  1. I have a ton of movies on my to-watch list that I'm determined to get through this year. Here are some recent ones that I had never seen before.

Whiplash - JK Simmons was incredible in this role, brought back memories of my time in Symphonic Band where I was basically a warm body

Lion - amazing movie, about a 5 year-old in India who gets separated from his family, adopted by a couple from Australia, then goes back to find his family after 25 years

2001- watched this last night and still don't know what to think. Totally didn't get the symbolism at the end with the star child and the astronaut seeing himself as a much older person. Music was really good and pulling off a movie about space in 1968 must have been crazy.

I went to Colombia last February as part of a Spanish immersion trip, we spent a week in Medellín and I didn't want to come home. I never felt unsafe for a second, and the people I interacted with were all incredibly friendly. There's just a vibe or energy you get just from being there, it was hard to explain but I couldn't get enough of it. I'm really tempted to go back even with Covid but it wouldn't be the same. Really hoping to go by the late summer or fall. I think they've totally left the drug thing behind, nobody really speaks of Escobar anymore.

I was there at the same time and had the same experience. I did Cartagena, Medellin, Salento, and Bogota. Cartagena was too touristy for my taste. Medellin was definitely the highlight. Did y'all stay in Poblado?

Believe so, we stayed in two really nice hotels there, in the middle of the week we stayed at a cabin-type place in the mountains and it was amazing.  No desire to go to Cartagena since it's so touristy and a cruise ship destination that old people can just check off on their list of countries visited.  I heard Salenta was really nice, and I know several people who live in Bogotá and would love to go there someday. There definitely seems to be kind of a rivalry between people who live in Bogotá and Medellín

  3. Yep... I'd love to visit Columbia some time in the near future as part of a South America trip.    Cartagena and Bogota are very vibrant cities like Buenos Aires and Santiago.
With Mexico,  I thought AMLO's main goal was to make that peace with the cartels, but to date it's not even close to being accomplished.   In fact it's probably where it was at before he took office.

  4. Nice I’m working on my Spanish, and Netflix beats the hell of Rosetta Stone.

Good stuff. I taught myself starting about four years ago and I'm basically obsessed with the language. All my phone settings are in Spanish which is why that message is always at the bottom of my posts and I'm too lazy to figure out how to get rid of it.

PM me if you want any good podcast suggestions, YouTube channels or any other resource ideas depending on how much you want to learn.

  5. Other than Narcos, and solid Spanish shows?
I really liked Distrito Salvaje, only two seasons so you can watch it quickly.

Introduced the wife to La Casa de Las Flores, she seems to like it so far and it's pretty entertaining.

I heard La Reina del Flow was pretty good as well.

  6. Colombia is amazing. I spent a week in Medellín with an immersion group in February before the bottom fell out and I never wanted to come home. The city just had an enormous energy to it and I felt like I was at home. I'm really hoping to get back there later this year if things improve enough.

  7. Somebody tell me about Mass Effect since I've never played any of the series before, and with the Remaster coming out in the spring, I think I'll jump into it.  It should give me plenty of time to finish up with Mario Odyssey and start/finish BOTW.

So tell me about the game, please tell me it's not super bloated like some of the Assassin's Creed games have been lately.  How many hours to progress through the story of the trilogy?  I heard Andromeda wasn't really that good, so is it skippable?

l'm a sucker for good video game music and Interstellar is one of my favorite movies, and the ME series from what I've seen definitely gives off that kind of vibe.  Can't wait.

  8. Week 2 is when it really hits hard.  Glad he took your advice and got checked out.  It's no joke.  Week one was "ah, this isn't that bad. . ." then boom - death warmed over.
I'm really worried that Christmastime will feature overflowing hospitals and morgues.  Staying isolated for Thanksgiving is just against American DNA.
It's chilling that a year ago Covid wasn't on ANYONE'S radar.
I mean damn, I went to Colombia in February and everything was normal. We rode in buses, ate at restaurants, etc. Even in the Miami airport on the way home, I asked a few of the people who happened to have connecting flights who would be interested in coming back next year. I can't even believe Covid was only a few weeks away and it was hardly a blip on our radar

  9. Sorry to read that story. Hope everyone gets better.
the problem with letting your guard down is that it only takes one person in a group to get everyone sick.
"You only got to f*** up once. Be a little slow, be a little late. Just once. And how you ain’t gonna never be slow, never be late? You can’t plan for no sh*t like this, man. It’s life."

  10. This game is being talked about for GOTY and I just found out about it recently after buying a Switch. Downloaded it for $20 and so far it's pretty fun but I've spent very little time on it so far.  Anyone else playing it right now?  The art design is really cool and the soundtrack is great too.

  11. I would definitely get the Nintendo Pro Controller, I think it's $60 on Amazon and stores will price match

The Amfilm screen protector from Amazon is only about 8 dollars and is really good.

  12. I love the AC series but Odyssey was too much for me.  Just way too big and I think I only finished about half of it because I knew with the DLC and everything that I would never finish.  Interested to see if Valhalla is as big or bigger.  I miss the Ezio trilogy where the games took around 30 hours or so and that was it.

  13. Are these still really hard to come by?  I converted to Xbox back in 2012 but grew up a Nintendo fanboy.  I want a Switch this fall to play BotW as well as Odyssey and some other games.  My birthday is at the end of the month so I know my wife is looking for one.  I still get the Twitter account notifications that tell you when one becomes available, but are they really still hard to get?

Also, I want the regular and not the Lite, right?  Don't really care about it being portable and I want to use it as a console on the big screen.

  14. Anyone else enjoying the snowflake meltdown on social media as much as me? I've been unfriended/blocked by 11 people since the Longhorn game ended. Thats not why they did it. That's just when I started pointing out their personal shortcomings.
They are a fragile bunch. I posted a picture of a brewery we visited Friday night and yesterday one of my Trump supporter friends commented that she hoped I enjoyed it because we'd all be locked down soon.

  15. I know so many people that I grew up with in Texas that just look the other way. They’re essentially voting against the “woke liberal mob” and they’re voting for “supporting police” with their fake American flag that they changed the colors of (yet kaepernick was the one who disrespected the flag lol). I don’t think they’re bad people, but their priorities are so fucked I have a hard time believing I’ll ever be as close with them again. They definitely aren’t racist, but I can’t fuck with people that tolerate or look the other way from racism for their own personal beliefs.
This is kinda where I am. I can understand voting for him once, but if you do it again after the last four years I really don't want to spend much time with you. The cognitive dissonance of knowing the same old lady who lives two doors down that brings us spaghetti is the same person who voted for Trump a second time is really hard to reconcile, and I have a lot of other relationships where it'll always be in the back of my head who they supported. I really feel like in several years you won't be able to get a lot of people to admit they supported Trump. I've also seen lots of stories of people already getting rid of their Trump flags and other maga crap

  16. As an adult, I have never felt the need to own a flag for whatever reason.
Bought one today out of nowhere and it’s going up tomorrow.
Boots Riley, Tribe Called Quest, Run the Jewels and Public Enemy playing at max volume on the deck until Chapelle goes on.  May have bought an offensive amount Gritty gear, but fuck it.  Old Forrester Prohibition to bring it home.

What kind of Gritty gear we talking? If this is the new way to troll Trump supporters then I'm interested.
