Punished? I don't know. I regret them though.

If you think they should be illegal, it seems to follow that you think people who solicit them, pay for them, and perform them should be somehow punished if they violate the proposed prohibitions against soliciting them, paying for them, and performing them. Yet only a tiny fraction of abortion opponents ever actually want to punish those involved. A slightly larger number are ok with punishing the doctors who perform them, but only them. Given the severity of the activity complained about (murder, holocaust, etc.), the discomfort abortion opponents feel with supporting any legal repercussions is interesting, to say the least. Most people have no problem enthusiastically supporting life sentences if not the death penalty for other forms of murder.

Are you suggesting PP IS a non-profit. YOU should go look it up!

Yes, because it is a registered nonprofit corporation. You seem to have a misconception about what that means. A nonprofit isn't an organization that doesn't receive money for services, it is an organization that uses any surplus revenues to further its stated objective, rather than paying them out to shareholders or members. You may be thinking of a charity, which PP has never claimed to be.

Yeah, Cohen helping him acquire all the properties doesn’t make sense.  One, the real estate deals started years ago before Trump took over GOP politics.  Second, it would be bizarre for a NYC lawyer to form the LLCs as Georgia companies instead of NY or Delaware.  Third, you wouldn’t get a NY lawyer to be your outside counsel on real estate deals in all these other states.  Fourth, Cohen is a dumb fixer, and Hannity presumably has dealt with real lawyers at some point in his 20 years of being a national tv host and would have used those guys on his $90,000,000 in deals.

I am guessing he engaged Cohen for shadier things.

It's not really out of the ordinary for a lawyer to represent a local client in a real estate transaction concerning property located in another state. However, using a NY wanna-be mob goon lawyer to form Georgia LLCs certainly would be unusual. It's much more likely that Hannity has experienced and legitimate real estate attorneys to handle his acquisitions, and a criminal attorney to handle his crime.

PS. Did you think I expected mine to be the popular opinion? YOU asked for it and I answered it honestly. Why does that scare you?

Do you or do you not think that you should be punished for having paid for abortions by the law? Do you or do you not think that the women whose abortions you paid for should be punished by the law?

As a side note, you should go look up what "non-profit" means.

Losing really bad forces the recentering is the point.

There's a decent chance right now that the Dems get ~55% of the total midterm vote and still don't take the House. As of right now, it would take a near-miracle for them to take the Senate. Barring nuclear war or an economic catastrophe, Trumpism isn't going to lose nearly badly enough for the GOP to decide it needs to be abandoned.

This. This should be automatically disqualifying for literally any job that requires any amount of intelligence or basic judgment whatsoever.

Y'all know I cut Trump zero slack...but the question here is "what are the odds that Trump uses an anti-semetic term to describe a jewish reporter?"  Well, the odds are pretty good, and they're good that it has nothing to do with the slur or Chuck Todd being jewish.  Trump makes up so many fucking insulting nicknames, like the fucking first-grader that he is, that some of those terms are bound to have some secondary meaning.  And if he was well-read or culturally aware at all, we might reasonably conclude that he knew of and meant that secondary meaning.

Here, I think it's just the fact that Trump slings so much invective and so many childish nicknames that there's bound to be overlap with some offensive secondary meaning from time to time, but that's not what Trump meant.  Trump's nicknames are not much more sophisticated than "poopyhead," so let's not give him credit for being more creative or clever than that.

I'm sure he'd heard Stephen Miller refer to Chuck Todd as "sleepy eyed" and stole it.

Why?  It looks like that's exactly what Cohen did for him.

Have you ever bought an investment property?  There is nothing shady about opening up LLCs to do your real estate transactions.  It actually helps keep everything clean and organized for the IRS.  Considering the volume he was dealing with, it would have been a fucking nightmare to deal with expenses if he didn't do it that way.

That's not what Hannity said Cohen did for him.

So your mom worked hard and made something of herself, and you benefited from that just as Johnny Sack benefited from his grandfather.  This is an immigrant country.  99% of us don't come from the King of England, so at some point one of our ancestor's got off his/her dirt patch and insured a better life for his/her offspring.  Its great that your mom made something of herself, but how many generations of fattyflatties floundered before your grandparents worked hard and your mother broke free?  What Johnny doesn't understand is that African American's have only had 3 generations of even getting a shot at the plate.  He's standing on the shoulders of giants but believes he's just 20 feet tall by himself.  Very few African Americans have had a chance to put their grandchildren in Johnny's position.  It isn't that Johnny hasn't worked hard.  It isn't even that he was born on 3rd base like Trump.  Its that he watched his grandpa play the game, he learned how to hit, and he was given the right equipment to play.  African Americans have not had that.  And to carry on the baseball metaphor, sometimes they even knew their dad could hit but they watched him get a called strike 3 on a ball that was 15 feet outside.  Gen X was the first generation that made big inroads in fairness at the plate.   The next generation will be the first that was born with a fair shake.  In a few more generations, there will be more black Johnny's and fattyflatties.  And maybe they will take their "golden ticket" for granted just as Johnny takes his for granted now.

