Hell no.  You only get 2-3 yrs for major financial crimes?  People will defraud Medicare for 25M.  Go buy an 18M house in FL that can’t be taken because of the homestead law.  Go do a couple years and sell that house.  You’re set forever.  Fuck that noise.

Homesteads don't apply against the IRS or the feds pursuing restitution or fines.

Other than that, I basically agree with b_t.

He's a white collar criminal. He isn't going to a supermax. He's going somewhere with dorm rooms where they don't lock the doors.

Yeah, non-violent crime, less than 10 year sentence, he will be at low or minimum, possibly medical.

I bet Jackson gives him about 5, consecutive.  She won't stack the two charges because they're basically the same criminal episode, but since it's unrelated to the ED Va case, I bet she makes it consecutive rather than concurrent.

Anybody in Texas should be fucking embarrassed.  Well, all of us as Americans should be sad and embarrassed.

For what it's worth, that's a state court sentence that she will serve less than half of. Manafort is down for 0.85x47 months.

It would be awesome if we had more conservatives that could argue and defend their positions with thoughtful analysis.

Sadly true.  Unfortunately, the GOP hasn't put forth a defensible position on anything in a decade or more.  Well, wait, prison reform.  They did that, in a very half-ass fashion, but they did it.

Put it in writing isn't really an impediment. I doubt any medical professional/organization would go far beyond a extremely basic analysis of a document.

I think what he means is that the decedent should express his own intention in some tangible form, rather than have family speak for his intentions, which is kind of a hazy, hazardous business.

I don’t think our strategies are mutually exclusive.  I agree we should do everything in the short term to oust Trump and the GOP from power.  We shouldn’t attempt to pander for the Trumper votes.

However, how we approach Trump supporters in our daily lives shouldn’t be met with the same dismissal and scorn.  They are usually the ones to bring up politics first and when they do we shouldn’t just let their hateful and misinformed rhetoric go unchallenged.  This is the hardest part because it’s uncomfortable and will have consequences but if you remain silent you’re part of the problem.  JMO.

Yep, not giving these people any kind of voice other than to call them deplorable and talking about their guns and religion is a big reason we're in this fix.  There's a larger sociological issue pertaining to education and opportunity, as well, but I think simply giving these people the dignity of a debate a decade or two ago (when actual debate was possible) would have avoided a lot of this.
