He did ? Â Which event was that ?
After the KAL downing, the Soviets were convinced that Reagan was going to order a first strike. Soviet defenses incorrectly registered incoming missiles. If not for a low-level Soviet soldier questioning the data, the Soviet Union would have launched. The event spooked both sides and Reagan softened his rhetoric. The details were revealed when the Soviet archives were opened after 1991. -
And you're underestimating him. Â He said communism is bad, and did something about it thru increased military spending, throwing Star Wars on the table. Calling out the leaders of the Soviet union in public with blunt in your face comments. Â That's a cliffs note version of some of his strong points. He definitely had some issues, but on his rhetoric, and actions regarding the Soviet Union, he led the charge to bury them.
He also damn near got us into a nuclear war… which is a good example that foreign policy is a fucking messy endeavor and always comes with unforeseen consequences. The future is always a tough gamble. It’s easy to judge past actions. -
I think the time for neutrality has passed for at least 50 or so years.

The closer this trip gets, the more I think I'm going to appreciate my wife's obsession with Disney. I lose my shit driving to school in traffic. I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if I was responsible for tickets, lines, Genies, rope drops, etc... As it stands, my wife has done more research on this than she did in getting her Master's. Â
My wife is a super Disney nut and planner and even she used a Disney planner this last trip to help sort through the changes.-

This American Life did a chapter on breaking the propaganda bubble in Russia.
QuoteProducer Alix Spiegel tells the story of a Lithuanian man who devises a plan to solve a problem related to the war in Ukraine. (14 minutes)

The numbers are interesting. If wiki is to be believed, Russia has 1M active and 2M reserve personnel. The population of Russia is 144M. So, not a big fraction, right? Well, if one drills down into age brackets, it becomes apparent that Russia only has 3.45M men between the ages of 20 and 24. Obviously, their armed forces extend past that age group, and I assume some are female, but I'd bet a large fraction is roughly that age.
It wouldn't shock me if 2/3 of young Russian men are in the military. That's hard to hide, regardless of how captive the state media is. This could turn into a real shitshow for Putin.
Add in the factor that anyone in the middle class has probably paid the bribes to stay out of the military. -
Continuing to call it an insurrection doesn't make it one. The bottom line is this: Nobody gives a fuck and has forgotten about it, except for leftists hoping to score political points.Â
Thanks for providing an answer.-

No need to rationalize because it’s not being reported by their sources. Anything that does report it is fake news and turning too liberal.

Skinflint, cheesedick motherfucker.
Also prompts the question, who the fuck owns the copyright to those photos?
The best part is, under Obama and GWB, the WH photog published their own photo book and both of them wrote forewords, for free.
Fucking trump wanted 10% of her advance.
Â
In Trump’s mind, everyone in the world will want to buy multiple copies of the book because he is in it… that 10% is probably a billion dollars. -
Something that occurred to me.
It is possible in a purely political way that a Trump indictment could be premature.
No matter how solid a case the DOJ brings, there is always a chance of acquittal. Always. Â
And, given the novelty of some of the potential charges (a lot of these crimes are rarely or never charged, so we don't have a lot of law on them), there is a possibility that Trump is able to have an indictment dismissed.
I think the maximum value of a Trump indictment might simply be to have it pending during any election campaign and election. Because a conviction is not a legal barrier to election, I'm not sure that it is quite as valuable as a pending indictment and criminal trial.
So, there may actually be some value in delaying any Trump indictment to make sure it's pending during the election.
No, the base won't care, but I think some other voters that he needs will care. And the humiliation of campaigning with an indictment pending may deter him from running.
That’s the way Trump would play it and he’s pretty good at that game. Perception is more important than reality. -
In the Russian-government-controls-discussion department… a Russian friend related that if the word “war” is used in communication, the communication is abruptly cut off. She is here in the states, so I don’t if that applies to general communication in Russia or just external to internal.

I think I’ve seen this movie beforeÂ
A long time ago we took in for a few weeks an exchange student from Uzbekistan. She had Asian features but also had blue eyes and freckles. Her great-grandfather had been a Polish officer who was captured and he and his family were sent to Uzbekistan. The officer and his wife died leaving a young daughter who was sold to be a wife for a wealthy Uzbek. The daughter was the exchange student’s grandmother.-

The terms of the Budapest Memorandum are being misrepresented so that Biden can be blamed for not following through with American commitments.

In case anyone wants to read another view point concerning Putin’s thinking. I’ve subscribed to Russian Life for years… they sent an email out today stating they would be suspending publication out of fear for the safety of their correspondents in Russia.

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=42735
In November 2019, the United States exported 772,000 barrels per day (b/d) more petroleum (crude oil and petroleum products) than it imported, marking the third consecutive month in which the United States was a net petroleum exporter. Although the United States is a net petroleum exporter as a whole, most regions other than the U.S. Gulf Coast region remain net petroleum importers.

That doesn’t describe energy independence. The United States was still connected to the world market.-

Anyone going in a few weeks during Spring Break or during the summer are fools. Grade A fools.
And this is coming from someone who obviously went during Louisiana’s Mardi Gras/Break. Gag me if I have to see another purple, green and gold Disney themed shirt or LSU shirt.
We used the DAS pass (disabled family member) and the Genie+ in parallel to keep from crazy waits, and even that wasn’t enough to not be frustrated with the lines and crowds.
I simply can’t understand anyone who would come to a park and not buy the genie+ and just do the lines— you can ride 2 maybe 3 rides a day that way if you don’t eat onsite. The rocking roller coaster Aerosmith ride there were people who got in line at 4p and were finally riding after 7p. They were beyond frustrated (and apparently the wait was misrepresented initially) and they all were resentful to lightning lane folks. Just one extreme example. Most other rides that were 2 hour rides; we’d get off and just think “who would wait 2 hours for this? I’d be so upset.”
Good advice. If you rope drop and use Genie+ you will be fine. Also, don’t go in thinking you will do everything. There is so much to do now you have to set priorities.-
