In Arlington at i20 and Little Rd is Corky’s Pizza. It’s wood fired New Haven style pizza; the owner moved down here as his wife is from here. He grew up working at Frank Pepe’s Apizza in New Haven which is often recognized as one of the top pizzerias in the country. It’s fantastic.

One of my other favorites is i Fratelli. It’s a hell of a pizza.

Damn, apparently I need to open a pizza place in Arlington. If i Fratelli is considered a hell of a pizza there.

Yeah, I went 7 or 8 years ago when I was looking for a NY style place. Didn’t blow my socks off but if I lived nearby it would probably be in the rotation.

Same here, but it’s been in the last couple years. It was okay. Nothing great, nothing horrible. I was whelmed.

They use 3rd party delivery services so I won’t ever order them again. I’ve boycotted all of them. Worst experience ever and, from what I hear, they are raping these restaurants with no lube…although, the restaurants are the ones choosing to use them, so it’s hard to be too sympathetic.

Dominos got my business (for the big chains) as they’ve outwardly campaigned against delivery services. And Bona has their own delivery people, so I get them now if I don’t feel like a chain.

    tl;dr - FUCK 3rd part delivery services

That bakery in Richardson may be the most unlikely location for a James Beard nominee ever.  That shopping center is an absolute shithole.  I’ll also try it this weekend.

Well, while you're in the burbs, might as well swing through The Branch and check out Best New Restaurant and Best Chef nominee...

I drove down Lemmon the other day and it appears Casa Rosa's sign is up now. Everybody in/around Park Cities is excited for its return. Apparently, it was a thing back before I moved to Dallas in 1998. Going into the former El Fenix on Lemmon just south of Inwood.

Yeah, people are all pumped up about this. I've lived in my neighborhood for a couple years now and have received like 2 total emails from neighbors. Got one the other day pimping the shit out of this restaurant with everyone all excited about it. Like you, it was here before my time. When I first heard about it, I thought they were talking about us getting a Rosa's Cafe 😂

I'm more excited for Julian Barsotti's Tex-Mex place going in Inwood Village personally.

Not saying you're wrong and I hear a lot of buzz about it too, but are we just supposed to assume he can do Tex-Mex? I mean, he doesn't even have the best Italian place in town (top 5 probably), which is his thing. Wondering why everyone just assumes his Tex-Mex is going to be so great?

Ok. So they scour the world for the best beef? They buy whole animals and then process it? and sell it back to restaurants all over the world?

Yeah probably. I was being somewhat satirical. But KC strip doesn’t mean the meat you’re eating is actually from Kansas City and NY strip doesn’t mean it’s from New York. They just originally rose to their popularity from those places. And they’re pretty much the same thing, only the KC one has a bone. I don’t know the history, but I’d guess the strip originated in NY and Kansas City started serving it with the bone attached and called it their own. Kansas City is pretty aggy in that regard…wanna be big city with a bad case of collective little brother napoleon syndrome.

Most restaurant NY strips and Kansas City strips come from Chicago.

I've been to Chicago. Never seen any cattle in Chicago. Texas is the largest cattle producer I believe. Or are most of the slaughter houses in Chicago. Serous question.

I got 2 massive bone-in NY steaks a couple weeks ago for $8/lb. Then I picked up 4 huge boneless NY steaks at $9/lb from Costco this weekend. Choice, not Prime, but still better than a kick in the ass. Oh, and here's the kicker: I live in San Diego. This isn't Amarillo, where you get God's own cow for a buck; this is chicken country (Foster Farms FTW).

What the hell is going on? Like, literally everything else is expensive as fuck, massive increase in price, but suddenly NY Steaks are cheap as hell.

    Still yummy. burp

On our first trip to Vegas, wife was not of age to gamble but that didn’t stop her/us from playing.  She hits something on a slot at the Golden Nugget but panics and walks away.  We’ll never know what it was.  This was back in early 80s.

Reminds me of my first time in a casino ever. I was 16 at the time. It wasn't Vegas, it was some riverboat or dog track with a casino in Illinois or Iowa or some shit. I'm sure it was pretty shitty, but it might as well have been the Wynn for all I knew.

Anyway, went with an older uncle who loved to corrupt the shit out of me. Walked in the door all wide eyed, put a quarter in the first slot machine I saw, pulled the lever and won $1,000 on my first pull. At that age, at that time, that was a fuck ton of money. Uncle was able to cash it out for me, which was cool.

Shitty part was that it likely ruined all gambling for me from that point forward. Spent several years learning the hard way that it doesn't usually work that way. I rarely gamble anymore. And I still blame that uncle for most of my shittiness as an unproductive member of society.

A big reason I can't stand the modern NFL is there is way too much parity.

I don’t get that mentality at all. A big reason I’m being drawn more toward the NFL and away from college these days IS the parity. The only fans I can see not wanting more parity today is Alabama fans.

Do you even witness protection program, bro?

  13. Wife made this Natual Heaven white rice last night. Highly highly recommend. By far the best rice alternative I’ve tried. Haven’t tried any of their other stuff, but if it’s half as good as their white rice, I’m in. Available on Amazon.

I've never been a big fan of steakhouses to begin with.  Overpriced and, like last week, good food but not worth what they charge for it.  I'd much rather spend my money at other kinds of restaurants, especially those that I cannot replicate at home (sushi, Indian, etc).

I hear ya. But the food is only one part of why you go out to eat. Probably not even the most important part, for me anyway.

Ate at Eddie V's in the Arboretum on Friday night and I can confidently say I've completely spoiled myself when it comes to making great steaks.  Got their 22 oz ribeye and I make a better steak than they do.  It was not even close, either.  My wife has told me the same thing.  I guess I'm out on steakhouses going forward.

Seems a little extreme. If I decided to quit going to restaurants every time I ate at a chain and realized I could cook better at home, I'd never go out to eat anymore.

Quick question, admin is booking room for conference in May.  Which is better to stay at these days, Wynn or Encore?

Depends what you're looking for. Pros and cons to both. Encore is nicer/newer, Wynn is better location/near a lot more shit on the property. When we were going a lot, wife prioritized being closer (not having to walk stumble in heals) over the nicer rooms.

Actually the match ups prove horrible. Semis are largely over by mid way through the second quarter. Same teams every year would be fine if the semis were half way decent games. The games themselves are terrible from a product/entertainment perspective. Complete dog shit diarrhea on your shoe bad.

CFP will not be like March madness or the nfl playoffs even with better selections and expansions and the reason why is the lack of parity and that’s only going to get worse.

This cannot be stated enough. CFP expansion won't help. If anything, it will just add more shit games. Parity is the only thing that will help. It's mind boggling that high school football and NFL football can figure that out (for the most part), but college football just keeps eating its own.
