Interesting.  Wonder when this will hit teams in the NCAAT if it ever will.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/01/16/dukes-zion-williamson-should-shut-it-down-until-nba-draft-says-scottie-pippen/?utm_term=.774129c70898

Don’t remember all about the Irving injury, wonder if that was the case when he was at Duke?  Shut it down in fear of further Draft damage.

I said much the same in the Zion thread. He has nothing to prove now. Stop. Playing one season for Duke only makes Coach K, and Duke, wealthier.

  2. The youngest Ball brother, LaMelo Ball, returned to the American high school scene as a longshot to ever play a college game. Those slim hopes just got worse on Tuesday.

According to a report from Forbes, LaMelo’s high school team, SPIRE Institute (Ohio), was slated to participate in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., this week but dropped out when an “outside consultant” demanded a $10,000 appearance fee for LaMelo.

LaMelo had participated in the Hoophall West in Arizona last month in front of a capacity crowd. But according to Procino, nobody requested a fee for LaMelo’s appearance in that event.

Forbes went on to report that SPIRE believed that the consultant was LaVar Ball’s business partner and Big Baller Brand manager Alan Foster. For The Win reached out to Foster for comment, but did not receive a response. He also did not respond to Forbes’ attempts at reaching him.

LaMelo already has an expansive list of issues jeopardizing his NCAA eligibility. He signed with an agent. He played professional basketball overseas. He played professionally in the start-up JBA league. He has his own signature shoe and promotes Big Baller Brand on social media.

The Ball family — or their representatives — personally charging money for LaMelo to appear in high school tournaments would be another violation of NCAA guidelines. It’s why basketball programs have steered clear of LaMelo despite his legitimate five-star talent.

Upon dropping out of the Hoophall, SPIRE has scheduled to play in the The Grind Session in Kentucky.

    Via Forbes:

But when Greg Procino, who organizes the games at Hoophall Classic, received a request for an appearance fee in exchange for having Ball and SPIRE play at the event, Procino balked and SPIRE opted to go elsewhere. Procino said no one from the school or basketball program made the request, but at that it came from an outside “consultant.” Procino said this was the first such request he has received in 10 years of organizing games at the event.

“The school/program did not request money,” Procino wrote in an email. “An outside ‘consultant’ who requested the change in terms did have certain financial requests. We did not pay them to participate and SPIRE decided not to honor the original agreement for Hoophall Classic. We replaced SPIRE with The Patrick School after the final conversation took place. Games are being cancelled with Spire unless the terms are acceptable to the outside consultant.”

Congrats again, Pitt. You guys are on a roll. After the past couple of seasons, it's got to feel good.

Last season was so Godawful. So utterly terrible. We had a game last season, a 9 p.m. game on a Wednesday night, against Wake Forest. There were fewer than 1,000 people in the building. It was the penultimate home game of the season. We counted 12 people, including our crew, in our section. After we went 0-19 against ACC teams last year this is starting to resemble Pitt Hoops that Ben Howland and Jamie Dixon helped build. Now we need some big guys.

  4. One issue I have with microbreweries is that they tend to get too fancy.

For me, I just want a Bier to taste like a Bier. I don't need Coffee Bier, Chocolate Bier, Grapefruit Bier, etc etc etc.

A bunch of us do a party bus each year between Christmas and New Year's and we stop at different micro-brews along the way to town where we eventually stop at Pittsburgh's Hofbrauhaus. The micros have some awful stuff. Some is very good, but the fancy stuff is too much for me. I just like Bier.

For sure. But that’s a Ferrari issue, not a MA issue.

Not an attempt at being argumentative, but he has been a big part of Ferrari, thus, he is part of the problem.

It’s not that simple. He had been with Ferrari for a while and leading a team isn’t only about technical prowess. He’s a chairman for Juventus too.

As a non-Ferrari fan, I thought he was the best they have had in years. He was like their Toto Wolff to now having a Paddy Lowe (Binotto). We will see how it works for them.

I still don't think he was that great. I am not sure what he does as a director for Juventus. I saw that there was a shakeup there at the end of the year, but no word on his status changing. It just seemed to me that Ferrari have been a cluster fuck for too long.

My buddy hates that commercial so much that he will come back into the room when he hears it just to yell at the TV.

He recently learned he'll be having a daughter in a few months.  I told him I'll be helping her with her first word: dad-uh

In the correct world the "Dad-uh" bitch has to mow the rest of the yard before she gets to go to her friends house.

Why can’t Little Miss ride her bike to her friend’s house?

  8. Pitt just lost, by five or six, at #15 N.C. State. A frustrating game for the Panthers. Had a lead, lost a lead, fell behind, came back a bit. I think the majority of the ACC schedule will be extremely frustrating, and encouraging. In the win against Louisville the other night we were 16/33 from the line.

Today, hit 24/28, but got clobbered on the boards.
