Some aggy on reddit was saying that maybe it's because they want to keep them more "mysterious" to recruits who will then naturally be intrigued by the exclusivity.

Like an invite only speakeasy hidden behind a laundromat I guess

You could tell he was REALLY struggling with why his school was so silent on NIL while simultaneously leading the country in NIL.

"Go through the secret door at the Dixie Chicken and the yell leader from like 30 years ago will give you a hand job. That's it. That's the NIL."

That's why they're keeping it quiet, which -tbh- is some astonishing self-awareness form that bunch.

  2. Have always enjoyed the idea of a micro skiff. Probably not crossing the bay on a rough chop, but perfect for stalking the flats and running protected. Granted, I don't fly fish (yet), but I'd roll along with a trolling motor casting as I went.

Something like this, or a bit bigger, even (though they actually do have smaller). spacer.png

  3. So went with a Penn Wrath 2500. Would have liked to get him something maybe a little better but wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it to a good store before tomorrow AM. It actually has a type of rubber or silicone band on the spool that I'm guessing is meant to be used with braid, to eliminate the slippage. Cool.

Had a nice Penn rod there, but the color didn't really match, which isn't a huge deal, but the reel has that obvious baby blue color on black, so I found the closest rod to that color, checked the guides and spine, and that was it. He'll love it.

    Thanks for the input.

Why worry so much about Gullette.

He can't play next year, right?
So... even if we lose the race this year, we have a whole next year to flip him before he ever plays a snap.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think we're already pretty much locked into at least a top ~15 class even if we don't sign anyone else this year???
That's pretty damn good for a second year coach coming off a 5-7 first year record.

You're gunna get murdered for this, and I guess I kinda get it, but I think I've detected your overall sentiment and agree with it for the most part.

Coming off of 5-7 with that defensive showing and the poor recruiting on defense up top, that's not a great recipe for recruiting success. Luckily some great people (a lot of them on here) have done beyond a fantastic job with the NIL stuff, and continue to, or I'd hate to see what last year and this year's classes would look like. So all of that to say, "flipping" guys who are verbals elsewhere, or who ultimately sign elsewhere who are wanting to transfer after a year, CAN be things to consider IFFFFF Sark can pull off a decent enough bounce-back season. That type of season coupled with having a guy like Arch coming and one of the best NILs in the country, and we can flip guys we might lose out on the first go around.

Now if you seriously doubt the possibility of a bounce-back season that recruits would be satisfied with, especially when held up to whatever aggy ends up doing, then of course it's more important to win those recruitments NOW and stay on top of them, so then everything I said prior to this paragraph can be crumbled up and shoved up my ass as far as you're concerned. Whatever

The spinning reel is my go to for throwing a popping cork.  I have tried to throw the cork with a bait caster,  but being in a kayak, half drunk, and fighting the wind and the wonky cork set up was always too frustrating.  I obviously don't need any kind of flouro for the connection, so I just tie the braid straight to a quick connect and clip on the cork set up...but I digress.  A spinning reel in the $30-$50 range is just fine for him as a present at this age.  I have a couple in that price range that have served me well so I can spend my money on my top water bait casters.  I back the spinners with mono connected with an Alberto knot. 12lb mono to 20lb braid with 6-8 twists.  Much better than mono.

No doubt on the popping cork thing. I don't throw 'em, but The Boy's always asking about them. Have seen many who have no problem throwing a baitcaster launch a popping cork an immediately *expletive* lol. One of the applications where a spinning setup shines.

I use braid to flouro on my spinning reels. I like it and they don't tangle for me. I think 10 is a good age for braid.

My son at 6 spent so much time playing around the house with his spinning reel that I had to refill it about once a month for a while. So, I used 8# trilene big game.

Appreciate the reply. I go braid to flouro leader on my baitcasters already, and that's the plan for the spinning.

Another question I just thought of: do you back up the braid with anything? A layer of mono, or maybe electrical tape?

    Thanks

Putting in my Gullette prediction right now:

If we get him, people will complain that he’s overrated, his film is unimpressive, and he’s injured.  Coaches should have worked harder for someone else.

If we don’t get him, people will complain that the coaches are lazy on the recruiting trail and have no plan at edge.

Don't think you've been reading the room correctly on the "if we get him" prediction. I can see the latter, I guess.

  8. Have a question about spinning reels maybe someone here can answer.

I fish inshore and use baitcasters exclusively, but am looking to get my son a (better) spinning reel for his birthday (will be 10). He can throw the baitcasters a little bit, but it's for sure less frustrating for him to throw a spinning, especially since he's throwing lures more these days. My question is about braid vs. mono. I use braid on all of my casters, but he has mono on the spinning reel he's been using and it just tangles up WAY too much. I've read that braid might tangle less on a spinning vs mono, but wanted to see if any of you guys had any personal experience with that?

Meanwhile, recruits are wearing hoodies on campus when it's 105.

Don't get me started on this shit. I look at my son with disgust when he pulls that shit. He's only almost 10, so hopefully his generation grows out of it.

Anyway, screw the Baxter news. Sounds like Georgia may try to make a push, but doesn't mean he's stumbling...fingerscrossedandshit