And other police forces will come around.  The NYPD push is for community policing and much of that is modeling the force around the makeup of the community it polices, and its worked much better than Stop and Frisk did, much to the chagrin of Trumpers.

To add on, there theoretically could be a lot more black people today who had successful grandparents and great grandparents, except for the fact that successful black people who would now be grandparents or great grandparents were sometimes brutally murdered for being black and successful.

According to this guys analysis, Comey is a monster. He uses double sentence spacing and capricious font selection.

Double sentence spacing should be a felony.

I don't think the way to go about this is to disparage Johnny Sack for his relative "privileged" upbringing in the work force.  He could have fucked it up, but he didn't.

That said, how many African-Americans have a  grandfather from the depression era without a college degree that started a business that made them millionaires?  Can we at least acknowledge that racial discrimination pretty much wouldn't allow that to happen back then?  Can we recognize that African-Americans typically don't have those success stories in their family that have a hugely positive effect on their kids and grandkids?

I really don't see why this is so hard for some people. Because of our history, and because of structures and institutions in our society that persist to this day, it is easier for white people in America to achieve nearly anything than it is for black people. How hard is that to acknowledge? That doesn't mean it's impossible for black people to achieve things, but it is a problem that we should seek to correct. But too many white people can't even acknowledge that basic fact because they're too insecure to admit that they didn't earn 100% of whatever success they've enjoyed by their own hard work.

Gotta call a little bullshit on that one. There wss no reason for Comey to send the letter to congress at that time as he knew an immediate leak would occur by republicans. Sending that letter was the same as leaking it himself.

You especially don't send it when you haven't determined if there was anything there. You start the investigation of new evidence and only advance forward if there are any conclusions that can be made for charges after it us completed... the same as any other FBI investigation. If doing this is proper protocol then why didn't he inform congress by letter of the investigation into trump that hadn't completed?

His reasoning for the leak letter was he was afraid his NY office was going to leak anyway after the info was discovered from Weiner's wife's computer? So you say because as director I have no control over my department leaking anyway I'm going to just go ahead and leak myself? That's a terrible rationalization.

The proper play was to conduct the investgation of new info with the same protocol as any other investigation but Comey decided to get political and it bit him in the ass.

    "

Officials at the D.O.J. tried to convince the F.B.I. that all Comey had promised Congress was that he would take a look at new information, that he risked creating another misimpression by sending a letter, that doing this so close to an election was insanity, and that “the overwhelming odds are that this will amount to nothing,” as one former official puts it.

One argument that the F.B.I gave in response was that now that the circle had become much bigger, including agents in New York, the probability of a leak was high and would only increase once the request for the warrant was filed. “Yes, it was absolutely explicit that one reason for the letter was that the agents in New York would leak it,” says a Justice Department source. “That is a crappy reason. You can’t manage your people? And a leak would have been better than what happened.” (In fact, on the morning of November 4, Giuliani returned to Fox & Friends, to gloat, “Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it.” Later that day, he tweeted, “I still challenge someone to produce proof of my direct involvement w @fbi.”)"

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/02/james-comey-fbi-director-letter/amp

Comey had a simple way to ensure that his letter to Congress wouldn't get leaked: in addition to informing them of the re-opening of the Clinton investigation, inform them that the FBI had opened an investigation into Trump's campaign. Jason Chaffetz would have buried that letter 50 feet under the ground. Why didn't he do that? And why, instead of sending any letter, didn't he put the fear of god into the NY office to ensure they don't meddle in the election?

Comey officially acknowledging the re-opening on the Clinton investigation in the manner he did was much more damaging to Hillary's campaign than some anonymous leaks from the NY office would have been. He fucked up, and he fucked up as badly as he possibly could have in that situation.

With regards to paying your mortgage that has already been obtained? How so?

Might want to check the numbers on the type of loans given to black people vs other groups with comparable credit ratings and savings. Also the subject that has been discussed here ad naseum wrt housing policies contributes to this in a myriad of ways. One being that black neighborhoods don't appreciate at near the rate of white neighborhoods of comparable median household incomes. Therefore any loss in value is much more devastating.

