  1. My sister in law is in nursing school and has been working on the Covid floor. We saw her briefly on Saturday night, and this morning she had a fever of 101 and a scratchy throat so she's getting a test today. I think we're probably in the clear but she just saw her parents two days ago, and they definitely have comorbidities.

If she gets her results back tomorrow and tests negative, is there any chance it could be a false negative because of lack of viral load?

If either one of her parents gets it, it's gonna be really bad.

  2. There was an 5.1 earthquake in North Carolina early Sunday morning for the first time in nearly 100 years, that great.
Fucking crows were all rowdy as fuck today.
I had to kill some snakes hiding in the rocks behind my house, not nice ones.
I'm waiting for the next Malaysia airplane to disappear.
I have a craving to listen to a Suzanne Vega album.
I think you've seen me before.
I live in NC and the epicenter was about 2 hours from where I live. A bunch of glasses and small bottles on my wife's vanity started shaking, probably lasted 10 seconds. Never experienced an earthquake before so that was pretty crazy

  3. Loved Schitts Creek.  It was a little like Kims for me in that it took me a handful of episodes to get hooked.  I love it. It's probably Top 7 or so comedies for me ever.
Didn't care for working moms but I may revisit it later.  Watched S1.
I'm thinking I might end up liking Kims nearly as much as Schitts Creek.
My wife and I just started it few days ago and we were in from the first episode. We're about halfway through Season 1 and the writing is just killing us

  4. When I was about five, my dad took my brother and I in his pickup to the bank. We were sitting in the front bench seat, and my dad left the truck running while he went inside to the ATM. Either me or my brother knocks the truck into reverse, and it starts rolling slowly into traffic. My dad looks up just in time, runs out and stops the truck before it rolls backwards into the street. Probably would have died if he had looked up just a little later.

  5. They did some antibody testing in New York and even they were nowhere near close to herd immunity.  It is a pipe dream.  There are 326 million people in this country and we are at just under 4 million confirmed cases.  That's .01%.  We would have to get between 195 and 228 million cases for herd immunity.  Our hospitals cannot handle that many people needing treatment so the death rate would go up to horrifying levels.

This will probably be a dumb question, but what defines the boundaries of herd immunity? If it's defined as an entire geographical area, we're screwed because like you said that would be 228 million people, but can it be applied to small cities or towns where the percentage of infected would reach those levels?

  6. If you'll recall folks (in this thread at least) weren't saying the protests didn't likely contribute to the surge, but rather that they were another bump up on top of the early reopening and everyone going back to bars without facemasks.
The protest truthers tell on themselves when they omit crowded beaches, bars, failed political rallies, and yelling at cops to open Olive Garden from their explanations about why numbers went up

  7. Interesting thread.
I have to be honest, I've been back in the US now for almost 6 years and I really think I'm getting close to pushing off. I love so much about America.....the food, sports, the weather, the comforts, the National Parks, the street rod scene, the great cities, little luxuries like having a DRYER, seeing my parents every day, etc. etc.
The big problem I have with America is simply the people. I'm actually getting to the point where I'm just getting burned out on Americans. The entitlement, the constant unsolicited opinions, the victimhood, the complete lack of self-awareness. I could go on and on. There are lots of good people in the States....but the selfishness here drives me bananas.
People here are so about themselves. It's the Land Of The Me. You can't tell anybody here what to do regardless if it's for the common good.  I spent 18 years mostly in Asia with people that realize a simple thing like wearing a mask is the best thing for the common good of the society. It's 'we', not 'me'. These fuggin American assholes are more worried about ridiculous conspiracy theories and 'liberal media' outlets. GTFO. If you don't want to wear a motorcycle helmet or a seatbelt, cool. I honestly don't care at all if you die in a motorcycle wreck. Free country. But when you refuse to take measures to protect others? That's where I have a problem. You just knew the Americans were going to completely screw up this Covid deal.
Did you ever have that friend in your 20's that was just constant drama and at a certain point you just had to cut that person out of your life? Man, that's where I'm at with this country. I've never lived anywhere with this amount of constant drama. It's honestly no wonder so many people here suffer from depression and anxiety. The culture is completely nuts.
I agree with a lot of your post. Where did you live beforehand?

  8. So serious question.  Is Hamilton America’s greatest artistic achievement since the first two Godfathers?
i watched tonight for first time and was floored.  I purposely never spoiled myself on the musical.  I also really love Les Mis and can’t stand most musicals.  So do with that what you may as to my taste.  But Hamilton as a musical is a Smithsonian level achievement.  I expect to see the forehead mics in that museum soon enough.
My wife and I just watched this tonight and I was floored. I've seen a few musicals on Broadway such as Fiddler on the Roof and Phantom and they were great and I enjoyed them like anyone else would, but this was incredible. I'm probably going to be up for another few hours just reading about it. King George III and Thomas Jefferson stole the show, but everyone was just so freaking talented.

You're right, that guy is a lonely needle dick.
    In other disturbing Covid-19 news:
    https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/22/us/health-officials-threats-coronavirus/index.html
I heard one or two stories about this back in April, but it's still rampantly taking place in our country.  Today.  Literally thousands of public health officials have their lives and their families threatened for continuing to recommend/require essential social distancing orders.  Nobody has a problem with these people when they issue a 'boil your water' notice, but they close down a bingo parlor and suddenly someone threatens to murder their children.  Real nice.
Andy Slavitt alluded to this yesterday:

  10. How do you think this ends in the United States? The virus isn't going anywhere and you still see so much resistance to the idea of wearing a mask. I'm just struggling to think about the endgame and how long it will take to get there. I'm in NC but I check these forums quite a bit and I'm legit worried about you all in Texas right now.

  11. A friend of mine on FB posted this picture today, and another acquaintance tried to explain it away as the results of more testing. Where can I find a chart showing how the positivity rate is increasing more than what it should be? If you're testing a bunch more people, than ideally the positivity rate should be declining or at least staying the same, and I don't think that's happeningf942117ee2b8ba3fda1ed5b72132fcfa.jpg

  12. And the challenge is, they play the dueling banjos of idiocy.
First, it's "MAH FREEDOMS!  You can't make me!  Live free or die!  Like the eagle flies!"
Then, it's "if it was so important, why was it just a request?  It should have been required, and then we'd have to do it!"
We can't win for losing -- no matter which banjo is played, the tune is in the key of "moron."
The same thing is happening here in NC. Yesterday the governor mandated masks in all indoor and outdoor areas because our numbers keep increasing so much, and all the rubes are criticizing him for waiting so long knowing full well if he had tried the same thing two months ago, they would have yelled about their rights and freedoms.

  13. I'm sure Jussie Smollett was the one who hired a plane to pull a Confederate flag over the track yesterday, too.

Yeah you would never expect something like that to happen in the great state of
    *Checks notes*

    Alabama.

  14. I'm holding out for the "Jussie Factor," not that i suspect Wallace, but someone not on the crazy assed, insane white boy contingent.
My guess is, we'll never know.
Lolwut. There were cameras and I think there's a 100% chance they find out who did it. I don't think there's any way it's a Jussie Smollett situation, lots of racists on my Twitter and Facebook feeds who wasted no time in saying it was staged though. Looking forward to blocking a few hours out of my time tonight reading all their apologies.
