  1. Too many people to quote on this so far but regarding the pool and the bonus...

Clark already put down a 7k deposit on the pool - he says it in the movie.  And he says he doesn't have enough in checking to cover that.
Bonuses back in the 80s were a huge chunk of changed that was an expected although not guaranteed part of a salary; from what I've read or heard from older family members, anywhere from 20-30% of the salary.  Eliminating it would have been a big deal.

I love these movie conversations. We were doing the same with Home Alone yesterday. How much it would cost to fly the extended family to Paris and how pissed the uncle must have been that the vacation was ruined. Round trip ticket to Paris in the late 80s for 15ish people? 50k?
  2. The writing is so f'n good. Sipowicz. I damn near spit my drink out.

I liked the first episode - but the campfire scene was corny as hell. Sitting around singing Elton John? Just strange and out of place.

Kinda like the skinny kid kicking his ass in season 1.

  3. I almost died of frostbite there on 1995 when SFA played them and got destroyed 70-14. Got off the plane and it was 4 with a 30 mph wind. The game kickoff temp was like 6. We had no chance to compete in that weather. Great environment and fun city - went back in 2009 when it was a balmy 27.

Respect. I feel like I was getting updates from Sports Shack or Getaway at the time.
  4. By God this is my 'best money you will ever spend' line as well.  I fucking hate helping so much that I will seriously consider paying for two hours for movers. The day isn't lost.  You don't have to take stupid instructions from so called friends for where they want their shit. And you can keep your God damn pizza and cheap beer because you wanted to save while moving into your $500k house.
Movers and good pair of jeans are worth it.

I said tailored suit, but didn’t think about jeans. I buy AG jeans and keep them for years and damn it seems worth it to me.

A good haircut is another thing.

  5. As someone that has attempted to save money and move myself a few times through the years, I can say with certainty that hiring movers is the most satisfying money you can spend (keeping this SFW).

A few other instances that could make the list:

    - Divorce lawyer (basing this on the fact I did NOT hire an attorney and wish I had).

    - Lawn guy (I know this is a touchy subject for some and their man-card).

    - Fishing guide

    - Tailored suit

    - Dream car

    - Media room

    Others?

  6. but Norm was a police officer too!  He voluntarily stepped aside when Margie got pregnant because they decided only one of them should be on the force and he - correctly - determined that Margie was the better officer.
I'm not trying to pick a fight.  Your point is well made and understood.  I just love Fargo (the film) and am having a little fun defending one of my favorite minor characters.

Love to find the Fargo (film) people. Not the “it’s a great movie” people, the “top 5-10 all time” people.

Norm Son Of A Gunderson is great.

  7. Did you have a stroke while typing this?
Louisville is not good and they’re going to get tied face down to a bedpost ass-fucked by FSU and we’re going to miss the fucking playoffs. In the year year that we could beat any team in the country on a good day. It’s bullshit because FSU doesn’t belong there.

Lock all these threads and sticky this to the top.

  8. This just isn’t a year of upsets - it’s infuriating that it happens to be the year that we have a team that is probably a top 3 team talent wise. The shit ain’t happening. We have gotten zero help and today was just continuous kicks to the balls.

The loss to a mid OU team was colossal and we will be saying “what if” for years to come.

(Unless FSU loses then maybe?) lulz

  9. We are an elite QB away from being the best team in the nation. This team is stacked. You say Quinn only had a few bad throws - that’s because this offense is throttled down to mitigate his decision making. If you think he’s not the reason we lose our minds in the red zone you are wrong.

I would love for him to come back next year and have worked through this mental shit.

  10. Was this the case with the cab driver? I thought he was just a random person drawn into the whole thing, but maybe I missed something.

That’s a good point. The cab driver had a direct connection to his home and I believe he did help them with the stakeout - but that still doesn’t align very well with my theory of only killing “industry types”.

  11. This is exactly what I said - from the first botched hit to everything else. Some other thoughts:
    Spoiler

The entire plot of the movie hinged on him avenging the attack on his girlfriend, which was a violation of one of the rules he kept repeating.
The nail gun death - he miscalculated that shit, too.
The voiceover narration was a bit much. My 15-yo was playing video games and halfway watching and at one point early on he goes, "maybe he wouldn't have missed if he hadn't been talking so much in his head". I loled but seriously.
I hated how he killed everyone involved except for the guy who ordered the original hit. WTF? You won't spare Dolores but you'll spare that guy?

I do generally like Fincher. Just didn't love this one.

I feel like the entire point of the movie was him coming to terms with that fact that his way of life or thinking isn’t absolute. “The only real path is the one behind you.” He let the guy go because he had nothing to do with what happened to him personally. The others chose that career and knew what could happen.

Didn’t love the movie - was just ok.

  12. Preseason, Sark said Ewers would take a big jump. I wanted to believe him but also wanted to see it. We'll, I've seen it. He's legit.

I’m glad there is someone that thinks Ewers is legit. He seems far from “legit” to me. Have we already forgotten how bad he was struggling before he got hurt.

There are a lot of QBs in the country that would be putting up insane numbers with these weapons.

I’d love for him to get there, and I think he can - but he looks scared af out there and every pass play I feel has a chance of being picked off. He does have flashes.

He needs to come back next year.
  13. Fud's Horrortober wrap-up. Thanks for tuning in
Kwaidan- "Ghost Story" in old Japanese dialect, this is a old anthology of ghost tales from 1964 with an eerie trancelike soundtrack and visuals that are absolutely gorgeous. I have too much horror movie scar tissue to be scared at any moment from a movie like this, but I wonder how people felt watching it back in the day. 10/10
Scream 6- this was fine, with a mix of good Scream shit and stupid EW level writing. 6.5/10
Terrifier- this is really good for what it is; a throwback grindhouse type of b horror. 7.5/10

Terrifier 2- got damn. The Terrifiers are the best slashers since the early installments of the Halloween, Elmstreet, and Friday the 13th classics, although it's more considerably gory than any of those. 8/10

All Hallows Eve- More Art the Clown. Good low budget gore fest. 7/10

Talk to Me- Solid horror that's talked up as the best horror of the year more due to the lack of competition than anything. I think it's on a similar level to Megan, Smile, and The Black Phone. 7.5/10
Pulse- another movie by Kurosawa that has a large following (I thought Cure was fucking amazing). While there were a couple of effective creepy/scary scenes, I lost track of what was happening in the movie and it mostly didn't do much for me. 6.5/10
VHS 85- I thought the last two sucked, but this one was pretty good, and included a classic and another good episode. 6.5/10
Possession- what the fuck did I just watch? 8/10
When Evil Lurks- Reminded me of "Terrified" (not to be confused with Terrifier). Good shit. 7.5/10
The Wolf House, and Tetsuo The Iron Man- two shorter weird and incoherent avant garde movies that I half watched
    Dog Soldiers- 5/10
Pieces- a good old slasher- 7/10
The Boogeyman- solid newer horror. 6.5/10
Come True- more dark sci-fi than horror. Interesting ending. 7/10
Roadgames- I liked the rated R version of this, The Hitcher, better. A braver ending would have been better, but it was a PG movie, so they couldn't do that. 6.5/10
You Won’t Be Alone- if Terrence Malik made a euro witch folk horror. 7/10
Opera- out of the four Argento movies I've now seen, I thought this was the best, but I'm still not a fan. His movies do have smokeshows, and the lead kept up with tradition. 7/10

Love the Kwaidan mention. I own this and Onibaba on BluRay. Nothing else like these two films in the world.
