B1G survives on having 3 of the 5 juggernaut fanbases in college football: tOSU, Michigan, Penn State. They just added the 6th most important (simply because of their location and history) in USC and they are chasing the last juggernaut in Notre Dame. The bottom half of their conference is complete bread. They make $ because the juggernaut teams have to play the bread.

SEC is loaded top to bottom. The only reason the $$$ is close between the two conferences remains the fact that the SEC only has one of the 5 juggernaut fanbases: TEXAS. But they then almost have EVERYONE right under those top 6 teams that are worthy of anything. They are LOADED. Vanderbilt is the only team that is not competitive and Mississippi State is the only other team that doesn't bring some kind of value financially.

Cripes, you are becoming insufferable.  You have a good foundation of college football history, but you are not looking at the whole picture.  It's a business. It's been pointed out countless times in public articles for years, and posted by knowledgeable folks on here and other forums that research dollars associated with conference affiliation dwarf tv rights.  The bottom half of the B1G probably generates a shit-ton more dollars for tOSU (not in the upper half academically) than the other way around.  No way USC and UCLA made such a drastic move over $40M annual increase in TV revenues.  Huge reason would be the research dollars they could share in that the SEC cannot even come close to.

Thanks for telling me what a badass you are, Wade! Everyone look at fucking Wade here.

I'm not talking about right now, genius. I'm talking about in the future. There's going to be more consolidation at some point down the line. People used to call me a clown when I said there would be this much conference realignment. You may want to look in the mirror, if ya want to see the fucking clown, Wade.

You've always been an angry drunk, Steve.

There's only 2 teams in the entire SEC that don't belong at the big boy table in football: Mississippi State and Vanderbilt

That's a really strong conference. And MSU is at least competitive and packs their stadium.

    B1G definitely needs some purging:

    - Indiana and Purdue with small fanbases in the same state as Notre Dame

    - Illinois and Northwestern with small fanbases in the same state.

Rutgers and Maryland are borderline but do bring recruiting territory, new geography to play games and some potential.

Not to mention many of the B1G programs that carry their own weight aren't a real threat to beat tOSU and other national powers. USC definitely is much needed in the B1G. They need to add Oregon and ND.

B1G needs to purge anywhere from 2 to 4 teams and remain selective with any additions.

This is a clown take (and didn't you already post it).  B1G isn't purging anyone, much less three of its founding members or another that's been a member for 123 years.

Y'all talking about Danger Zone to open, but how about before the movie even starts, when they still have the producer credits up and the gong starts?  I did a dorky double fist pump of excitement and my kid was like WTF?

  5. Went to DL yesterday with family.  Although the park did not seem overly crowded, the ride wait times were atrocious.  Even mediocre rides were an hour or more wait.

Kids and wife wanted to go on Splash Mtn, so while they waited in that 80 minute line, I mosied on over to Rise of the Resistance.  Figured I'd take that punishing two hour wait so we'd be close by the time they were done with Splash.  Got there and it was down, and they weren't letting people get in line.  Figured I'd just wait.  About a half-hour later it was back up and a crowd rush to the entrance.  By fortune I had planted myself by the chosen cattle chute and was near the front.

Within minutes I was in the cave and the line was moving worryingly fast.  Got probalby 3/4s of the way there when the 1 pm of passholders arrived, and line slowed to a crawl.  Kids and wife eventually got to me and as we were literally steps away from getting on, the ride broke down again.  So, thought I was going to be the hero, but we ended up waiting another 40 minutes anyway.

As an aside, that ride sure does break down a lot.  At least one-third of the times we've been in line it was gone down.

But it is amazing.  There was a young couple in front of us, first timers.  The look on their faces was priceless.

I have been on board with this show the whole time though, as it and he has taken a darker turn, I’m fascinated/baffled as to how they’ll be able to stick the landing when it comes to a series finale.

    There's another season

  7. Rewatching Season 2.  Thought Pablo Schreiber, who played Nick, was amazing.  Surprised he didn't become a bigger star.  Didn't know he is Liev Schreber's half-brother.

We make fun of Tom Cruise but that man is a fucking national treasure for entertaining the fuck out of us. We are going to severely miss him when he finally dies doing a crazy ass stunt for a movie.

CSB: I saw Risky Business at the theater first release, stoned as hell.  High school sex movies were abundant in those days, but this one was different.  I knew Cruise was going to be a star (not to this level or duration though).

Loving Top Gun II made be go down the rabbit hole of Cruise's recent work.  I had no idea the level of stunts the dude was going in MI episodes.  Background videos show he is all about entertaining the audience.  That's refreshing in this world.

