CSB so far back in time that my hair was on my head and not my back, I would squire around this chica mexicana and we would start our bar crawls at the local "Mexican" (groundbeef everything) joint to build up an absorbent base. She would dog-cuss me because I didn't order in Spanish.
I'm like, "Dude talked to me in English so I talked to him in English back." But at last, worn down by La Muy Mandona's disdain, I puzzled through an order in Spanish slightly better than Peggy Hill. Used half the verb tenses, probably improperly, but damn if the language of Cervantes didn't stumble from my lips.
Her turn: "Veinticinco."
/CSB
I'm just now comfortable saying "chile toreado." But most of the time, if my wife's ordering one (with her asada taco), I'll tell her to get two. She be mexicana and doesn't speak spanish to them either unless she has to.
Funny story. New young mexican lady started working at this gas station next to work years ago. White fella ahead of me tells her he's getting the beer and counts his change, all in spanish to this lady. He walks off, I step up with my beer and she looks down and says, "uhmm, I like, uh, speak perfect english?"

*4. If you're white and legit speak spanish fluently, go ahead. If you don't, trust me: they know the numbers. They know what "please" means. "Thank you." "Yes." "No." "Water." "Tea." "THAT SPECIAL SALS'R Y'ALLS KEEP IN THE BACK OV'THERE!"

The only brisket taco I’ll ever eat is when it’s leftover from a prior nights bbq and it’s mixed in with egg. What he’s eating there is a glorified wrap. Blasphemy.
I dunno man, a little bit of onion, cilantro and a chile toreado.. mmmmm

Not bad.
Probably never happen, but as shitty as air travel is, seems like a good time for trains to make a comeback.
Have considered taking the kids on a small train trip. My mom took me on one out to Tuscon to visit my cousins/aunt and uncle when I was 6, it was pretty badass.

You live in Russia?
Ba. Ha. Ha.
No, just means I never really consider Europe. So I'll drive to Maine some day when I have enough time.

Hahahaha. We used to go to Europe in the summer for a big trip. Couldn’t in 2020 and did a great tour of the American southwest instead, in our suv. We didn’t even shave the roof off going under a low bridge or anything. It was awesome. So now we do this every summer across America somewhere and Europe after Christmas. The kids have ipads and phones and movies to deal with and hardly ever whine except when hungry or needing to pee.
Next year we’re flying in to Portland, ME and doing 3 weeks around New England and Montreal. You guys don’t know what you’re missing.
Given the turbulence of the industry of my day job this year, I fucking wish I was in hydraulics.
Portland, ME and Europe are on my bucket list. Unfortunately I cannot stand flying, so Portland, ME will have to wait a while.

I live here and don’t know anyone that calls it that at all. Maybe I don’t know enough old white people. But shit even the few I do know don’t call it that.
Grew up 85 miles southeast of there, and have known and know people from there. Though not exclusively, I've heard "Antone" all of my life. My uncle, who lived off 1604 for 30+ years (Converse, then Calaveras way) still calls it that.

No one and I mean no one but George Strait can or should use San Antone. If we do that we might as well start going full douche and try to pretend like we are NYC but using terms like the SATX and using abbreviations for neighborhoods.
I love George Strait just like the next guy, but it's peak San "Antonio" to forget about the OG San "Antone" using mf'er: SA's own Doug Sahm. The fact that San Antone doesn't have a statue of that man smack dab in the middle of the city is horse shit.
If it was okay for Doug Sahm, it's okay for anybody.

Those guys were both having fun. It was clearly friendly. I'd say the presence of laughter makes it fall outside the boundaries or trash talk.
To me, trash talk is cocky and goading. I've never liked it, but it's part of the game now.
I'd say trash talk can involve plenty of laughter, as it's not always between mortal enemies, and often time between friends... but toward the end it appears the laughter is kinda dying down as the talk continues. Excellent trash talk.

The sub's title should be San Antone, btw.

Team desperately needs someone like Collins to step up and finally play to his potential.
I'd be much more concerned if last year was an issue of squandering talent. Still not the most desirable situation to be in defensively, but I just don't see it being worse. Add in having an actual QB and 17 legit receivers and bijan robinson and an improved OL and that's where my optimism comes from. But there are two sides to all of that, so I can see just 7 wins etc...

Even with all of that dumbassery last season
Here's the thing about the dumbassery last season: it was a result of the non-dumbassed/correct way of running a defense ALSO not working.
If the talent is a little better, and the coaching figures out a way to overcome not having all of the talent it is used to having, then coupling it with a much better offense gives the team a chance to win 9-10. Doesn't mean it'll happen, or that I think it will, but it's for sure doable. They were in plenty of games they lost last year... but on the flipside, they were in plenty of games they lost last year.

I would say flour is a very northern Mexico thing if that. If you walk in the markets, even in the border towns like Nuevo Progresso/Los Flores, the tortilla shops sell corn. Some of the restaurants might offer flour for we Norte Americanos who go over for a few drinks and a meal.
And anyone who wants to warn up tortillas should invest in one of these. Just keep it seasoned.
Yes, those are a must have. One stays on our stove at home unless it goes directly into the oven to make room on top.
As for the flour vs. corn argument, the region of "Northern" Mexico that Texas borders is extremely corn. You can find flour, and it's not just for the gringos, but mostly what you're going to see is corn. Now if you're out Sonora way, they're more of a flour tortilla region, as they've been doing wheat for probably four or so centuries. And seeing as that's where the carne asada taco is widely credited as originating from, it'd probably be more traditional to eat your carne asada on flour vs. corn.
There is another region I've heard of that uses a lot of flour, but I cannot remember it. But of course, most of Mexico is corn.
My solution: buy the Mixla tortillas at HEB.

Just bought one to smoke with a brisket Monday so I figured I’d bump this. I see a lot of recipes online call for cubing it before you smoke? To me smoking it whole makes more sense.
First time I saw the "cubed before smoked" method I thought the same, makes the most sense that you'd have a better chance of it not drying out etc... but honestly, there's so much fat in a pork belly you really don't need to worry about it. Plus, it's a way for all of us bark-whores to get full bark coverage.
BUTTTT... if I'm being honest, I do mine in strips, then cube for the sauce sauna.

I concede your point but Dallas and DFW are not the same thing. If you look at a list of cities by population Dallas is listed and so is Fort Worth and both are smaller than San Antonio by population. So yeah bigger than Dallas.
It just seems strange to not have one for SA but I don't care beyond the initial ask. The thread is fine for me.
Technically they're not the same thing, but they're widely considered as a package deal, making up the majority of Oklahoma's nutsack. Forth Worth obviously the cooler testicle.

We did Quince and Chalk Bluff this week. The improvements at Quince are amazing. Yes they charge now, but if it means less trash and future bathrooms, I'm all in. Water a lite low (obviously) but still flowing. Chalk Bluff is $15 per person but has a rope swing and all the modest volume conjunto you could ask for.
We were gunna do Quince (have never done it) but we had decent enough swimming in front of the property we rented.
