    I would guess that a substantial factor in the decision to terminate him, in addition to the abundance of cause, was the decision to let him feel some consequences/stop enabling him.

  2. Well given that he is probably an alcoholic, this is more or less par for the course. 

    I hope that these consequences will hit home and he gets the help that he needs.

    I dunno, you can't speak in generalities.  One of them was reduced by Ellis to 3 years.
