Not a fan of straight up lying about another player.  F Kyle and Kamilla.  Especially saying, "I love you" as Shauhim is walking away.

what? it's a game, and this was one of the only interesting episodes of the season because they actually DID something. i welcome much more lying instead of this boring ass game they've all been playing.

Question that is apropros of little, but I can't find a "punk" thread:  somebody tell me about The Viagra Boys.

they're the ween of post-punk, satirical songs that are actually good. they incorporate jazz, country, electronic, psych. they definitely don't take themselves seriously.

  3. hit up a couple spots in nashville last week:

third man records- this place is way smaller than I had envisioned. the section of stuff recorded live at third man was the most interesting part, otherwise they only have third man artists. they do have a lot of weird memorabilia and novelties to look at.

daydream records- small shop but nicely curated and a large variety of genres. similar to blk in austin.

  4. #8 for me last thursday in nashville. peter frampton sat in for black...didn't see that one coming.

Not sure what I'll do when I add a turntable.  I typically don't want the 'table on the same surface as speakers.  Might try it just see if there's an issue, and buy stands if there is a problem with the turntable being affected by vibrations from the speakers.

i've had good results using an isolation platform for the turntable if it has to be placed on the same surface as the speakers.

in another month, the train tracks will be open again and you can take Amtrak.  It's a really great way to do it.

back in october i took amtrak from SD to LA and ended up stuck on the tracks for 8 hours with no power to the train...that means they can't sell booze and the toilets don't flush. also the windows don't open. never again.

  7. my sunday strategy payed off once again and i picked up a handful of records for 50% off. also, jack white was there casually digging through crates.

I had an old girlfriend that was a massive fan too and we'd go see them all the time at a place on 6th that had a smallish venue upstairs

Pretty sure that's the old Parish. I think it was called Mercury at Jazz for a bit. Definitely saw them there a few times.

We had tickets for them a couple years back for a New Years show at ACL Moody, which was cancelled.

i had tickets for that as well. they never rescheduled and still haven't played a headlining show in austin since lucifer on the sofa was released.

  10. jrad was fun, but don't think i would see them again. they definitely play everything too fast and there were some fairly boring jams. eyes of the world was really good and so was cumberland blues.

  11. 1 week until nashville. i've upgraded from nosebleeds to the 200 level, still hoping something in the lower deck becomes available.

  12. my introduction to them was seeing britt play solo shows at beerland on weeknights during the early 00's. not a huge fan of anything before girls can tell, but everything after that is solid. though i'm less partial to the synth heavy hot thoughts.

Did you do the imax screening? I thought it was pretty sweet.

yep. the number of extreme closeups was kind of funny.

  14. i think the meatball hoagie is the best thing pinthouse burnet has going but it's too expensive...like everything else on their menu. still like the pizza rolls but they are tiny now and twice the price they used to be.

  15. went to eeyore's on saturday for the first time in years. i expected it to have lost some of its weirdness but it was still fantastic. stayed long enough to have a couple beers, watch the costume contest, and do some great people watching. all of weird austin was still there getting high and hanging out. grateful dead was blasting from the stage PA between bands, and if you chose to buy a beer they were all local and only $7 for a 16oz pour. this old gray haired hippie lady was there with her goat that was ready to fight every dog in sight.

  16. wish they would put more riot act songs in their sets. i seem to be in the minority that really loves that album. all or none is one of my favorite pj songs, hope i hear them play it one day.