Supposedly, he insisted on limited CGI on Top Gun II, and wouldn't do it without Kilmer.  Not sure if true, but hope so.  Also, the producer of Top Gun said he had 30 minutes to pitch a reluctant Cruise on the sequel, but when he sold him, Cruise immediately picked up the phone, and told (not asked) the head of Paramount that they were doing a sequel.  Power.

Lastly, as someone alluded, the studio doing MI sequels 6 and 7 (or 7 and 8 ) must be creaming their shorts with these opening numbers.

Henri and Sam competing for the most phone numbers. Sam breaking out his Babe Kit. Henri winning, but Sam leaving for the night with multiple women on his arms while the bar regulars chant "U-S-A!!!" was so great.

I had tears when he pulled out the Members Only jacket.

    Co-sign.

I think The Last Patrol is absolutely one of the best episodes for the reasons you pointed out.

The way they play the contrast between Colin Hanks, young and fresh out of West Point, and Weber, fresh from the hospital after being injured in Market-Garden, with the rest of the battle-weary company that had just been through Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge was striking and brilliant.

And also showing how the decision-making process works during war when things are winding down and both sides see the end in sight was very telling.

Amazing episode.  Sink (who I liked immensely up to that point) callously disregarding the lives of his men in order to score bragging points with another successful patrol, and Winters, absolutely disgusted by the whole thing.  Weber being treated like a piece of shit because he missed Bastogne, and as mentioned earlier, the change in Malarkey.

  11. Saw Top Gun Maverick today for second time with family (all of us obviously loved it).  I'm about Cruise's age, and have been looking forward to this nostalgic event as a reminder of the simpler times of the '80s, and being young, strong and healthy.

There's a scene early in the movie where Cruise surreptitiously observes the young, hotshot pilots interacting at a bar.  The juxtaposition of Cruise today vs. the young Cruise of memory and these young pilots hit me square in the face that our time is past, and we really are the down slope of life.  Hit me pretty damn hard.

Watched the OG tonight to prep for the sequel tomorrow. I have not watched it since probably ‘95.

The music during the flight scenes had us rolling. It was either some middle school level Casio keyboard tune or a weird new age wanky guitar solo.

The sequel has to be better because there’s nothing to the original.

    Wow.  You guys are cool.

If you drive up the 15 from San Diego toward Riverside there there's a place called Nessy Burger in the middle of nowhere at an exit in Fallbrook that gas quite the follow. Haven't been down there in years, but thanks to this thread Im happy see that they are still going strong.

Used to drive down 76 to the 15 for years when SIL lived in Murrieta. Wasn't aware of this place, however maybe a quarter mile away, in the parking lot of the gas station near the interstate exit was a literal kiosk selling burgers for years.  Every time we passed it was packed with customers.  Never got a chance to try it cause we were always heading to a family meal event.  Saw it no longer exists unfortunately.

  14. One of the most entertaining elements of BCS is the depiction of years of blood, sweat and tears that Mike and especially Gus and his partners at Madrigal put into making that underground lab a reality.

And Walt burned the whole fucking thing to the ground within a couple of months of being hired, lol.

Puts Mike's evisceration of Walt in BB that sets Walt into a murderous rage into perspective.

  15. Agree, cute pics.  Family has an annual pass at Disneyland and we've must have been close to 20 times the past few months.  I have never experienced a crowd remotely as sparse as reflected in those pics.  All of those areas would be wall to wall people.  Hell, if the crowd was like that I'd actually enjoy going.

Good on ya, hope the rest of the trip is the same!

  16. Son's confirmation is coming up.  Couple months back wife asks if we can join the family of his best buddy (who live in the same city as us) in a celebratory dinner at Benihanas (picked by mother of his best friend) after the event.

    "I guess, whatever."

Generally, the events I've agreed to for the wife don't start become real in my head until the event nears.  Confirmation is this Wednesday, so I ask, "where is there a Benihanas near here anyway".

    "Oh, it's in Irvine"

Thirty fucking miles away.  To go to Benihanas.

Actually, they took a lot of liberties with the record.  Westhead was 50-18 with the Lakers that year.  There was one 3 game losing streak in late November, road games against then elite teams.  Rest of the season there were only two instances of even a two game losing streak.  That bs drama of losing horribly to the worst teams in the league was just stupid.

I've enjoyed the series a lot, mostly for the Jerry Buss financial drama, but if this is how they took liberties on the publicly available bball side, I can't imagine how far they went on the private side.

great example of why one should read through rest of thread before responding to something.  Others communicated my annoyances much better
