  1. I really enjoyed this A24 film - I read a list of horror movies Mike Flanagan recommends and this was on it, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Want to do a rewatch soon. And there's a creepy song that'll get stuck in your head.

    A favorite for sure.
  2. Movies I’ve watched this month:

    - When Evil Lurks (Shudder) This lived up to the hype for me but isn’t a perfect movie by any means. First half is absolute bonkers and I love how foreign horror doesn’t care about our moral restrictions. Nothing is off limits. I think I liked his first movie Terrified more, but it too loses me a little in the final act. (4/5)
    - The Boogeyman (Hulu) I put this off forever because it looked terrible but I was pleasantly surprised and wish I had seen it in the theater. Some legit jump scares. Sophie Thatcher can act her ass off. Plus Midnight Sun by Nilufer Yanya is a banger. You might hate it - but I think my expectations were so low, it kinda worked for me. (3/5)
    - Lamb - (Sho) Very divisive and probably not horror. If you like art-house folky weird shit like I do, there is something to appreciate here. Beautifully shot and I think Noomi Rapace is fun to watch. (3.5/5)
    - Totally Killer - (Prime) If you like Back to the Future and teen slashers, this is for you. Hard not to enjoy. Plus - Julie Bowen. (3/5) Maybe 3.5.
    - Masters of Horror/Imprint - (Tubi) If you haven’t watched this series, you should definitely check it out. There are several episodes that are good - I think Cigarette Burns (John Carpenter) is the most well known. This is about Imprint, which is the final episode of season 1 and I think was the only episode Showtime wouldn’t allow to be aired. If you like messed Japanese horror this is up there. One of Takashi Miike’s most f’d up productions. (4/5
    - No One Will Save You - (Hulu) I really liked this, but this is absolutely not what you think it’s going to be. What starts off as a pretty straight forward alien abduction plot - turns in to something completely different and actually tells a story that stays with you. What is actually going on is up for debate for sure. (3.5/5)
    - Hippopotamus - (Tubi) Not a great movie by any means imo - but definitely worth checking out if you like abduction thrillers with a lot of twists. Would love to get some feedback on what you think is going on in this one. (3/5)
    - Alligator - (Tubi) If you are over 45-50 you probably remember this being a big deal when you were a kid. Baby alligator gets flushed, eats toxic waste and turns in to a giant in the sewer. I came across this on Tubi and just threw it on for nostalgia and DAMN does this hold up! Robert Forster is a badass and this movie has some truly epic scenes (wedding). (4/5)
    - You Won’t Be Alone (Rent) This is a slow burn, beautifully shot fantasy/horror about an ancient witch that can take the form of humans that she kills. Once again - I’ll watch anything with Noomi Rapace but she’s really on in it for a short time. People lose their shit over this movie so you may too, but for me, it fell a little short of being extraordinary. (4/5)
    - Tumbbad - (Prime) Looking for something really different, check out this Indian folk/horror film that follows a man over 30 years and his quest for a family treasure that is being guarded by a demon. (4/5)
    - Titane - (Hulu) Does watching a crazy chick serial killer being impregnated by a car do it for you? (4/5)
    - Superdeep - (Shudder) Russians drilling the deepest borehole in to hell. Underrated and generally creepy. I liked this more than most. (3.5/5)
    - Sputnik - (Hulu) Russians bringing shit back from space. Interesting plot, legit dread. (3.5/5)

Some lesser known “must see” movies that I may have posted about before - Kill List (Shudder), Bone Tomahawk (Tubi), Triangle (Shudder/Tubi), Wicker Man 1974 (Tubi), Host (Shudder), Lake Mungo (Tubi), Psycho Gorman (Shudder), The Loved Ones (Pluto), Bloody Hell (Tubi/Shudder), Hunter/Hunter (that ending holy shit) (Hulu), and knock out Martyrs if you like extreme shit and haven’t seen it. It’s rough but has an interesting plot.

