saw him a few times at antone's back in the early 2000's after discovering his cover of "champagne & reefer" via napster. he really fell off the map for a while.

spent a few days on the beach at mustang island. was not crowded at all. beaches were clean the first couple days but quite a bit of seaweed and tar washed up on saturday. really hate getting the tar off dog paws. ate at black diamond oyster bar a couple of times and it was excellent. stopped at beach ball brewing and it was truly terrible.

Damn. I was really looking forward to watching it this weekend. I can’t think of another time an entire major festival was cancelled like this due to weather.
levitation 2016 at carson creek ranch
big dumb fest on saturday was fun, caught several good bands. bat lips shredded hard, the grasshopper lies heavy was a good san antonio band, gus baldwin and the sketch did their normal high energy set, rickshaw billies closed it out and had the crowd going nuts.
saw the tender things at hole in the wall yesterday. nice chill sunday afternoon set.

enjoying qotsa alive in the catacombs. the stripped down versions of these songs are great.

kevin mckinney at batch last night. kevin on acoustic and david ramirez on electric. played a mix of soulhat and solo stuff. quite enjoyable. apparently he'll be doing this once a month at batch. they cut him off promptly at 9:30, which was kind of weird because he seemed like he wanted to play longer.
soulhat is playing antone's on the 28th.

along with my parents, was an extra in that george strait movie pure country. we were in the crowd for a performance and can clearly be seen in the movie. they did a bunch of takes for a couple of the movie songs and then george played 4 or 5 of his hits for all the extras who showed up. filmed at an arena in ft worth.

saw the well at central machine works on friday. they have a freakishly large outdoor stage. there were maybe 15 people who even cared that a band was playing. bad vibes all around in that place.

saw this band last friday, vanna black. they were good, would see them again. their 1st album just came out.

would you get twice the number of people if the cover was $10? $20 is kind of steep for a backyard concert. i go to a lot of concerts and i'm not sure i'd pay $20 to sit in someone's backyard...but i'm assuming the turnout is mostly people who live in the neighborhood and not folks who are coming for a specific artist. in that case $20 is probably the way to go.

saw 2 songs of aether realm at radio east last night before "lightning in the area" stopped the show. unfortunate because they sounded pretty good. after over an hour delay gwar took the stage and did gwar things. always fun.
i truly don't understand the travis county weather policy for outdoor shows. they kick everyone out of the venue and tell you to "take shelter in your vehicle". i took a fucking uber so guess i'll go stand in the street and get rained on? we never actually left the venue, and it never rained, but it's stupid to make people leave the only place where there's shelter.

Someone threw a plastic bottle at my back and yelled for me to sit down.
the boomers are angry. this has happened to me several times over the last few years, most recently at neil young. it's refreshing to attend an arena show where everyone is standing.

no one was ever voting for joe, other than winning challenges he didn't do shit and they all knew it. he got a hero edit because playing up that emotional aspect of this season was the only way to make it remotely interesting. honor and integrity don't win survivor.
one thing i didn't understand was kyle revealing that he's a lawyer. if you've kept it hidden the entire game because you think it would hurt you, then how is it suddenly a thing you want to tell everyone before the final vote? he also had to be prompted by kamilla to talk about how they voted out shauhin. glad he won, at least he was playing the game. not a good season.

Sure those were bees and not something else? I can’t remember if it’s hornets or yellow jackets that live under ground, but they don’t play.
the first time i mowed at my current house i got attacked by a swarm of bees. they were living in a rotted out stump that had been cut to ground level. luckily they weren't the killer bees, but i still got stung in the face a bunch of times.

i'm sure the fact that he can go drum for 100 other different bands made the decision a lot easier. wouldn't be surprised if they've had someone else in mind the whole time, but freese was there and able to learn the songs quick because of his freelance experience.

went to a thai place for dinner last night and all they had were chinese and japanese beers. had a sapporo black and it was a surprisingly good dark lager. it came in a 22oz can and was the same price as all the 12oz beers. will not hesitate to order one again.

they pinned them all on somebody. whether or not that person actually committed the crime is a different question.
