I don’t get Donald Glover.  I cant stand him for some reason. That monologue was the least funniest one I’ve ever seen.

    His monologue sucked.

I'm down in San Antonio frequently for work as several of my clients are active down there.  There's a lot of generic sprawl, but still more charm than a place like Dallas, and a hell of a lot more scenic.  In terms of restaurant and entertainment, it seems like it's miles ahead of where it was 10 years ago.  And I love the access to so many cool small towns in the Hill Country.  So yeah, if you had to boot me from Austin to another big city in Texas, it would be San Antonio in a heartbeat.  But right now I happily see myself in Austin for the long haul.

Yo tambien.  I grew up in San Antonio but I've lived in Austin since 1993 when I started at UT as a freshman.  I have been to Houston and Dallas a ton.  When I was in my 20s, I would have preferred Dallas over SA. Now in my 40s, no doubt I'd pick SA over Dallas or Houston.

I was in San Antonio earlier today visiting friends.  But...  I don't see myself leaving Austin any time soon...

I’m a couple of episodes behind. Pretty good so far. The dude leaving all the “I really wanna kill those fucking Bolivians!” voicemails was cracking me up...but I definitely want Barry to kill the blonde post haste. Absolutely hate her character.

I think you're supposed to hate her tho

“What can I say? I’m a gear head”. A bunch of funny parts mixed with some dark stuff. I enjoy this one quite a bit

His delivery on "he's so creepy" makes me laugh just thinking about it.

  5. We have a ton of SWA points due to our credit card including the companion pass.  We need to do a family trip at some point.  I would love to go to Mexico City but with little kids, eh.  Bahamas....  hmm.

  6. Who here is shocked it made it this long?

The last time I went in there my freshman year in 1993.  I had a friend who lived there and it had a funk smell. That's what I remember the most about the place.

Does that valuation of $5.2M strike anyone as incredibly low? I would think just the land itself is worth more than that.

Yes but it isn't an empty lot. Someone is going to have to spend a lot of money to tear it down.

YETI Congress needed a 51% Red sign from TABC.  Posting the metal engraved 30.06 (before the 30.07 was relevant, IIRC), irked a lot of CHL holders, which is one of the target demos IMO.  I still say fuck them for the right turn lane that disappeared when they moved in, but I understand that's not exactly their fault, as much as it's the city reclaiming public roads to create park space.

Doesn't the YETI store serve beer? Does that impact the CHL?

  9. Yeti is an interesting product.  It pisses off a lot of people that their items are priced so high when deep down they really want the product.

How much are the Stanley coffee Thermos guys kicking themselves? They have been doing vacuum sealed products for what 40 years?  Why didn't they think of making a 30oz stainless steel tumbler?

For the record, I am not a Yeti fan boy and I don't own any Yeti coolers. I bought the RTIC roadie & the 45 when they went on that crazy sale last year.  And I have since sold both on FB.  For as heavy as they were, I didn't think either kept ice that long.  My favorite cooler is the Polar Bear soft 20 cooler.  I have one from a Texas Exes Houston Chapter fundraiser which means it's the only one like it versus my friends that have the same looking Yeti Hopper...

  10. Getting back to the IPO...  This is a great article about YETI.  This was in their hayday but it's still a good read and has some good points.

There's not much Yeti can do about Cabela's aping its product, but it can find other retailers. It now has the money and staff to target more segments and broader audiences. And for a company its size, Yeti's product line is a relative minnow. One of the strategic issues Reintjes and the Seiders brothers face is whether to take the Yeti brand into even more distant territory. Yeti boats? Kayaks? Clothing? "Yeti started as a product company," says Reintjes. "One product. What we've seen in recent years is that it's become a product brand. It has a lot of product stretch."

And Yeti definitely wants to stretch, both the product line and the territory. While continuing to expand its Hopper and drinkware lines, Yeti is doing a deep dive into new product categories and in the process expanding its product development team from 20 to 55 people by the end of 2016. As for geography, the company has plans to begin rolling out their products to selected international markets.

As Harley-Davidson has shown, a brand that becomes tribal can be enduring. "When you slog through the land of branding, you can become jaded by the sheer exponential power of what a brand can do," says Siegel+Gale's Srere, "and then, every once in a while, you see it and bang! That's what Yeti's got. That's what Harley-Davidson's got." Cortec's Schnadig knows it too. "This won't happen again in my career," he says.

I've been to several DQs that are hole in the walls....very old and outdated.  But the food is always great.  Some of these are competing with very large and new truck stops / convenience stores too.

I ate at the DQ in Hamilton with my dad the last weekend of deer season and it was busy. Old school type.

On the way home, we ate at a DQ off I20 and 281 and it was a brand new one.  Did not like it at all.  Didn't feel like a DQ.

The line the 3 times i have been has been long....2 times i got there at 6am at was around the 10th person...one time got there at 9:30 and didnt get inside until 11:30ish

Sombitch. Fucking Texas Monthly.  The last 2 times I went to Snow's the line was very manageable.  I went 2 years ago and we showed up at 10:30am and had food by 11am. When I saw them name Snows #1 in the state, it was like a punch in the gut.

Make sure you get to snows early OP....been twice last month and a half and it is amazing

I have been to Snow's a few times.  The last time I went was maybe April 2017.  I took my oldest son as my other 2 were at a birthday party with my wife.

It was amazing (sausage, brisket, pork ribs) and got a free Lone Star from the dude there.  We showed up at 11:15am and the line was about 8 people, we started on that ramp there. The only thing they were out of was jalapeno sausage.

Maybe 2 weeks later Texas Monthly named them the best in the state (for a 2nd time).  I was actually pissed off because I knew what it would do for the lines.

Which brings me to my question -> how is the line at Snow's now?

  14. - Exponent (Ben Thompson from StratTechery and James Allsworth). Focuses on technology, strategy and business. Great insight.  He's been doing it for years and after enjoying his new weekly drops, I started listening from the very beginning.

    - StratFor Podcast (Austin based strategic forecasting company). Focuses on world affairs but it's really informative stuff.

    - HornCast.  I'm a sucker but they can go longer than they need to.

    - Planet Money (NPR).  These are great 10-15min podcasts. There have been some great episodes.

Def give S2 a try.  It departs almost completely from the noir style of S1 and gets much “brighter” (and much more action/shootouts).

Bosch S2 was much better than S1. Thanks for the rec. I was ready to stop after S1.
