  1. Same thing occurred to me a few hours after posting. Are we just arming these guys to execute unarmed suspects?

They were either were grossly untrained or intentionally not doing their job. I’m an old, retired teacher and I know it’s the job of LEO to engage the shooter. When the shooter encounters resistance, he is likely to surrender or take his own life.
  2. I’m seeing the argument that guns shouldn’t be regulated because motivated people will still find ways to get guns. Would this not be a logical reason to not outlaw abortion? Yet, I think many people who state the former will deny the latter.

  3. At this point, there has to be enough people to vote against gov wheels that he’s out, right??

No, because as bad as Abbott is, the Democrats want to destroy life as we know it and eat all the babies as a victory dessert.

  4. I can't wait to hear what Abbott's plans are to stop these shootings in the future. I'm sure it's going to be great and not at all similar to doing nothing until people lose interest again.

He’s going to put together a panel of a few students, a few parents, some law enforcement, and a majority from the gun lobby.

  5. Hot Wheels has spent decades trying to drain the swamp of Texas with almost no ability to direct the policies due to partisanship headwinds and bias against the GOP platform in the Lone Star state.
That's what his supporters believe, right?

Right now it’s Biden is shutting down oil production. Somehow everything is a result of that.
  6. Reasons for abortion:
    Rape 1%
    Incest 0.5%
    The rest 98.5%.
The vast majority of abortions are driven by other modifiable factors. A significant number of abortions are serial cases with intervention opportunities, and lets just be honest a significant number are convenience abortions. Although most reasonable people agree with Clinton's framework, it is just rhetoric in the contemporary dialog.
Most of the information space is occupied by talking about the low incidence scenarios. Because that is where the political hay is made.
Nobody is really looking for outcomes oriented solutions that balance the many very complex issues at play. Just rhetoric and talking points.

Emotional appeal is stronger than logical. The human race would be better off if that were not the case, but here we are and here is where we will likely remain for a long time.

  7. Here is what so many people don't get.  Being pro-choice does not mean you are pro-abortion.  It just means that the choice rests with the woman, her doctor, and anyone else she chooses to include in the process.  Pro-choice is pro-woman.  Trying to force your beliefs on others is as anti-American as you can get.  If you support this bullshit that is happening now, you are a misogynist and anti-American.  You can absolutely go fuck yourself.

Nuanced thought is in dire straits. People can’t comprehend that one can be pro-choice and anti-abortion. When I bring this up in discussion I’m met with silence.

only a matter of time - Paxton / Abbott / Patrick : pregnancy tests are the gate way to abortions !!!!! You get rid of pregnancy tests, you reduce abortions !!!!

Of course... fewer tests mean fewer pregnancies. Wasn't that the logic with COVID tests?

A similar move in California mobilized the Latino voting bloc against the GOP. Prop 187 in 1994 killed the GOP in that state for good.

Not saying we'll see the same in Texas, just pointing it out.

A big difference is that the GOP runs Texas and will marginalize that voting bloc.

If your're a woman in this country, and you are in a relationship with a man that votes for, or supports republicans, you need to shut off pussy access IMMEDIATELY.

They better shut it off fast because that type of action is going to made illegal in the future. Or marital rape will be made legal. One of the two.

    It doesn't matter because (R).

Restrictions are fine when they are put on the other guy. Restrictions for thee but not for me. It's part of the new American ethos.