One of the most difficult parts of these discussions is the fact that guys like spanky don't realize what they don't know, and are sure that their lack of knowledge of something is proof that it didn't happen. He's utterly unaware of the fact that many prime-grade minority borrowers, who didn't even apply for subprime loans, were nonetheless fraudulently given subprime loans prior to the housing market collapse because those were more valuable to the lenders.

    That is very well put.

I've had trouble explaining how it's both easier being a white man, yet not everything is just simply handed to me.

I mainly don't have to worry about the obstacles of false assumption, nor do I ever have to think twice about how I'm representing my race. A white man born out of the 1% has to work and those starting at the bottom have to work damn hard. Recognizing that it's harder for people of color and women doesn't diminish a white man's own work.

Scalzi has a good way of explaining white privilege to dipshits:

    Quote

I've been thinking of a way to explain to straight white men how life works for them, without invoking the dreaded word "privilege," to which they react like vampires being fed a garlic tart at high noon. It's not that the word "privilege" is incorrect, it's that it's not their word. When confronted with "privilege," they fiddle with the word itself, and haul out the dictionaries and find every possible way to talk about the word but not any of the things the word signifies.

So, the challenge: how to get across the ideas bound up in the word "privilege," in a way that your average straight white man will get, without freaking out about it?

Being a white guy who likes women, here's how I would do it:

Dudes. Imagine life here in the US - or indeed, pretty much anywhere in the Western world - is a massive role playing game, like World of Warcraft except appallingly mundane, where most quests involve the acquisition of money, cell phones and donuts, although not always at the same time. Let's call it The Real World. You have installed The Real World on your computer and are about to start playing, but first you go to the settings tab to bind your keys, fiddle with your defaults, and choose the difficulty setting for the game. Got it?

Okay: In the role playing game known as The Real World, "Straight White Male" is the lowest difficulty setting there is.

This means that the default behaviors for almost all the non-player characters in the game are easier on you than they would be otherwise. The default barriers for completions of quests are lower. Your leveling-up thresholds come more quickly. You automatically gain entry to some parts of the map that others have to work for. The game is easier to play, automatically, and when you need help, by default it's easier to get.

Now, once you've selected the "Straight White Male" difficulty setting, you still have to create a character, and how many points you get to start - and how they are apportioned - will make a difference. Initially the computer will tell you how many points you get and how they are divided up. If you start with 25 points, and your dump stat is wealth, well, then you may be kind of screwed. If you start with 250 points and your dump stat is charisma, well, then you're probably fine. Be aware the computer makes it difficult to start with more than 30 points; people on higher difficulty settings generally start with even fewer than that.

As the game progresses, your goal is to gain points, apportion them wisely, and level up. If you start with fewer points and fewer of them in critical stat categories, or choose poorly regarding the skills you decide to level up on, then the game will still be difficult for you. But because you're playing on the "Straight White Male" setting, gaining points and leveling up will still by default be easier, all other things being equal, than for another player using a higher difficulty setting.

Likewise, it's certainly possible someone playing at a higher difficulty setting is progressing more quickly than you are, because they had more points initially given to them by the computer and/or their highest stats are wealth, intelligence and constitution and/or simply because they play the game better than you do. It doesn't change the fact you are still playing on the lowest difficulty setting.

You can lose playing on the lowest difficulty setting. The lowest difficulty setting is still the easiest setting to win on. The player who plays on the "Gay Minority Female" setting? Hardcore.

And maybe at this point you say, hey, I like a challenge, I want to change my difficulty setting! Well, here's the thing: In The Real World, you don't unlock any rewards or receive any benefit for playing on higher difficulty settings. The game is just harder, and potentially a lot less fun. And you say, okay, but what if I want to replay the game later on a higher difficulty setting, just to see what it's like? Well, here's the other thing about The Real World: You only get to play it once. So why make it more difficult than it has to be? Your goal is to win the game, not make it difficult.

Oh, and one other thing. Remember when I said that you could choose your difficulty setting in The Real World? Well, I lied. In fact, the computer chooses the difficulty setting for you. You don't get a choice; you just get what gets given to you at the start of the game, and then you have to deal with it.

So that's "Straight White Male" for you in The Real World (and also, in the real world): The lowest difficulty setting there is. All things being equal, and even when they are not, if the computer—or life—assigns you the "Straight White Male" difficulty setting, then brother, you've caught a break.
