  1. Helluva lot younger than Villaraigosa, and she is committed YIMBY + has institutional influence, whereas Porter is newfound in the former and lacking in the latter (which is why I think it’s fair to hold her accountable for being pretty insufferable). Anyways, I just find the sexism angle sort of weak in the context of a state in which women consistently hold the most prominent positions at federal, state and local levels.
  2. I just think this is overstated. As I posted earlier, this is California. Not only will we elect a Democrat, it could very well be a woman. Katie Porter is polling first now after the other two heavyweights - both women - dropped out. But she is by no means the heir apparent Dem nominee and I certainly feel no obligation to vote for her (though ironically she has been saying what I want to hear as a voter). But hey, I’m just the guy who wanted Toni Atkins (just withdrew because she can’t beat Porter).
  3. Threads like this sometimes confuse me, but then I remember what it was like to be a Texas Democrat:
  4. It’s California, there are eight Democrats in the field. It’s not like fucking Rick Caruso is going to swoop in and win the thing.* * Like, actual Democrats.
  5. Hey, player-hating is all Houston fans have right now!
  6. I disagree with the commentary. It is not, in fact, tough to watch Clayton Kershaw struggle like this.
  7. I feel like it is inevitable, but not particularly looking forward to her as governor.
  8. I love this particular shoulder season Tahoe, with no melting snow and no crowds, but getting into October you begin rolling the dice on weather (looks like snow is in the forecast next week). Just spent a week on the west side of the lake and can’t really report anything new, though if we are going back to 2019 some NOLA expats opened Toulouse in South Lake Tahoe during the pandemic and it’s a decent way to scratch both the Tahoe and New Orleans itches.
  9. Fuck everything.
  10. Have been to the Four Seasons for dinner quite a bit but have not yet stayed there as I have not breached the sanity/free child care balance with my in laws (but am close). Would appreciate reviews. I actually don’t know anyone who has stayed there.
  11. Clara Jeffrey is a leftist? I’ve been in San Francisco too long, progressives here call her a Republican.
  12. It made X and became Elon’s latest source of racist outrage.
  13. Dominican Kenny Powers.
