentionally and we should not reward that tactic as it will only lead to more pain and suffering.

It’s a giant shit sandwich, and we’re going to eat it one way or another.

Weird atrocity denial angle this thread has taken.

I don’t think it’s denial to question numbers that have evidence that they are problematic. Remember the rocket that bombed a hospital (reported by the same organization that is calculating these numbers) that the whole media ran with? Turns out it was a misfired rocket from Hamas that hit a parking lot. If a hospital was hit by a rocket and 100+ people were killed there would have been evidence of it. But those numbers were included in these totals despite any evidence and that is problematic.

    Exactly.

This gives you a better idea of what "Sometimes Island" really is. And for perspective, that cliff on the left side of that ridge is the deepest point in the lake at about 185' when the lake was full.

    LCRA_1938-1024x813.jpg

We got quarries all over. Digging up/blasting rock ain’t easy but it’s not impossible either. It makes the lake more usable and increase water storage is a win win.

Maybe because it would increase capacity by, oh I don't know, a fraction of a percent?

    #notsureifkidding

Not kidding. Have you seen the water reclamation projects that have been proposed, including desalinization and force pumping into old aquifers? The money proposed on those efforts also only equals a fraction of a percent of Lake Travis.

It seems like they could deepen/widen the existing reservoir and be cheaper than many of these other water projects to capture more natural run off…and it also would help out those that use the lake for recreational purposes at the same time. I’ve fucked up a few props out there on a rock that came out of nowhere.

Something like this would have multiple public benefits.

  7. I’ve never understood why they don’t try to dig up sometimes island and increase the capacity of the lake. When we get those once a decade type rainfall seasons which fills the lake past 100% and they just open the flood gates all the way it just seems so wasteful, when we know within 5 years we’ll be back to worrying about the water supply.

It seems like that is a relatively easy an obvious way to increase capacity especially while the lake is low, so I’m assuming their must be some other reason why it hasn’t been done.

Again, Abbott accepted the largest donation EVER to a single candidate in the state of Texas from an out of state donor. You bitch about Soros all the time, but ignore the role of billionaires on both sides of the aisle. Fixing campaign finance should be a bipartisan issues. Bitching about one side while ignoring the other does nothing to advance the agenda of campaign finance reform.

I don’t like that either BUT governors, senators, and congressmen have NATIONAL implications and impact. A local race like say with the district attorney, city, council, or mayor is not the same. I wish we’d roll back all these dumbass dark money super pacs but that’s likely a conversation for the CR which even I wouldn’t want to read.

    From the same article:

Garza’s January filing was much less interesting (no George Soros donations this round). He took in just over $39,000 – perhaps because he entered the primary with a mountain of cash on hand. He spent $112,000, which left him with about $158,000 in cash as of Jan. 25.

Garza’s largest donations were for $5,000 and he received three of them. One from John Dismukes, a co-owner of the Armadillo World Headquarters, one from local criminal defense attorney Brad Vinson, and one from local healthcare attorney Carlos Zaffirini. All three have a history of contributing to national and state level Democrats. Zaffirini has also given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republicans

And not all of West Austin wants Garza to lose. He received $2,600 from the same two ZIP codes that funded more than one-third of Sylestine’s campaign in January – including three $500 donations from West Lake residents.

KXAN interviewed the Sylestine the other night on his block walk who stated that 40% of Garza’s funding came from out of state. The ONLY reason I heard that is because it came directly out of the candidates mouth. You’d think someone would have fact checked that statement and made a bigger deal out of it one way or another. Since it didn’t get coverage I’m going to think it’s likely true and it was not covered intentionally.

  10. 6 minutes ago, HenryJames said:

Where did Garza’s funding come from? Multiple news orgs covering the “10 donors who have a history of contributing to Republicans.” but very little coverage on anything Garza related. It’s always great when local media goes all out in their investigatory duties to cover issues only in a single direction.

But seriously, Austin voters are idiots. Nothing new here.

so they do their own road maintenance, fire dept, police dept? Seems like at a smaller scale, those things would be more expensive. What am I missing?

I’m not annexed by the city. We pay our own trash, Travis county does the roads, Travis ESD1 provides fire, Travis sheriff covers police, Co-opt electric, but we do have Austin city water.

that's how we broke a 2 week gap in CR thread?

