  1. Maybe this was obvious to the rest of you, but I just saw that the announcement from the team claimed he would be stepping back to finish 'final development and delivery' of the RB17 hypercar.

May be bullshit, but, if true, may be a way for RB to keep him "on contract" for a little longer, to prevent another team getting him?

  2. A few thoughts...

    - I'd say Jos is 'predominantly' to blame for this.

    - I bet Max will start seriously looking around

    - Newey is a fucking magician, and Red Bull will take a big hit in '26, and some other team will take a big leap forward

    - I would love it if Newey went to Andretti!

4,996 in about 3 weeks in a brand new Jetta from Enterprise. Was taking my daughter to visit universities on the East Coast. Suit cases in the back seat, camping gear in the trunk. As I am about the leave the clerk says "treat her well, she is brand new to us." "Sir, " I replied, "I am going to beat the shit out of this car."

Loved driving that car for sure, no wrecks, but damn it stunk like snack food and feet when we dropped it off.

A phrase I heard long back: "What 2 things can drive anywhere?  An M1 Abrams and a rental car."

In other news, man, Aston Martin should have put Fernando back on medium tires during that SC, but his run on mediums at the end was absolutely epic and almost covered that mistake. He was a rocket, and the save on the front straight ... just wow.  Should have been a Code Brown moment, but Fernando didn’t miss a beat. Immediately pressed the DRS button and got after Lewis.

It's easy to forget that these are (arguably) the 20 best drivers in the world...well, 19 if you rightfully remove Stroll.  Their reactions are often unbelievable, but that catch was just insane.  I'm sure the data is there on the internet somewhere, but he was probably >100mph when it stepped out?

Ok, I know this is a dumb question.  And I know the answer is "because aggy"...  But what exactly is it, that they believe we have done *to them*?  Other than things in our own best interest, not specific to them, which all schools are (or should be) doing?

    Spoiler

The one where he finally accepted that he needed to be the messiah, and informed all the Fremen that he was stepping up.  "Your mothers warned you about my coming..."  Found a link for part of it at least:

They offered me that shit during my consultation, they called it "Monovision". I said fuck that noise.

My surgery is tomorrow and I can't lie, I'm a tad nervous. I wound up getting the valium and I'm gonna take it.

I know this post is a bit far back, but just wanted to offer my 2 cents on this, after having elected to do "monovision" 4 years back: don't fucking do it.

90% of the time, your brain adjusts, and you don't even notice.  but the other 10% is bullshit.

    - do you shoot?  Make sure your 'near' eye is the one you use for the sight, and the 'far' eye is the one you use to look downrange.  If you get it backwards, it sucks.

    - do you drive?  If you have a cup of water or coffee and take a swig, make sure you aren't covering up the 'far' eye, or the whole outside world goes blurry.  And you may need to turn your head completely to make sure your 'near' eye can focus on anything you want to see clearly on the dashboard.

    - roll over in the morning to glance at the clock to see the time?  better hope your 'near' eye is not in the pillow or you won't see shit.

    - Watching something in unbalanced lighting (like, say, a lamp to one side of the sitting area while watching TV)?  Be prepared for one eye to take over based on lighting, overriding whichever eye you actually need to use for watching.

All of these are blatantly obvious when spelled out...and perfectly logical looking back.  But all I heard before was "your brain will adjust" - and it does...for most situations.  Do not recommend.

4 hour erection for Ferrari fans.

    Ferrari: summary of information from
    @formu1a__uno
    via live Twitch:

    - Ferrari was the car that presented the best on Friday which means that the preparation work carried out in Maranello before the race weekends is the benchmark of the paddock. This is not the first time this has happened. It's a real trend. In the paddock, they say that if it was a sprint weekend, no one would have caught Sainz and Leclerc.

    - Ferrari's victory in Melbourne was a signal. The first important signal was in Jeddah during the last stint where Leclerc and Verstappen had the same racing pace. There, we understood a first important piece of data on which Ferrari can build.

    - According to
    @GiulyDuchessa
, Ferrari will still bring something new to the SF-24 in Japan. Little new things. At Imola, it will be the start of the important new package on the SF-24. The car has a healthy base to be able to push on development. The most visible changes at Imola are on the tighter sidepods but also the air intakes. There will also be a new floor. At Ferrari, they consider the Imola package a bit like a more extreme “new car”.

    - Compared to last year, there is no longer a favorable or unfavorable track for the SF-24. It's a car with a lot of aerodynamic load, somewhat similar to RB in the sense that the SF-24 has no major flaws. It's easy to take to the limit, easy to adjust and it goes well on several different turns. What is still a little lacking on the SF-24 is the peak performance in very fast corners but it is slight. It's a car with a lot of balance. Bearman also demonstrated that the SF-24 is easy. It gives a lot more confidence to the pilots.

    - Where Ferrari must unlock performance is the behavior on new rubber. In fact, the SF-24 is already a competitive car on race pace, balanced, handles the different tires well. When Ferrari uses the new rubber, it performs well but it does not yet have this performance peak like the RB which seems a little more competitive on the new rubber.

    - Problem heating the tires in Q3? In fact, the car has changed technical characteristics compared to last year, that is to say it is more difficult to put the car in the right window in Q3 with the soft compound. But on the other hand, it goes much faster on Sunday. The team still needs to work on this aspect for qualifying, but the car goes much faster on Sunday than on Saturday. It's more of a strength for the race than for qualifying. But the team still managed to maintain a decent level in qualifying.

I know this isn't exactly a 'hot take', but it seems a bit premature to declare "Ferrari is back!" when Max was driving on 3 wheels and was out of the race in 3 laps.  I like Checo, but comparing a team result to Checo just isn't the same as comparing to Max.

Re: Williams, the important bit of this imho is that they showed up to the 3rd race of the season without a spare chassis. How in the actual fuck does that happen in an F1 that's rejecting Andretti on the grounds that they aren't a serious enough entry?

Me three. Jim McKay was the face of F1, and the only race we got to see (portions of) was Monaco. I guess we're showing our age ...

    Blame Microsoft...lol

Don't see confirmation, but damn this would be interesting.

Jose Mourinho could be set for a sensational return to Chelsea as a report claims Mauricio Pochettino is facing the sack next week.

The Blues have been poor for most of the season with Pochettino’s men currently 11th in the Premier League table – one place higher than they finished last term – with 12 matches to play.

Shit, I hate how this season is going, but damn it would be nice to get some consistency in leadership... :/

Do we have any geologists around here that can discuss how deep (on average) he will need to go & then the soil / dirt / whatever changes to something softer or possibly even more difficult than what is currently being encountered?

Use these online tools to find the nearest well and check out their report:

    https://www3.twdb.texas.gov/apps/WaterDataInteractive/GroundwaterDataViewer/?map=sdr

Here's a sample near San Angelo (I think that's where @CleverNickname is digging).  Anyway, page 2 details the soil & depths they encountered during the drill:
