  1. The Nude Party in Martindale at 2pm yesterday. Weird seeing a band that can sell out an Austin venue playing to 75 people in essentially a backyard. At one point they covered London Homesick Blues and everyone in attendance was given a Lone Star. Played for about an hour and a half and sounded good. Better than the last time I saw them at Scoot Inn.

  2. Did not realize the last time he played with Crazy Horse in Dallas was 2003 at Smirnoff. Had a friend who worked for The Edge and got me VIP box seats just behind the mixing booth.

It was the Greendale tour. They played the Greendale album and followed with a full Crazy Horse set. It was fucking awesome. Lucinda Williams with her band opened and they were great too.
I was there. Was my friend's 21st bday.

  3. saw neil young and the horse in phoenix on saturday. it was incredible. setlist was phenomenal, played everything a little slower than the album versions but didn't lose any of the intensity. micah nelson did a pretty good job of harmonizing with neil, playing rhythm guitar and staying out of the way. got a few solo acoustic songs too. hey hey my my to close the set was as intense as one would hope...pulsing guitars, screaming feedback, motherfucking rock n roll. nils lofgren joined them for the danger bird encore. the number of extremely angry boomers was off the charts. heard some wonderful things such as "sit down or i hope you fucking die" "for $100 a ticket you better play the hits". i stood up for 3 out of the 14 songs and you would've thought i pissed on the flag or something.

  4. have been a fan forever but prior to last year had only seen them twice since they rarely play in tx. attended 3 shows last year and had no idea that their fanbase is so...cult like. people lining up hours before the show to buy the poster/tshirt for that specific city. people camped out all night to be first in line...and then there's some sort of weird controversial wristband thing they do to save their place. all of the people around us at the shows had seen them 25+ times. it was very reminiscent of deadheads, except rich old people and no hippies. honestly it was very much a turnoff but i'm seeing them twice more this year so maybe they've got me right where they want me. the weird holier than thou undertones of all of it was pretty terrible.

  5. fingers crossed for a tour, not holding my breath though. maybe there will be 3-4 dates in the US if we're lucky.

  6. my biggest complaint with the new pj album is eddie vedder. for the last few albums he's just been cramming way too many words into the songs. there's no space anywhere that isn't filled with forced lyrics.

  7. i frequent the north lamar location. i find that it's great for breakfast or lunch but for whatever reason it's not good after 6pm. the waitstaff is awful all the time. quick to get your food and then you never see them again. hate being held hostage when i just want to pay and gtfo.

That sucks. I really liked that bar. Pizza was fine but I never went there to eat.

That being said, buying that building for $3m after sinking $200k just to cover day-to-day operations at a struggling dive bar doesn't seem like a prudent investment. And asking the general public to cover part of your $600k down payment is an interesting strategy. The people that are going to contribute to that are regulars. And regulars already spend all of their disposable income at your bar. But good luck!

asking for $100k to "close gracefully" is some bullshit. i enjoyed going there to see mostly shitty and occasionally good bands, and doing some day drinking on weekends. hell i was just there on saturday. don't think i've ever had their pizza.

Just finished the new PJ album.  (twice)

Easily their best effort since Yield.

    Bravo

that's quite an opinion. waiting for stevie and wreckage are good, the rest doesn't do much for me. this one goes in the same category for me as everything post avocado...probably will never listen to it again after this tour.

playing tomorrow night at continental club gallery.

  11. saw the north mississippi allstars at antone's on friday night. had been a while since i had seen a good blues show. they had the guitarist/vocalist from blind boys from alabama with them and I really enjoyed his contributions. had been years since i'd seen nmas, still quite enjoyable. had my fill after 2 hours and got out of there, looks like they played another 5 or 6 songs. the number of 20 something females at the show was quite surprising.