Those of you talking about the Saw movies - maybe check out The Collector and The Collection.

  3. Murphy will have a very short leash IMO.
Try and tell me DKR wont absolutely explode if its a close game and the offense hasnt scored at will and 16 trots out with the offense to lead a 2 minute drill before halftime

His uncles did it right? Or Eli did? Shit I can’t remember. That automatically means he will too of course.
  4. I hear what you’re saying, and the game at the Cotton Bowl has the more “magical” feel, but if you’re holding the Big 12 trophy at the end, that’s gonna matter more, regardless if the qualification for and staging that game itself is silly or superfluous.
I attended as well and still remember OU fans flashing the number four at us as we filed out, indicating the number of consecutive conference titles they had won. Our earlier win in October is the win that felt hollow to me at that point.

I agree with this. We will most likely be playing for a spot in the playoff on top of the Big 12 trophy. Kick their ass and it will be sweeter. I like our chances of moving 5 spots. Hell, Wyoming could win out and be a top 20 win.

  5. I wonder what the plan is for Trey Lance. Will they throw him out there at all this year to see what he has. I doubt it. Looks like any mop up duty will go to Rush. I don’t know much about the guy but curious as to what he had to warrant the #3 pick.

  6. have you watched college football the last 20 years? An elite offense loves having the ball with 80 seconds and only down 3.

Or the Bama game last year?
  7. I didn't want to go all Oedipus, but we also quit about 30 minutes in. I didn't give enough of a shit about anything in the movie including why what was going on was going on to keep watching.
    To each his own.

Probably the most satisfied I’ve ever felt after “sticking it out” in a movie.

To each his own for sure.

  8. Rewatching Goliath S1 and loving it.  The hooker with a heart of gold makes my dick hurt.  (Tania Raymonde).

She had the same effect on Malcolm and Reese when she came back from Europe.

Also, I’m seeing now that I’m going to have to watch Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret.
  9. Aww thanks. He got into Stephen King a few years back and he convinced me to rent the new It (both parts), even though I hated watching horror movies back then. Fast forward a few years and I don't draw the line at much, mainly gratuitous sex. The most awkward scene we've ever seen together is the sex scene in Beau is Afraid. And we saw Oppenheimer a few weeks ago. IYKYK.

I saw Midsommar at the theater with my older daughter when she was 15. That was the most cringe experience I think we’ve had. Eesh.

BTW, as the single father to two horror movie loving daughters, I’m down to make a really f’d up Brady Bunch if you are.
  10. Mahomes is amazing. I like watching him play. He’s tough as shit. His brother is an annoying shit and I hope he goes to prison for decades. His wife is an annoying shitbag as well.

My family and his Mom’s family have grown up together through several generations out in Troup. I grew up around her but was never close. Facebook friends etc.

CSB - but the point I want to make, if you saw the environment he came from you would have even more respect for the guy. Absolutely amazing he’s not a total shitbag.
  11. Not sure how I missed this when it came out.   Directed by Taika Waititi, but it had a strong Wes Anderson vibe, which I really liked.
Heavy topic, but a few good laugh out loud moments.
    Particularly the Yorki character...(spoiler below)

“We landed on the moon!” Gif.
  12. The D-Day landing was the beginning of what might have been a great war movie. It turns into an action movie after that. Entertaining but no longer realistic.
Kubrick's Paths of Glory and Full Metal Jacket easily surpass Saving Private Ryan. The last words of Tom Hanks leading to the final shot are pure Spielberg cornball. He's a brilliant filmmaker but lacks any sort of worldview.
I envy his skills and catalog, but he, to me, is no giant of cinema. Jaws is his best movie.

I’ve watched the first half of Full Metal Jacket countless times, second half not so much.

Saying SS is not a giant of cinema is a bold statement.

    Raiders
    Schindler’s List
    SPR
    Jaws
    Jurassic Park
    ET
    Close Encounters

That is a hell of a resume.