It’s telling because in 2022 there were 7 FBS independent teams with ND, BYU, Army, UConn, UMass, Liberty, and NMSU and now we’re down to just ND and UConn. While I have no doubt the Irish will be able to put together a schedule with (USC/Stanford/Navy+4ACC games each year), UConn’s outlook is not so great and might lead to them looking for a landing spot.

The American now has 14 fb teams with Army so they don’t want/need UConn back.

The MAC just added UMass into get to 13, unit they have stated they do not want any football only affiliates so full membership is likely a non stater for UConn.

CUSA is adding Delaware and Kennesaw State (GA) to go with recent additions of Jacksonville State (AL), NMSU, Sam Houston St, Liberty, and will have 11 full members, so they might be desperate for a football only affiliate.

Their obvious goal is to find a permanent spot in the ACC/B12 level and are likely just trying to hold out until the dust settles with whatever happens with Florida State.

No hostage names provided so no delegation from Israel to the cease fire talks.

CAIRO/RAFAH, Gaza Strip, March 3 (Reuters) - Israel boycotted Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo on Sunday after Hamas rejected its demand for a complete list naming hostages that are still alive, an Israeli newspaper reported.
A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo for the talks, billed as a possible final hurdle before an agreement that would halt the fighting for six weeks. But by the evening there was no sign of the Israelis.
"There is no Israeli delegation in Cairo," Ynet, the online version of Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, quoted unidentified Israeli officials as saying. "Hamas refuses to provide clear answers and therefore there is no reason to dispatch the Israeli delegation."

Does anyone seriously think there are anymore hostages still alive? If not, Hamas only has that slim hope/doubt to leverage. They will never admit that and Israel gains nothing from these talks unless Hamas is willing to hand over its leaders (which it has stated it will not do). Another shitty no win situation for either side, meanwhile millions in Gaza continue to suffer and die.

Sounds like Florida State's likely departure from the ACC has led the SEC/Big10 to decide to pick over the ACC's bones, leave the NCAA and create NFL/NBA/WNBA/MLB College.  This seemed inevitable following the dissolution of the PAC but it is all happening much faster than expected. The Big 12 will now be the preeminent football conference in the NCAA!

How'd they find out? All my neighbors in that area always said not to involve the city and they wouldn't snitch on each other.

Travis county made us apply for new septic permit since we have Austin water. At no time during the process did they tell me I needed a city build permit. The water inspector bastard reported us after the build was completed when he gave us our license to operate and now I’m dealing with a gigantic load of bullshit.

ETJ isn't really a thing anymore with legislation that has passed over the last decade.  I mean, it still exists.  But it doesn't have a real material impact on anybody who actually lives in the ETJ.  It only matters for developers (and it doesn't really matter to them anymore).  So it really wouldn't matter for you.

As to @TKthunder2's question--the disannexation vote is specific to Lost Creek.  It was annexed back in 2015 just before legislation took effect limiting (pretty much eliminating) cities' ability to annex.  Since then, a bunch of residents have been trying to get the Legislature to allow for a disannexation vote.  And that's what finally happened this last session.  But the legislation is very specific to Lost Creek.  Nobody else anywhere in the state is going to be able to do it without passing new legislation.

I’m in Austin. My area is under a “Limited Taxation District” which is like an ETJ. I have to comply with building regulations (I recently found out) but I pay no taxes. I added on to my home and the City of Austin is claiming I needed a City Build permit. I had one from Travis but not the City and they are up my ass on a bunch of bullshit (including telling me I have to install a fire suppression sprinkler system). The only city service I have is Austin Water. The question I’m trying to figure out is if I dig my own well and have no City services, could I leave the LTD or am I proper fucked.

Probably should have gone in the Help forum but whatever.

Some local dude bought the sign and pylons and put them up. Not remotely city/county sanctioned. I ignore that shit. I'm still waiting for some dude to try to stop me to enforce the bullshit. I'll ask him to write me a fake ticket.

One street in my neighborhood has fake speed limit signs and another someone put in a pair of speed bumps which I do not think are city/county sanctioned.
